  1. I’ve got a 2019 kx85 with a busted front wheel, all the wheels I’ve seen on eBay are either 2001-2013 or 2014-2020. The wheels ones are significantly cheaper, does anyone know if the older one will fit the newer bike?
  2. I got a question. I own a 2016 KX 85. It ran amazing after it first bought it used. I was riding one day with a bogging issue and about 35 minutes of riding I shut it off to take a break. Came back 20 minutes later and it would not start.I changed the spark plug, cleaned out the carb, checked the reeds, and tried hill starting it but nothing .When ever I try to hill start it I can hear it trying to crank and It starts for like half a second but then dies. There is spark coming from the plug though.I took the cylinder off and the piston and cylinder are &%$#@!ed.The piston rings were stuck in the grooves and I had to use pliers and a screwdriver to get it out. There was a ton of blow-by and the cylinder was scored.I bought a new piston already but how can I fix my cylinder.Im thinking of getting it repaired and replayed by either millennium,PowerSeal USA, or usnicom. This is my first time owning a 2 stroke.Any answers or tips.
  3. Hi guys, i was looking for a new cylinder for my kx 85 2004, since mine is in bad condition. I can only find 2006+ cylinder online, can i mount these cylinder on my 2004?
  4. I just bought a kx 85,(new to the 2 strokes) and it seems like the power valve isn't opening. I researched it and found the dot not aligned with the case marking. So my question is, is there a way I can align the shaft without pulling the cylinder or side cover?
  5. I got a question. I own a 2016 KX 85. It ran AMAZING after it first bought it used and was in beautiful condition and I picked it up for only 2500. I was riding when all of a sudden it started bogging down right before the power band.i don’t think it’s jetting because the bogging just turned on like a switch and it was running perfect before it. The bike was like that for a month. Apparently the previous owner never oiled the filter so it was dry as a rock and was falling apart and got sucked into to the intake so I’m guessing my power valve is gummed up or stuck close or open. I was riding one day with the bog issue and about 35 minutes of riding I shut it off to take a break. Came back 20 minutes later and it would not start.I changed the spark plug, cleaned out the carb, checked the reeds, and tried hill starting it but nothing. When ever I try to hill start it I can hear it trying to crank and It starts for like half a second but then dies.I don’t remember if I left the fuel petcock on but what I’m guessing is that I flooded the engine and tried starting which messed up my electronics. The reason why I think I flooded the Engine is because when I took off the reeds the intake manifold and reed were soaked in gas.I heard that starting the engine while flooded can mess with a woodruff key or your CDI or something. There is spark coming from the plug though. And yes I mix the gas with oil at 32:1 cause I’m in the pipe all the time. This is my first time owning a 2 stroke.Any answers or tips.
  6. I helped a friend put a new piston in after 48 hours on a Vertex piston. Wasted 10 minutes watching YouTube videos on how to disconnect the power valve. Finally grabbed the manual online to find out you remove the c-clip and just spin the rubber gasket out of the way🤯. wow - check this piston out With a crack that was about to blow. Ok it had 48 pretty hard hours. Word to the wise —- if ridden hard i would say 25-30 would be much safer.
  7. Hi guys! This is my first time using these forums so this might be sloppy; However, hopefully you guys can help me. I just recently purchased a pro circuit R-304 shorty exhaust from rocky mountain for my 2020 Kx85. Then installation was going smoothly, everything was on right got it into the slip on then things took a turn for the worst. You see I could bolt it down to one of the mounts just fine however the second mount wouldn't be aligned. I tried doing the other one first; However this time, the other mount was unaligned. So basically, I can align one of the mounts; However, the other mount will be unaligned. I loosened my pipe's mounting bolt so I would get some play and maybe it would help me align it; However, No luck. I made sure I installed everything correctly and I just am clueless why this is not working. This is my first time installing a new exhaust so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. Is it possible I'm just the most unlucky person in the world and my exhaust is defective? I want to just wing it and send it with it only on 1 bolt; However, I'm afraid something will go wrong. If you guys can help me that would be great :). I attached a image of what the situation looks like.
  8. i am building a 2003 kx 85 for a guy. i got the bike an it was locked up top and bottom end. i tore the bike down and put a vertex top end with a hotrod crank, with a new/ used transmition. i have had a lot of ups an downs with this bike, such as before i got it running the powervalve governer spring gear, i discovered was completely shot. so i put a new one in. i finally got the bike up and running with little effort. the bike ran so crisp started 2nd kick every time 1st kick after warm. i was just waiting on some odds and ends to tie the bike together an give it back to the owner. but the other day after riding the bike for allitle to test the bike after putting about 2 hours of the top end to make sure everything was good. i went to start up the bike and it would start and then cut off. i got home found a piece of metal in the bottom of the inner clutch cover, then i then matched that piece up with the old powervalve actuator,(kips) . so as i would usually do when a part breaks i replace it. so i went and got a used pwoervalve actuator(kips), i waited for arival and after a long time of waiting i installed the new kips, wich i thought i installed correctly, by lining up the dot with the case mark, but the thing is is i go to start up the bike and the bike starts up 2nd kick like always and i let it warm up on choke and i give it alittle throttle and it returns to idle (not hitting the powerband) so i start to rev the bike right before the power band and blip the throttle, it reved into the powerband and sputtered and shit off (puffing out smoke while spuddering) it will only shut off when i let off the throttle, the thing that gets me is that i checked my allignment witht the case mark no exageration like 6 times and the bike will do the same thing, i then toom the plastic powervalve cover off to see if the powervalve was being stuck open or something of that nature. but it was opending and closing but it took awhile for it to close almost like the powervalve is being held open but not stuck. i am just verry lost and have been raking my head for days now. please help me. and if anyone is willing to talk with me about this private message me and i will give you my phone number. i will also provide videos and pictures appon request.
  9. I recently purchased an ‘02 KX85 that didn’t run when I bought it. It had been poorly maintained. The seller said they tried to put a new piston and rings to no avail. I went through the entire fuel system and the bike fired right up but had considerable knocking. When I pulled the cylinder the rod was in bad shape so I rebuilt the bottom end. Everything was in spec with regard to piston, rings, and cylinder clearances so I used the new piston and rings. I used a ball hone on the cylinder. There was a slight chip at the lower end of the exhaust port. When I got everything back together yesterday the bike fired right up. I ran it through break in heat cycles and took it for a 10 minute ride no more than 1/4 throttle mostly in 2nd gear. I woke up this morning and the bike wouldn’t start. At one point I heard a pop of air come out of the exhaust. I eventually pulled the plug, cleaned it and got the bike to start. After warming it up having to give it some light throttling I rode it for about 5 minutes before it stalled. Did a compression test and it might be 20-30 psi. Will pull the cylinder to see what’s going on but really wondering what the pop of air from the exhaust means???? Had a cylinder recently replated on another bike and it runs like a champ. Don’t really want to spend that money on this bike though.
  10. Hi. My 2008 kx85 sat for about a year and I tried firing it up. It wouldn’t start and was told it just needed a new spark plug. Of course I broke the spark plug wire when changing the plug. I replaced the coil and now only spark plugs with the tip removed (now the threads can be seen) will fit. I bought a new spark plug and the tips don’t come off. Which spark plug should I buy? When looking at spark plugs online it doesn’t say whether or not the tips can come off. Any help appreciated. Thanks
  11. I’m doing a top end rebuild on my kx85. I have everything apart but I I wanted how do I know it I need my piston replated.
  12. Ok so... ive been fighting the clutch on my sons dirtbike for a month now lol. The bike stalls when dropped into first gear. I put a new clutch pack in it, new springs, new push rod, shims, and the linkage that attaches to the inside of the clutch cover. The issue im having is the clutch isn't getting enough throw. I installed the max amount of shims that are recommended and still not getting enough throw. What should I check next or has anyone else had this issue that can point me in the right direction?

  14. I have a 2006 KX85 with a bad crank, but I have a couple KX bottom ends that are good and am trying to figure out the compatibility. I have a '97 KX100 bottom end and a 2000 kx80 bottom end. I notice the CDI is different but the ignition coil are the same on all. Both KX80 & 85 share a power valve so to me it seems I could slap the top end onto the 80 bottom and send it. Maybe have to change the CDI/stator over from the '06 to the '00 bottom?
  15. Newbie here. I have been looking over past info for awhile. Anyways, my son picked up a 2004 Kx85 that had the cases split to remove parts of a piston that failed. When the previous owner got it back together. the transmission was stuck in gear. I offered to help on the job as neither my son or I had been in the bottom end of any dirt bike. Most of our experience is 4-stroke quads and the occasional top end. I have torn everything down and found a few pieces of piston that were left and also a tranny gear that was in backwards. Everything has been cleaned up and I am starting to put things back together. I decided to replace crank bearings and seals once I was in the bottom. I had froze the crank bearings and heated the cases to get the bearings in. They dropped partially in and I was able to tap them the rest of the way. My question is... I cant seem to get the bearings all the way in or maybe they bearing does not need to go in so far that it contacts the seal. (see pic). The inner face of the bearing is just a tad out from the inner face of the case. Is this normal? Also on the shift drum, is there an orientation this is supposed to be before assembly? I have the shop manual but it is pretty vague on this. I feels like it could be installed in a couple different positions or gears but what is neutral? Thanks in advance for any help! I just want to make sure we have this right before putting the cases back together.
  16. Ok y’all I need some help in this one, I’m in a little bit of a pickle. So I just bought a 2007 kx 85 that didn’t run. Well i figured it was a carb issue cause it had been setting a while. Took the carb apart, look relatively clean. Pilot jet had some clogging but that was it. So it’s all cleaned out now, and I fired it up and it starts and runs perfect on choke. I take it off of choke and it idles for a second then progressively goes higher and higher. I can adjust the air needle and it will go back down but then it just bogs. It almost surged sometimes. It’s definitely a lean condition but nothing works. I’m considering building a leak down tester and giving that a shot. Also under the stator cover there is no oil or anything so no blown left crank seal right? I’ve never re jetted something so I’m at a loss of what to do if that’s the issue. Just hit me with some ideas please! Thank y’all!!
  17. Hi All- I've read that the 2001 kx85 was a 1 year bike, and that engine changes where made in 2002. Can I swap in a 2006+ cylinder? I know I would need a new pipe, but will everything else work together. Any changes to the power valve itself, I know they added a breather. My son had his first season of desert racing this year and we have some downtime in the summer. The last time I did a top end I knew the cylinder would need to be shipped off to Millennium or replaced at the next rebuild. The 2006+ cyliders are readily available and affordable.
  18. Ok so I was riding when all of a sudden I noticed something wiggling around on my bike and it the top part where you twist with your hand of the oil filler cap... what should I do to extract it I already took the top off so now it’s just a piece of rubber sealing the case 🙁
  19. So I've got a kx80 with an 85 motor and a full kx80 electrical system so the bike has fuel to the plug, compression and spark but when the spark plug is touching the head it sparks but doesn't shock my hand however if I hold it where it's not touching any metal it will shock my hand. So I wire wheeled off the frame earth point as it was powder coated so when the plug is touching the frame it will shock my hand but it just doesn't when it's touching the engine head which I think is why it won't start help anyone? Also it's got a metal plug cap (aftermarket not oem I noticed that there's a spark arcing between the metal of the top of the plug and the coil cap could this also be contributing to it not running?
  20. Recently got a new to me o2' KX85 for the kids (and me 🙂 ). Yes I probably overpaid, but it checked all the right boxes in the moment. Unfortunately, like any almost 20 year old bike there are underlying issues. ??? The bike has (obviously) not been maintained well. But it does has a fresh piston & jug.. should I be concerned about other drivetrain issues and do a complete tear down (check ..rod/bearings/crank), or just roll the dice?? Carb was clean, but isn't jetted properly ( it idels well, but bogs ¼-½ throttle). Float was out, I fixed that... Then cleaned out exauhst spooge. Unfortunately, that was after I repacked the silencer (has 10 minutes of spooge fling in new repack). I do have a jet kit on the way to FIX the bog issue. Also.. front brake lever is mushy. I'm aware that's a typical issue. I've rebuild the caliper and can guarantee the system is 99.9% air free Questions?? Should I (would you) do a drivetrain tear down? (Mainly to ensure the (mostly) fresh top end stays fresh! What are my best front brake fix/upgrade options?
  21. Hello, I just recently recently did a top end and also changed the clutch side gaskets and noticed the the power valve wasn't moving even at high rpm’s. I made sure that the power valve shaft was aligned with the spot on the case and the power valves that are in the cylinder move freely so I don’t know what the problem is? Any help is appreciated!
  22. Hello everyone, I'm going to try to be as concise and specific as possible. My 2006 KX85 will shift fine from neutral into 1st and then 2nd. When in 2nd it seems to get stuck and does not want to go into 3rd or higher. After doing some research I just knew it had to be the shifter return spring.. Well after removing the right side case I was able to get a look at, and remove to inspect, the shifter return spring. (Big spring located in the lower portion of the case on shift shaft) It seems to be fine. Also, I read somewhere on the interwebs that not having a washer on the drain bolt will sometimes cause it to contact the shift drum and not allow shifting. So I made sure I had a washer on the drain plug. When I shift through the gears by hand, if I shift and then manually return the shifter slightly downward it seems to be fine and will then shift into the next gear. I thought for sure it would be the return spring but it just seems to be in too good of condition (very stiff) to be the culprit. If anyone has experience with this or has any idea what else may be the issue I would greatly appreciate the input. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help. I will update as I dig deeper into the issue
  23. My son has a 2019 kx85 was wondering if I can use race fuel without rejetting and if so what kind or should I mix with pump gas
  24. I have a strange jetting issue. My son said the bike did not used to do this. I don't know for sure because I never road it my self. He has about 10 hours of seat time on it, maybe he's just now paying attention. Anyway it has stock jetting and it idles fastest with the airscrew about 1 3/8 out. At that setting if I crack the throttle wide open too fast it bogs for a second or stalls. If I turn the air screw all the way in the idle drops and it wants to stall, but when I do the same test in that setting it does not bog. I don't see any possible air leaks in the carb joint, but it does take 2-3 seconds to settle back to idle after revving. I initially thought the pilot was clogging, so I cleaned and rebuilt the carb with new jets. I also dumped the fuel and cleaned the brand new ims desert tank that has been in the bike for about 5 hours. The top end was rebuilt 8 hours ago.
