If you are a fan of the first generation KLX300R this machine will not disappoint. I am a big fan of the bike and set out to build a no expense spared dual sport version. The end result is one very thoughtfully customized and unique KLX that is fantastic off road yet fully street compliant with VT title. This was an extensive build process that started with a very low time bike in excellent condition. I am including a link to a short write up I did about the build on the Adventure Rider Website that also includes some photos of the process. http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/klx300-thread.357320/page-41#post-31275357 I suggest checking out the original build photos at the link above, there is also a list of almost all aftermarket parts and modifications added to the bike there. Everything added to the bike was researched, chosen, and completed by me, so any questions are welcome. All the photos of the bike here in this listing were taken on 9/3/21. The bike has been washed after every off road ride and maintained routinely. The bike has 1,825 miles and 86 hours since the conversion build. (Estimate of 10 hours or less prior to build). Brand new front and rear tires included with purchase. Bike is 100% ready to ride and take anywhere. All receipts have been kept, and there are a number of like new stock components that could be negotiable with the sale. I recognize this is bike will only be of interest to a limited number of people. There are a lot of details to cover about this machine and I will happily discuss them with a seriously interested party. Asking $5800 I am only parting with this bike to help fund a real estate purchase. If the ad is up it is still available. I have a busy schedule and may not immediately respond to inquiries. Best way to contact me is call or text: 8six0 4eight1 3six3seven Location is 01550 Massachusetts. Aftermarket Parts Installed: (Updated to current) Pro Taper EVO (RM High) bars. Cut and modified anchor location of Works Connection left side frame guard to permit easier removal and more precise fit. Cut out the top of air box cover and installed a screen and layer of water resistant Outerwear pre- filter material to allow better breathing without sacrificing filter life. Oil breather opened up, but still vented within airbox. Carb vent lines T-valved down and up under the seat for water crossings. Added a quick removal velcro & strap fastened small rear fender pack. Filed frame stop and kickstand to provide more ground clearance when up. Rear subframe tubes trimmed for esthetics.

  2. Installed a 3.2 gallon black IMS tank on my 2018 500 EXC-F. I never liked the off white stock tank, it looks dingy next to the pure white side panels, & I don't need to see my fuel level when I can go by the miles on my trip meter. I chose IMF over Acerbis because it was 3.2 gallons VS 3 gallons for the Acerbis, & the IMF has brass inserts for the bolts where the Acerbis uses wood screws into the plastic. I got it mainly to comfortably break the 100 mile range, I was filling up at 80 - 90 miles with the stock tank, but after installing it, I love the color much more than stock, so I would have changed it just for the color!
  3. Hello all, There's been a lot of talk about how to register a dirt bike in states that don't allow it. I just moved to North Carolina and for the first time in my life might be able to afford a bike. I've been dreaming about an XR650R for a long time, but they're not cheap. Plated bikes seem to be more expensive too. So here's my question, has anyone tried to plate a dirt bike by adding all the necessary features and having it inspected as a custom bike? Anyone know of another way I can plate an xr650 in NC? Thanks
  4. Hey guys, I currently ride a WR450F that is not street legal and would like to pick up a dual sport to make things a little more flexible for me when I travel to Southern UT to visit family. I dont really want to make my current bike street legal and just figured it'd be fun to have a dual sport to dink around on when I am visiting family. I dont think I am very interested in the DRZ mainly because I don't think it'd get a ton of use and don't feel like spending that much for something that I am not too sure will see much use. Wondering what your thoughts are on advantages of the CRF250L vs WR250R vs KLX250 are and anything you think I should consider when looking at these models. I think the only challenge that the KLX has is that there arent a whole lot of aftermarket options for the 2018 model yet, but I am sure those will come soon enough. Thoughts?
  5. Anyone have any unbiased opinion if they were buying a new dual sport. Would you go with the new Honda CRF450L or the Beta 430rrs? Why
  6. What are the best used Dual Sport models to convert into a scrambler style? Looking for 400-650cc, decent Highway Speed (cruise around 65-70 mph), Low Maintance, good MPG, can handle long distance rides (150 mile day ride), Very Good on fire roads, decent single track, can handle occasional sand and rocks no problem, lighter weight, Currently deciding between: drz400 and 650, KLR650, XR400R 600R and 650R,
  7. I am in the market for a new dual sport and I’ve narrowed down my search to either a KTM 350 EXC-F or a CRF450RL. I realize the 500 KTM is closer to what the Honda is and I am keeping my options open. I like the idea of the lightest most nimble bike for single track, hence the 350 (my last dirt bike was a 125 2T) But I also like the idea of Honda reliability and better road manners, hence the 450L. My typical ride would be out my garage, ride 14 miles of pavement backroads to tight single track in the PNW. I guess my question is if the 350 would be ok for longer trips down the road if I felt the desire, or if the 450L would be too much of a pig in tight single track? What is your skill Level (be honest)? Intermediate 2. What's your height & weight? 5’10” 170 3. What year, make, & model of motorcycle are you coming from? And, what do you want the new bike to do better? 01 XR250R 01 RM125 03 SV650 4. What's your ballpark budget? New KTM prices 5. What types of terrain will you be riding? pavement/single track 6. Will you be racing or just play riding? no racing
  8. I Was considering a tail tidy type of kit. But also, I've seen other folx who have basically chopped the section below the license plate off on the stock unit. I've yet to see any1 go into detail or post pics specific to this, so if you've done it.. could u post a pic / link? Im curious how it actually looks , and the different methods used. Also , did you have to remove the fender to do it? If so, seems like i might as well replace it at that point.. lol (to be clear, Ive got no issue with the rear white fender, its just the old black 'ImADualSport' fender that hangs way down ) Also, If i do go the 'fender-eliminator' route, I'm wanna reuse the stock turn signals.. ( i prefer the bike to be seen as much as possible..those integrated tail/turn signal units just look too hidden) thx!
  9. Hey All, Just got my Tusk enduro lighting kit and realized it didn't include a battery. The 300XC doesn't come with battery, headlight, etc. So I figured I may just bite the bullet and draw stator power to run a battery for the kit. Fairly certain is pushes about 100W factory. I have an iridescant bulb headlight, and everything else is LED. Anyone have experience with this who could lend some advice or know if I'll need a regulator? Thanks. (Will keep post updated with pics)
  10. Just got back from doing the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route with some buddies. Listed as 650 miles we ended with 850 with a few single track detours. I highly recommend it. We had a great time. Racing by all those guys on the giant adventure bikes convinced me that I never want one. We did it on 450's and 500's and it was wonderful. Find out more here... https://ridebdr.com/wabdr/
  11. I just bought a 2018 KTM 500 EXC-F. I love it so far but haven't had a chance to get off road with it. Does anyone have this bike & advice for mods?
  12. Hear Ye, Hear Ye ! August 16th, 2020 Michaux State Forest Shippensburg Pa. The 32 annual Michaux Dual sport is in the planning phases as we speak. Mark your calendars and save the date for the best ride of the year ! Well, it's pretty damn good anyhow. New trails are being planned and marked out, even in the snow and ice ! Talks of bringing back the ADV ride pre event are happening. A new location/venue is also being sought out to relieve the pressures of fitting everyone into the Big Flats parking area ! This change will allow us to have Campers, motorhomes and large trailers come back and be right in the heart of the event. A larger area for vendors and food. More room to spread out all your crap ! This is however still an IF right now, nothing definite as of this moment. https://www.facebook.com/events/534615570597821/
  13. I would like to offer my services to anyone who would like a chase drive to help them on their dual sport rides. I have lived and rode all over the Northwest. If you are planing a ride and could use some "local" help moving gear, showing you the routes or just someone to help you get organized please contact me. I live near Boise Idaho. This summer I will be riding across Idaho to Montana on dirt and gravel roads on my dual sport bike.
  14. I was wondering how would I go about converting a KLR650's single exhaust tip into dual twin tips for under 200$ (example picture below). Is there a pre made system already made?, are there converters and other pipes pieces I can put together to build it?, or is something I have create entirely on my own by cutting and bending pipes? thanks
  15. Hi guys/gals just thought about starting this thread on my 2015 Yamaha XTZ 125 I know it is directly related to the TTR 125 & the XT 125. The cool thing is that the frame and the engine is completely the same to the ttr but almost everything is different. I've had this bike for almost 3yrs now and was my first bike ( I used to Drag race scooters & mopeds )and am planning on doing a build series (somewhat) on a budget and some mechanical skills i hope you guys like it and be with me on this journey if you guys have any questions just shoot Enjoy ? P.S. im trying to start a youtube channel i know im a little late to the game and just another Motorcycle related channel hope i get support from you guys Thanks to all of you have a nice day. *BTW I dream someday of having a Suzuki DRZ 400 SM
  16. Reposted from the adventure/dual sport forum: I have seen other posts around Thumper Talk about where to ride off road in the South Florida area, especially the east coast which includes Palm Beach, Broward and Dade county. If you have a platted bike you can ride in the J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area. I have been out in Corbett many times and there is a lot of land to ride. Now is the time of year since the rainy season is gone and the waters levels have dropped. Expect to get wet regardless because it is a damn swamp. Read the brochures and check out the map. http://myfwc.com/media/4436873/Corbett.pdf http://myfwc.com/media/4436904/Corbett-Map.pdf
  17. Whats up ThumperTalk, I'm currently in Stuttgart, Germany and want to see if there are any other dual sport riders in the area. I know they have some MX action here but it's few and far between to see dual sports on the road. Just seeing if there are any fellow riders already in a group or we can get one going. Cheers!
  18. Hi all! This is my first ever Thumper post. I searched around on the forums and couldn't find anything to answer my question, maybe because i don't know how to navigate forums as well as i should, but here I am hahah. I recently bought a 2007 Xr650l and was going to change up the gear ration on it. The original has a 14T front sprocket and a 45T Rear sprocket. I switched out the front for a 14T Fritzco sprocket and I picked up a 48T Sunstar rear sprocket. I switched out the front sprocket no problem, but when i got to taking the rear sprocket off I ran into a bit of a problem. One of the bolts seized up and I couldn't get it undone. I had been using a number 6 allen key for the allen bolts, I'm pretty sure on the size but don't quote me, all I know is that it fit, and a 17mm box wrench for the bolt because I didn't have a low enough profile socket to fit back there. That's when I started to kind of ask questions. I just looked in the manual and it says that i need a torque wrench adapter for whenever I re-tighten the bolts, and since the 17mm wrench worked i assumed that the adapter would be a 3/8 adapter to a 17mm socket size. Well, when I looked up the part number in my manual it keeps showing me a 3/8 torque wrench adapter that reaches size 12mm and 14mm sockets.... where is the size 17mm adapter for the bolts on my bike????? I don't need to know how to un-seize the stuck bolt, I guess my question is why does my XR650l have a 17mm bolt when the manual is telling me to use a 12mm/14mm adapter for when I re-torque it... Thanks for any answers.
  19. So guys this is my first time having an account on TT. I've used the forum a lot before to answer questions that were already asked but I've never asked one of my own. I just got a killer deal on an 03 klx400r, a storage unit special, no scratches anywhere on the bike, no play in anything, even the original tires that the bike came with in 2003 and they still have the little rubber nipples on them, dry rotted an all. It's like the bike was in a time capsule. So I've been riding it since I've purchased it and giving her a proper break in. I got the tusk enduro lighting kit to convert her over to the street and that's bolted up perfectly. Went down to the DMV and after some haggling I now have a street legal 400r. My question today for the 19 years of knowledge about these bikes on this forum is, before I start putting some serious time on the bike using it as a dual sport, what are all the fixes for my green drz400e? After doing some research, I know that a MCCT is one, the fuel petcock, loctite the stator and starter clutch bolts, some case savers, I think that washer/seal behind the counter sprocket so all the oil doesn't come out ?, and there's another washer/seal in the water pump that goes bad too. Am I missing anything to get this motor and bike as bullet proof as possible for the road/trail? Thanks for your replies guys!
  20. So I stumbled upon a clean Honda XL250 on Facebook and I asked if it was registered... the pic is his response. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to get it registered as a dual sport? Or if it's even worth it to try. I know California is pretty strict with Dual Sports. Sorry if this is in the wrong category. Thanks.
  21. I have a 2007 WR250F that I'd like to make street legal in North Carolina. I have a few questions: Has anybody else used a WR250F as a dual sport? If so how is the reliability and should I be okay with highway usage? I'd imagine the motor could handle it but maybe a bit shakey... Does anybody know how strict the DMV will be on registering my bike? It already has a headlight and tail light but it does not have a high beam and low beam switch, and I don't know if I have to replace the tailight or if I need blinkers. And obviously I will need a side mirror, horn, and key ignition. Not to mention I need DOT approved tires. I love this bike and have taken it on several trails accross the country and have done some street riding on ATV approved roads but I have had minor problems where they require a registered vehicle. If anybody has been through this process before I'd appreciate some advice or information, or if this is even worth it because of the cost just to register it.
  22. I have a 2018 KTM 500 EXC-F & I absolutely love the bike, but hated the location of the ignition switch. It is down low behind the headlight shroud & under the front brake line, so every time I put the key in I had to pull the brake line out of the way. The turn signal indicator was also way down low behind the headlight shroud & hard to see. I was looking at You Tube videos for my bike & came across one that mentioned https://www.highwaydirtbikes.com/. They sell parts to relocate your instruments & switches to the top of the handlebars. They have several different options for many bikes so you can fully customize your dash. These are the parts I used - Speedometer/Instrument cup https://www.highwaydirtbikes.com/index.php?app=ecom&ns=prodshow&ref=BM-504 Ignition Switch/Turn Indicator plate https://www.highwaydirtbikes.com/index.php?app=ecom&ns=prodshow&ref=TC-300 Handlebar Clamp (90 X 38/40mm) https://www.highwaydirtbikes.com/index.php?app=ecom&ns=prodshow&ref=TC-200 I love the new setup! It's so much easier to operate the ignition switch & much easier to see the speedometer & turn indicator! I've included pictures of the stock setup so you can see how far down the turn indicator & ignition switch was.
  23. *Cross posted from TTR Forum Hi guys/gals just thought about starting this thread on my 2015 Yamaha XTZ 125 I know it is directly related to the TTR 125 & the XT 125. 24. Hey guys, I decided to start a build for my page for my 2018 Husqvarna FE 501. Enjoy!
  25. I installed a larger tank on my 2018 500 EXC-F today & took the opportunity to pull my plug & check it. I've read lots of 2 stroke plugs, but this is my 1st 4 stroke to look at, so looking for expert opinions on lean/rich tuning. I have a ProMoto Billet end cap, pulled the reeds, Desmog, & JD Jetting Tuner tweaked for optimum performance. Thanks for your help!
