  1. I have a 2006 KX250 that I rebuilt the top end on last year. First ride went amazing, with no issues. Second ride not so much. I was riding along and somehow the spark plug came loose and came out of the top of the cylinder head. For whatever reason I hope it was only because I forgot to tighten it. But after I put it back in place I started and continued to ride for a couple hours. Then out of nowhere my bike just stalled. I kicked and kicked but nothing happened. Once I got it home started off with changing spark plug, but had no spark. Did a little research and asked a few friends and they led me too changing my ignition coil. So I changed that and also added a new plug cap, but still no spark. Could this be a CDI issue?? Stator?? Or does anybody have any tips for troubleshooting these items, other than what I've read about trying new CDI box, hoping and praying that I don't have two over priced perfectly fine boxes kicking around?
  2. Recently acquired a “whirring” or “whining” sound, and can’t figure out what it is. I’ve just rebuilt the water pump, with new bearings and seals, as the outer seal was worn. I also changed the power valve bearings while I had the inner case open. That didn’t remedy the noise, even though I suspected these respective bearings being the cause. Here is a clip of the engine running, and the sound is pretty clearly heard (to me): KX250 Engine Noise
  3. I’d like to add lighting, horns etc somewhere down the line. the stator on the KX has two coils. On the KDX one is for lighting and one is for ignition (I think). Why does the kx have two coils? what I’m thinking is I may able to use one coil, re wrap to generate a greater output and use lighting from this stator. Any one tried this? Or would I need to get the KDX stator, flywheel, lighting and ignition coil, switchgear etc id rather not go down the battery and LED route but I’m open to ideas. Any input would be appreciated. TIA, Jez.
  4. Hey all so recently got done building my first set of wheels for my 1998 KX250 and boy do I love how they look. Currently my only issue seems to be the spokes on the front wheel look way too damn short. Maybe someone can give me some insight. I used a factory front hub from a 1999 KX250, MXChamp 1998 KX500 and a 21” Tusk Impact rim seems like there’s only 1/4” of thread on the spoke grabbing in the threads of the nipple. The seller insists that they are the correct spokes (230MM length). The rim is offset correctly from what they’ve told me and the rim is trued within .03”-.04”. My understanding is Hub/spoke/rim combo should work all together. But not nearly enough thread grabbing. I also compared the “230mm” spoke to my brother in laws 2019 KTM SX450F front spoke (226mm) and as you’ll see in the photos it is actually LONGER than the “230mm” spoke.
  5. I have an 87 kx250 pretty much completely redone. The only thing in the top end i haven't changed is the reeds. I think they may be the issue but i thought id ask. When it sits and idles or goes slow for a while it gets like congested when you give it gas it will smoke really bad and have no power. but once it clears up it takes off good and strong. any ideas? As for the carb im not sure what size jets it has.
  6. I'm looking for a good next bike looking at getting a kx250.ive ridden 125 2 strokes and 250 4 strokes. I love 2 strokes and wanting to get one. I'm 16 I weight 160lbs and I'm 6'0". Wanting to know if that is a good woods bike or if y'all had any suggestions for me. Thank you in advance
  7. Where can I buy a complete oem crankshaft for my 99 KX250 HELP! Also do that make a complete oem bearing rebuild kit or do I have to buy each bearing separate I’m not interested in a wrench rabbit kit or hot rods kit or Wiseco kit I have heard terrible things about all of them oem for me hopefully! Thanks
  8. Hi, I'm new to Kawasaki and noticed there are two options for the OEM seat when looking at the OEM parts diagrams. Low Height (optional) and High Height. So is the High Height the standard seat? Thanks.
  9. So I'm rebuilding my kx250 2000 in to minds whether to get frame powder coated original colour and get stock graphics or to proper tart it up with black wheels and liking the monster energy graphics or to do it all black, will be keeping it for another summer then looking to get a newer bike
  10. Hello, I recently purchased a kx 250 03'. At least that what i was told. To be honest i dont know anything about kawasakis (this is my first one) and i would very much apreciate if any of you could help me verify that it is a 03'. Im concerned because somebody said it was a 02'. I took a photo of the frame number Thanks😊
  11. So I ordered the big case saver thinking it was metal and its plastic so smashed my case, had it fixed now but do I need all 3 of these pieces I've just ordered 12053a but dosnt seem to fit it catches on the case slightly so do I need 12053 as well and what does (op) mean? Cheers guys
  12. I am restoring a 1998 KX250. I'm not too familiar with Kawasaki parts interchangeability. I need to know what years cylinder will work on my 1998 cases. I know the factory porting is different and I'd love to have the correct cylinder, but they are very hard to find. I am looking for a plated cylinder, not sleeved. Maybe someone here has one they wanna part with??
  13. Smoking bad and doesn’t seem to have full power. Right seal was just changed and when I put a rubber glove at exhaust it doesn’t oil up. Fender ends up black after a few mins. And does not stop when I’m trying to blow it out. Cylinder just redone by millennium tech. Only 3 hours on it and new top end. Is this a jetting problem? The pic shows what it does from 1/8 throttle to wide open.
  14. I have a kx250-e1 and can't seem to find an exhaust for this is there any other exhaust I can find for this.
  15. What’s the easiest way to get the pivot bolt out from engine mount that holds your swing arm I don’t want to damage the bolt
  16. Hi you clever lot, Advice please. Bottom end reassembled. Shifts gears using the shift drum nicely - no binding or bad noises. When using gear lever and shifting mechanism 9 times outta 10 doesn’t select gears - usually end up halfway. Both shafts turn nicely together. When in neutral I can stop one shaft turning whilst turning the other. Do you think.. 1.) I’ve incorrectly installed selector forks 2.) I’ve misaligned selector fork pins 3.) I haven’t sufficiently lubricated trans before installation. 4.) something else I haven’t considered.. I’ve got my case splitter ready as advised by No1. Clyde just wondering if there’s something else I haven’t considered.
  17. So this peice is loose. Moving up and down. I'm not sure on what its called but I could use some information on what it is.. What it does and how to fix it. What will happen if I dont get it fixed and still ride.. I am Not a mechanic but if it's simple enough to fix I will attempt. Thanks
  18. Don’t know if this is the right site , but a couple years ago I was riding my 1984 Tecate and all the sudden the motor went into barely running above an idle mode. I checked the reed valves and carb , which to my memory looked fine and then pushed it into the barn. Well , after rebuilding a 85 CR 250 , I’m going to start on this bike. Any ideas.
  19. I just bought new plates for my 2000 kx250 and I took the old ones off and put them on and put it all back together started the bike went to take off and the clutch lever piled all the way to the handle bars ! So I took it all apart again as there was some play between the bearings at the end of the rod and the pressure plate. So I staked up the old set and new set and the new set is 1 plate to tall compared to the old ones and they each have 8 friction and 7 steel . So know I don’t know what to do?? And yes all the washers are there I looked at the diagram every pice is back where it goes..
  20. I am restoring A 1999 KX250 and I have no idea where this part goes looked through the entire bike book and still couldn't find where it goes
  21. So I'm going to sort my smashed case on my 00 kx250 and going to do my first full engine rebuild is there any other special tools I will need I've just bought, Case spliter Fly wheel puller Fly wheel holder Impacr driver
  22. I had Baught a 2000 kx 250.rides like a 4stroke.i don’t think the power bands hitting.climbing hills in third gear.after3rd 4th and 5gear rev out extremely fast causing the bike to be extremely slow.5th gear I can barely gas it before it seems to be highly reved out.is that do to the power band not working?
  23. Ok so ill keep it short and sweet. I had an issue with a kx250 engine locking up. I checked before i went to splitting the case. Once i did i found the culprit to be the top input gear wheel thats supposed to spin on the shaft. It was completely seized and ive tried everything i can to get it off to no avail. Is their any way to get this gear off or would i have to cut it off?
  24. So I ordered the big case saver thinking it was metal and its plastic so smashed my case, had it fixed now but do I need all 3 of these pieces I've just ordered 12053a but dosnt seem to fit it catches on the case slightly so do I need 12053 as well and what does (op) mean? Originally part maybe? Cheers guys
