  1. While looking over my transmission shifts forks, gears, etc., the only thing I saw was some strange pitting on the face of some of the gears (only on 1). What are your thoughts, some kind of material defect? Has around 350 hours on it, and everything else looks good. My buddy says to change it. It looks like it's 3rd Gear 5TJ-17131-20-00

  3. It's getting chilly out and even with the grip heaters on my hands are turning to ice. I've used the Alpinestars Radiant Drystars before which worked pretty good (maybe discontinued?) What do you guys use? Because....
  4. When riding the dizzer the other day, i shifter mid corner into 2nd. The gear change was more firm than other ones, bu it went into gear very fast. The problem is it got stuck in 2nd. I shut the bike off, i dont have an operational clutch switch, so i had no choice but to get a ride home. The gear lever won't even move up, it can move down but i can not get it to stay in neutral. As soon as the pressure is off the lever its back in 2nd. Tried all the roadside techniques like rocking the bike and this amd that and the other thing. The problem is this was my spare mitor from craigslist. I was rebuilding my motor very slowly, waiting on further funds. I love to do things right. I'm debating just taking right hand case cover off to check the shifter assembly, or pulling the engine. One possibly contributing factor is slightly higher than desired clutch drag, like the clutch plates are slightly warped.
  5. 09 ktm sx 85. Doing a bottom end for my first time. What tool can I use or tricks to get the primary pinion off? I have the bolt out already but every video I've seen they just pull the pinion right off the shaft with their hand...

  7. I got a 84 honda xr200 recently. Runs great after carb fixes. In 3rd gear I noticed a sound it didn't make before in that gear or any other. It sounded kind of like a metallic rattle, and stayed fairly consistent despite higher or lower rpms in that gear. No power loss from what I could tell either. I changed to 4th gear and then back down to see if it was still present...it was. I got back home and didn't check anything more. I found a video of what it kind of sounded like but I am going to check tomorrow and get better details. Please give me tips, advice, or any other expertise y'all can share with me. Things to mention. Sat in a covered shed for minimum 3 years. Before carb cleaning it was rich. Tank shows signs of minor interior rust. No fuel filter. Oil level is fine, (didn't change it though) Seafoam has been added to tank with new gas. This thing runs like a beast now...except that sound worried me and I wanna catch a problem before it turns into a bigger problem.
  8. Hey gents! I recently bought a 2006 ktm 525exc, fixed the wiring issues and have registered it. Upon first ride I notice it has blown 4th gear... I can still shift into 5th and 6th without issues. Without splitting my case (I want to order parts first if possible), what do you think is damaged? I.e. if someone else has blown a gear what was your experience? Thanks in advance!
  9. I have a 07 suzuki dr650 and I recently had an issue where I am unable to shift into second gear. It started when It got tipped on the left side going through a mud puddle, when I got it back up and started riding again it would'nt shift into second. when I kick it up it will just go into neutral. If anybody has suggestions to what this might be, please let me know. I got to use this to get to work!
  10. Hey guys, having a problem with my yz125. So I just did the bottom end and got it back together without issues and once back on the bike she fired up in 4 kicks and then I spent about 2 or 3 days getting the carb dialed in and my throttle adjustment just where I want it. I've rode the bike for probably 2 hours at the most. More realistic is 1 maybe 1 1/2 hours. She ran great was taking it easy till I got it broken in and then started riding it a little harder as I go. Now funky shifting bullshit is starting to happen. I'll be in neutral and pop it down into 1st then take off but I can still kick the shift lever down like I'm dropping a gear while rolling in 1st. Nothing happens when I do it but it's not right. Then if I try to go up to 2nd you hit neutral every time and have to pull the clutch lever in 1/3 of the way and then it'll shift into 2nd, then trying for 3rd the lever doesnt move. I can go back down to neutral then to 1st and sometimes it'll jerk forward rhythmically then pull the clutch and it's out of gear if you let go of the clutch. Any help would be appreciated I'm kind of lost here.
  11. Does anyone have any experience putting 6th gear out of an excf450 in an sxf 450 motor. Mine is us spec 5 speed already. Thinking new barrel, shifter fork and gear wheels should do it

  13. Hey guys I'm in a bit of a pickle here... While riding over to the bank last night my trans started slipping and did not want to stick in 5th gear. I tried down shifting to fourth and back up thinking I might have just been under shifting it but nothing was working... Anyways I pull into the bank downshift all the way into what I think is first And she stalls... she won't come out of 2 gears, I can up shift to 5th and there is a neutral in between where I can start the bike but the neutral light does not come on like normal..... anyway I sat there f****** with it for a little bit trying to get it out of its groove but nothing was working. I said to hell with it it was and was able to make it home revving the crap out of it and slipping the clutch... Now my question is what the heck do I need to buy? A whole new tranny? Or just a few gears? Looks like it's time to break open the case and while at it I'm thinking I'll bore it out because at least I'll gain some power out this fat L. If any of you have an idea of what I can expect to replace that'd be great, I'm pretty new to this and like getting my hands dirty but damn I just bought this bike...
