Love the bike. Complete rebuild/restoration ($4000 or so). The 2nd/5th gears and 14R/48 sprockets are great choices. I love the look I've ended up with and couldn't be happier with the ride on and off road. Great bike for me.
  2. So, I have a decent plot of land in a semi enclosed area behind my house. I want to build a small track there for my friends and I to practice on. Is this area going to be big enough? I drew up a plan on google maps. What do you guys think? Can I make this work? Any tips for building berms, tabletops, etc? Thanks, Will
  3. thought i would give it a shot..Honda cr 500, and 450 the photos drag on too long before the hill climb, but the action starts soon enough. This post has been promoted to a wiki
  4. I have a 96 KDX 200. Had new topend, and reeds put in about 10 hours ago. I took is down the road really easy 1 time and ran perfect. Coming back I got on it a little but never full throttle in about 4th gear. All of the sudden I heard a real loud knocking noise. I let it sit there and try to idle but then it just quite. I tried kicking it but it was really rough. I pulled the spark plug out and kicked it about 20 times and all seemed normal. Put the plug back in and it was still really rough. It will try to crank but then quite all of the sudden. So I took it apart and replaced crank and all bottom end bearings also the wristpin bearing. Still doing the same thing. Im tired of chasing the problem and need to get to the bottom of this. Any help would be appreciated!
  5. Hey guys. Im fairly new to the dirt bike game and I am having trouble figuring out what bike would fit me best. I have been on a four stroke Yamaha 125 for a year now and am looking to upgrade. Heres the deal, I don't have the cash to get a new bike so I've been looking for used ones. Im 5' 8'' and 175lbs. I have found a nice yz 250 that is in my price range on craigslist but im not sure if I can handle a two stroke. I have also heard that 2 stroke bikes are prone to blowing up. I want something that will be quality that I wont have to dump money into. I am strictly riding trails but no motocross races. If I am not racing it will it have problems? Do I go for this two stroke or do I wait to find a four stroke 250. Also what is the difference between a 125cc yz and a 250cc yz. They seem the same in speed. Would a 125 yz make a suitable bike? Any advice would be very appreciated. Thank you.

SPECIFICATIONS Highway Dirt Bikes has designed some clever components into its system. Plus, it has many choices for anyone’s desired setup. Pricing varies with options, but my set tested out right around $225.I went with the billet hand guard system with the Powerlet top clamp. This gives me a spot to mount any Powerlet gear in the future. I also added the Electrosport key switch mount, which just happened to fit (with a little adjusting) my Husaberg ignition MAP switch. The system is built incredibly well and has to be the beefiest hand guard system I’ve seen. They are machined out of billet aluminum and have a unique teardrop shape that allows the mirrors to nest during tree bashing. And speaking of mirrors-usually the bane of the dual-sporter’s existence-the HDB set is a nice departure from the usual too low, too high, too shaky standard experience. When deployed they offer the best view of any mirror I’ve tried. You can get a complete, wide view of what’s behind you with the convex design. The system mounts solidly to your bar. Instead of the traditional expanding-bolt mounting system, HDB gives you a tap for your handlebar. You actually thread these hand guards in place. Talk about solid. The whole system is a bit overbuilt and designed to take a pounding, and it does. There is also a big boss on the bar end to protect the grip-very clever.I couldn’t be happier with the Highway Dirt Bikes hand guard system, and since I’ve had it on my bike many of my riding buddies are now converts.

  9. i have a 94 and a 01 rm 250, they are great bikes but my one question is why does my bone stock 01 absolutely blow the doors off my bone stock 94????. The best way i can describe it is that my 94 feels more like a 125 then a 250 not a lot of low end power but a shit ton of top end. Is something wrong? or could it be something as simple as a power valve adjustment? my 01 has power thought and feels and pulls like a 250 should but not my 94.... what could be wrong!?!?!
  10. Hey, So I laid my bike down and cracked the crank case cover to where oil was shooting out of it. I really need some help on the details of this little repair. I have a new gasket and crankcase cover. But I want to know if there is anything I need to worry about. Metal shavings or other issues that tend to be related to a cracked crank case. I ride this bike to campus and need it to be as safe as possible. I also cannot find any torque specs on the bolts surrounding the cover, so that would be helpful as well. I also have a more complicated question.... I have been researching and contemplating this in my head for months. I had a fork oil leak on both of the forks and have bought new oil seals and dust caps. I do know that this is somewhat of a tricky repair and am ready for that. However, I am worried that maybe some groves have formed in the metal on the inside of the tube that will prevent a tight seal anyways. Does anyone have any advice on this? Will I have to hone out the inner tubes? Is that even possible? PLEASE Help. I want to get started asap as I am spending money to park on campus everyday in my car. Plus driving cars sucks in a place as beautiful place as Fayetteville Arkansas
  11. hey guys so i bought a 2008 crf250r recently of a mate, it was very hard to start cold it would only start with a push so i took off the rocker cover and checked valve clearance it needed new shims, the valves had not been replaced in a while so i put new valves in the bike myself also with new shims and a new head gasket after doing this the bike started with in 3 kicks, all was going good, i took the bike to the track on the weekend, again the bike started up very easily but when it got warm it was hard to start and a bit of white smoke come out one of the exhausts,. i took it home and noticed that that the oil was milky colour , i took the head off and checked the valves one of them was leaking a tiny bit of petrol so i seated the valves again and that stopped the leak i put the bike together again and it wouldn't start i put new oil into the bike and again it was milky the bike was a bit hard to kick , any chance could it have done the head gasket, ive checked the rad and its not leaking water into the engine oil and the tranny oil is fine at this point im stuck, someone please help

  13. I wonder how far and for how long I can ride into woods and mountains in winter not worrying about broken cables from the cold, frozen fuel, sticking clutch or other surprises? What was the max sub-zero temperature you were riding? How low you can go? I was skiing once at -30 Celsius (-22F), can dirt bike do that too?
