  3. My dad has a 2002 or a 2005 Kawasaki 650 that sputters when you give it gas. (Sorry can't remember the year) Sometimes it will run fine (only for a few minutes) and sometimes right away once you start it and give it gas it'll lag and sputter when you roll the throttle. It starts right up but for some reason this problem keeps happening and it's preventing me and my dad from riding. He's nearly 60 years old and I want to help him fix it so we can get some more rides in together. He's been messing around with the gas line and one of the air tubes from he carb. He was showing me that the main gas line had a bubble in it so it wasn't getting gas but I'm thinking it might be something with the carb. What do you guys think? Any ideas would be a huge help for us so we can get back to riding.
  4. Hello, I wanted to reach out to see if anyone is having the same problem as me. I have a 2018 KTM 300 XC-W, last of the carbureted. JD jet kit, everything else is stock. I have owned it for about a year now and have been battling this issue the entire way. The problem is my fuel consumption. This bike drinks fuel! I get about 35 miles to a tank! When I first bought the bike it didn’t run correctly, after a long investigation I found the problem to be either a bad float needle or a bad o ring down in the float needle seat. So those have been replaced in the last 8 months. Also I replaced the float during that time. I bought a JD jet kit in an attempt to solve the fuel guzzling issue but have been unsuccessful. I have tried a two different jet settings and have had same results. First I ran the recommended setting for my elevation 0-4000ft and found it to run a little to rich. Now I have it jetted to the next leanest recommended setting. 2000-7000ft. It seems to run a little better but still guzzles fuel. I have seen many threads on here about this issue and I have done the bowl vent loop trick months ago in attempts to solve the problem but have had no luck. Also on that note I don’t notice any fuel leaking out of the bowl vent tube while riding. I know there are quite a few threads already started about this but I have tried everything I have read and have had no success. Is there anyone out there who is having the same issue or might have any other suggestions to try? I have never adjusted the float setting before. Could that be the issue? Thanks for any help in advance. Greatly appreciated.
  5. Anyone know how I can install a headlight on my ttr 125, it is only kickstart?
  6. So I have a 2003 Drz400s with a full fmf power core 4 exhaust. I was riding the other day and I realized it was running a little rough and the gas seemed to be getting low so I swung by the gas station and got my usual 93. Was riding for about 5 mins and the bike started running even rougher and began backfiring quite a bit and eventually shut off. I started it up rode another quarter mile and it backfired even more before shutting off and not being able to start again. Took it home and began researching, I figured the jets were clogged so I tore it apart and realized that it was not ever jetted and did not have 3x3 mod so I bought the JD jet kit and did the air box mod. It has a uni air filter by the way. Put everything back together after putting in new jet kit (160 mj, 25 pilot, 4th clip blue needle 2.5 turns out) and replaced the spark plug which was needed. Went to start it up and it starts and idles for a few seconds but anytime I try to give it gas it dies AND anytime I try to start it with the choke ON it will not start, it only starts with the choke off, I messed with fuel screw trying to adjust it and I got it to a pretty good idle but still every time I touch the gas it sometimes backfires a little then dies. Could it be bad gas, fuel line or what? I can smell fuel every time I start it but it just doesn’t seem like it’s getting any when I go to give it throttle. Any Help or advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  7. Looking for riders to ride with in Wilmington NC Also looking for riders who want to visit SC Trail Riding Parks
  8. I just recently discovered the Trans-American-Trail, and I plan on tackling the western side, from New Mexico to the Pacific Ocean. The time frame will be around the end of May, or early June. I have a DRZ400S that I’m currently outfitting with panniers, and a bigger tank to get ready for it. I’ll be going by myself but thought I would see if anyone else would want to join. I just moved to New Mexico from Florida, and don’t know anyone that rides out here in the west. I plan on mostly camping throughout the trip. I’m relatively new to dual-sport riding, but I grew up riding ATVs dirt bikes, SXSs etc, so I’m not a total noob. I’m also open to any suggestions or tips from anyone that has done the trip(or anything similar). I’ve watched quite a few vlogs, but you never can have too much info.
  9. Hey guys and gals. I was reading the specs on the new crf450l today and was bitterly dissapointing in the numbers I read. The official honda number claim a meger 25 hp and 23 ft/lbs torque. I currently have a 15 wr250r with a full pipe , prorammer and air box opened up a bit. Yamaha claims 28 hp and 17 torque on the WR in stock for. Am I missing something here. Like WTF HONDA. I was super stoked when I saw the post about this bike a few days ago but based on the numbers o really can' see it out performing my wr, at least in the engine department. I love my wr. I can ride the hell out it and works great in some pretty Nasty terrain but I would sure like at least another 5 or ten horse. Anybody got any input on this? Thanks
  10. So this has been an abnoxious one, I bought this bike about 8 months ago and it has always run perfectly, about a month and a half ago I installed the IMS 4 gallon tank and tusk billet cap and it has continued to run perfectly until less than a week ago. Now it will start to starve for fuel every 5 min or so unless I loosen the cap to relieve tank pressure. It seems to do fine if I driving backroads at a sub 30mph pace, but if I get on the highway it quickly build pressure and cuts out. The tank has always built pressure when I was riding, and hissed viciously when i refueled but had no fuel delivery issues until less than a week ago, I could nearly drain the tank without opening it, and it would never cut out. Could the vacuum assisted petcock have possibly worn out? Is it normal for the tank to build pressure? I was under the impression that the fuel cap would relieve all pressure. So far I have checked the vacuum line over and over, taken apart the tusk fuel cap and blasted the parts with hot water, removed fuel filter, then installed it again when I noticed no difference. The bike noticeably regains power while I'm driving and I loosen the cap.
  11. Hi there! I recently bought an 86 xt350. It ran on full choke. I went about cleaning the carbs on it and the secondary carb had the main jet stripped out. So I tried an impact driver, and cracked the carb body. Turns out it's kinda hard to find a replacement. I have 3 questions. 1. Would anyone like to sell me a secondary carb for xt350 2. Has anybody tried a secondary carb delete. If so how did you go about accomplishing it and what size carb did you use. 3. Does another carb fit in its place. The xt600 appears to have similar carb set up Thanks for any help/advice given ?
  12. Hi Thump masters I’m the fng. I’ve only ridden a few bikes recently but one toe on the ground when at a stop is messin with my head. I need to get more of at least one foot on the ground when I stop. I’m 5’6” and am wondering how much drop links will lower a seat. My research is taking me to the Yamaha xt 250 for over all dual sport with a 31.5” seat height stock. Most other dual sport bikes are higher. I haven’t bought anything yet but am ready. Tell me what you know. Thanks , Mike
  13. I have a 1996 Yamaha xt350, which I was wondering if it is possible and how difficult it would be to swap a Yamaha R3 engine into my Xt. I want to do this because the bike is slow and I go on the road more even though buying a new bigger bike is definitely a better idea.
  14. Purchased the 2021 KLX 300 SM last week primarily for my wife to learn to ride and decided to buy some dual sport tires to hit some trails running thru powerlines in back of my neighborhood. Tires are Shinko 705s in 120-70/r17 & 150-70/r17. I hit some real muddy/wet parts and it performed nice, does require more caution to not drop as the rear starts to walk in mud. Definetly not like my kx450 but super impressed how it handles nonetheless. On road I hit 70mph+ no problem and no vibration or anything. Recommend it 10/10 if you like to do some offroading.
  15. Hey there everyone, I’m new to dual sport, looking at getting a used bike for around $3k and would like to mainly do trail riding/ exploring and also be able to ride the highway to the trails. Might even mess around and hit a Mx track with it for fun (I know dual sports aren’t great for that). I’ve been considering a drz400 until I saw a ktm for sale on Craigslist. It’s an 04 450 exc as you saw in the title. What are your thoughts?
  16. Hello everyone, my names is Nicco and it's my first time on thumper talk. Now my question is are there any good dirtbike like Suzuki rmz 450 or Honda crf 450 that have low maintenance and good power? I really wanted to buy a drz but I had a 125 4stroke and it was heavy so I can only image how does it feel with a drz I basically have a trip to do this September 700 k on the go and back and if I needed to do the maintenance once for the trip I was going to accept that but I'm pretty sure that any dirtbike will have damage for doing tha
  17. Hey TT crowd; very happy to announce I've joined the DR family! Absolutely love the bike and have a few questions I've not been able to answer from a quick stroll around the forums via the search function. I also own a 2008 honda XR650L but it has seen it's last days after I split the crank case and unknowingly dumped the oil off-road and seized the engine on the way home...:( SHAME! Anyway, I was curious as to if I could move the front forks from the XR over to the DR. It's aftermarket from Traxxion Dynamics and I'd hate to have to part them out. I have a Jet kit, powercore 4 exhaust, K&N air filter, and Shinko 700's on the way. Looking forward to ripping up the Dirt here in N Georgia!
  18. I've been riding dirtbikes my entire life on some pretty tough and varying terrain here in the mountains and desert enough so that I consider myself to be an advanced rider. I have always been on the smaller side and right now I'm about 5' 7" 18 years old and I an riding the same little ttr 230 I've had since i was 13. The bike has never let me down and the low end grunt has got me through every trail I've ridden on just fine but the beginner nature of the bike has always put me off a bit. I have been thinking about getting another bike for a few years now but the simple hassle of buying and selling bikes has put me off. I will be entering college in the coming fall and was hoping to get a performance based dual sport for commuting around town along with plenty of dirt capability. I've heard that the bulletproof low-maintenance engine of the ttr makes it ok for road conversion but the lack of performance and power is making me think about simply finally selling and buying either a dual sport or a larger 4 stroke dortbike. The main bikes I've been looking at so far have been the wr250r, wr250f, xr250r, drz400, klx250 and to a extent the crf250l.
  19. Hey everyone so my uncle and I bought a 2003 WR450f converted dual sport bike about a month ago as a project bike. We are having a problem getting it to start on its own. It only starts when we used quick start and then only runs for a couple seconds 1 min at the longest. We have cleaned carb and jets even tried replacing carb we put in a new battery, new spark plug, new ignition coil, new cdi still same problem. I don't know what else to do. If anyone has any ideas we appreciate.

  21. Hi everyone! I have recently done a lot thinking about what my first bike would be and the bike that has been on top of my mind has been the Sherco 300 4 stroke! How do you guys think this bike can handle normal roads/highways? Can it like cruise at 65 mph without a problem? I have almost seen none top speeds or anything like that on this bike 😕 Obviously it will do good on offroad, only concern is on road! If its not good, then i will get the Ktm 350 exc or Husqvarna Fe 350. Thx if someone could answer
  22. plan on riding 80% dirt 20% street. A few 300 mile touring rides a year. Which would yall choose?
  23. I have cleaned the carburetor, replaced ignition coil, replaced spark plug, drained fuel and put in fresh, installed new intake manifold, installed fuel filter, cleaned tank, changed and oiled air filter, changed battery, adjusted air/fuel ratios and more I'm sure I'm forgetting. But my 1994 DR350 continues to idle extremely rough and most of the time it will only stay running if in full choke. I could keep buying kits and parts but I'm very interested in simply replacing the carb completely as it seems someone has messed with it before. The ones online are insanely expensive, so if someone could offer a decent price for one I would be very grateful. The bike ran perfect when I bought it and I rode it extensively, this issue happened two days after I sold it to my brother, OF COURSE!!! So now I feel guilty and have been working at it for days and nothing is making the slightest difference. Please help, riding season is just starting in my area and I don't want my brother to miss out.
