  1. so I was riding my 2009 kx250f and I was riding like normal on trails and stuff and I had a small lay down of the bike got on my feet picked it back up it wasn’t down for just long enough for me to pick it right back up so I thought it was fine it had some trouble starting I thought it was flooded so I let it sit for about 10 min it started but it was making a weird noise in the engine so I lightly drove it to the shed and checked the oil it was a little low but not empty and my coolant was empty when I laid it down I noticed it was spraying out and it had done that the week before but I didn’t think anything of it so I need some help it sounds like a sucking / clanging sound and it sound between the the bottom of the intake and the bottom end maybe it’s a intake vavle it didn’t seize up so just let me know your guys thought thanks

  3. Hey guys, I am looking into a new kx, just curious, I have looked into the 2017s and all the reviews say that the linear power is quite boring. I am coming off of a 2010 Kx250f carbureted so I like the snappy hit of the carb however I need a new bike to keep up with racing. The reviews on the 2018s all talk about all the updates on the 18 but there isn’t any mention on the power compared to the 17. My question is, is it really worth paying more for an 18 or getting a cheaper 17. Which one do you guys own and what do you think about them? I was thinking of getting a 17 and putting a vortex ignition on it. Do you reckon this is a better idea than getting a 2018? Thanks.
  4. Hey everyone! I ride a 2017 kx250f and I'm a pretty light rider(135 pounds with out gear) and my front forks are super stiff. I've tried to make them as soft as possible but I just can't get them soft enough. can someone tell me if changing the fork oil would make a big difference or should I go straight to changing the fork spring? Thanks everybody!
  5. 2007 KX250F w/ 269cc big bore Recently bought this bike and had a mechanic tune it up. Valve adjustment and some other basic stuff. He said the it was in great shape. It’s been riding like a dream, I’ve probably put about 10 hrs on it. Yesterday before a short ride I topped off the oil and started towards the trail head it’s rode about 3 miles and was cruising in 5th gear and suddenly lost power. Throttle was very boggy, almost unresponsive. Then the bike stalled. I took a look no and leaks or anything but then bike wouldn’t start from kicking or bump starting after that. Loaded it into the truck and got home and realized there was too much oil in it. So I drained it out and put the right amount of oil in and it still won’t start. Please help.

  7. Hello, This is my first post on the forum and I need serious help! I am working on a 2012 kx250f (fuel injected) with a lot of aftermarket parts. It has a realize clutch, procircut full exhaust system, pro circuit water pump, and the whole motor was built by procircut at some point. The owner says he had it wide open and it just stopped and wouldn’t start. Long story short the rings had stuck inside the piston and the cylinder was scared up pretty bad. I put a new piston and cylinder on shimmed it timed it and put it together nothing. It will act like it wants to start every now and then but won’t. Fuel pump and good pressure spark is nice and blue and I triple checked the timing. Also bought a fuel injector cleaner set from motion pro and the injector worked fine. PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi everyone, I have a 2015 Kx250f and am going to the Hatfield McCoy trails soon and was wondering how many miles I can expect to get out of my kx250f, last year when I went down there on my 09 kx250f I ran out of fuel 5 miles from the closest gas station 😂, I was hoping to avoid that this year lol
  9. New to the forum so it has come to the point where lurking isn't enough lol I am a very experienced mechanic, just not on fuel injected offroad machines. A friend offered me a kx250f 2011 for a good price he just couldn't get it to idle right. It pulls like a freight train, never smokes, some tasteful parts on it so I decided it would be worth it to try to get it idling right. I haven't been on 2 wheels in a decade and my wife is REALLY getting into a KLX140 so i want to share the experience with her instead of looking lame riding around with her on my ltz400 lol So here is my dilemma. I have went through the throttle body and air filter and cleaned the bike along with many connectors, it was long overdue. Ran a dealer diagnostics test and it came back all good. It seemed to help the idle issue but I'm still having an inconsistent idle and I can make it cease and start with the gear shifter so I need to understand how the ECU in these first generation FI kawasakis work. -Bike won't start without some throttle cold or warm(im still learning this bikes quirks so I haven't been paying a lot of attention to this) -i can adjust the fast idle screw to get it to idle all day at 2000rpms in neutral once warm -idle does NOT hang in neutral when the throttle is blipped -once I bump it to first it idles up like I understand it should -if I blip it in gear the idle hangs. If I had to guess around 3000rpm or so for a while - i can force the high idle to stop if I bump it back into neutral. So what exactly does this ecu read/tell the engine to do when these bikes come out of neutral? I did buy a factory service manual and I'm going to skim through it a lot more tonight but until i know what is changing between neutral and first im in the dark as far as where to start. Appreciate any help. Thanks -
  10. Hey guys, I’ve got a 2012 kx250f. When I got it it had lots of white smoke coming out of the exhaust. I changed the oil and it got all better. Now, when I accelerate quickly and when the bike starts some white smoke comes out. I think it’s oil, but not sure. What can be the causes of this? The previous owner said he rode it for 80 hours in total in the past year, but he also didn’t take good care of it.
  11. Hey guys I’ve been having a issue with my bike and need help. I took it out riding and went through a river and the engine died and wouldn’t kick over. So I tipped the bike straight up drained the water and have flushed out the engine with 6 litres of oil and every time I start it up, it turns milky. Anyone know what’s really going on or what I can do.
  12. Hello all, im new here, been reading through alot and after taking in so much info i just need it broken down step by step. I recently purchased an 07 kx250f. Id like to plate it and such, not sure weather to go through SD for plates or if illinois dmv woulf even let me transfer plates over etc. The vin has the dreaded C as its 8th digit. Please let me know what all i have to do legally to ride on the street worry free (other than dot tires, lights, mirror, horn. etc.) Thank you guys
  13. Hey guys, I'm really stuck on this one. So I just picked up a 2014 Rmz250 and it will not kickstart cold but will kickstart when at normal operating temps. The only way I can start it is with the good old bump start method. Put in a brand new Ngk spark plug, new air filter, new 92 Oct fuel and still no luck.... took it apart and inspected the wires and they looked good. It is giving no spark to a very week one on cold engine. Anyone ever ran into such a weird issue? I bought it thinking I need to so a rebuild but I feel like it's probably running rich due to poor spark... let me know thanks
  14. Just got done checking the valve clearance on my 2007 KX250F tonight. Valves were within spec, everything good. Put everything back together and one of my valve cover bolts won’t tighten up. It will thread in all the way, but it will not get tight! Kicked it over a few times, and on the compression stroke I can hear what sounds like air leaking from the valvetrain down into the generator/flywheel area. Started the bike, it runs just fine but the air noise is still there. Any idea on what this could be?
  15. I own a 2009 kx250f and recently rebuilt the motor. I put a new top end in and replaced the valves and shimmed them to spec. The bike ran great for roughly 12 hours then one day at the track in the middle of riding it started to bog and backfired really loud. I continued my lap and it repeated the same thing then the bike just died. It then wouldn't start so I bump started it and it ran for about 3 seconds then died. I took the bike home and rebuilt the carburetor and put a new spark plug and fired it up and it ran for about 3 seconds again and died. I don't know where to go from here except taking it to a shop. If anybody has any ideas i'd highly appreciate your opinion!
  16. Alright so I just rebuilt my 2012 kx250f complete rebuild. I put the motor back in the bike get everything hooked up and ready to go it takes a few kicks at first (obviously) but after it starts it sat and idled just fine for a while then it stalled out. Tried to start it again wouldn't start I took the spark plug out of it it looked good I was dark and wet. I cleaned it then put the spark plug back in it it took a few kicks but started right back up again then after a while it stalled out again and now I can't get it to start again!? Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you guys and girls for reading and hopefully for the help!!!
  17. My bike is messed up for the most part. I recently had bought a whole new cylinder head and new valves along with new rings. I put the bike all back together and it still didnt run with a brand new spark plug and starting fluid. I know the valves need to be adjusted. If i adjust the valves and the bike dont run, could there be any other problems that i could look at.

Just did a top end rebuild on my kx250f, got it all back together, started up fine, but it wouldn't idle, after shutting it down and tearing the cover back off, the valve housing (not sure exactly what this area is called, but the top of the top end?) Was filled with oil, pooled in the whole area. Any idea why this would be? I've done many valve adjustments, and have never seen oil in there like that The included picture is to show where the oil was at, but was taken after I had cleaned it.
  19. I recently bought a 2012 kx250f. The guy I bought it from said he never adjusted the valves, but the previous owner bought a new engine in 2014. The bike is burning oil (I haven’t had a chance to do an oil change yet so idk how much) but it burns on startup, and when the bike is revved high quickly. It isn’t hard to start, every time I’ve started it it only takes 1 kick. I’ve heard it could be the valve guides, seats, or the piston rings. Any suggestions on what it most likely is?
  20. I have recently just got an 08 kx250f, the bike had low compression and wont start but did backfire a little bit. Now that i have had to replace the whole cylinder head, piston rings and valves, the bike has high compression and wont run. I have tried bump starting but will still not run. There is still a problem that i know with the bike and that the valve clearance is off. If I get that fixed and it still doesnt run is there any other thing I could do to the bike to make it run.

So I have a 2012 kx250f pulled the fuel pump to check filter filters done and apparently so is the pump motor witch was the reason I was having some of the problems I was having an I broke the filter off the pump an kx having the best fuel pump system ever (not) the pumps not rebuildable the filters not replacable or anything Im trying to see what years fuel pumps will work I can't find any 2012 or 13 but I found a 2017 for 230$ it looks s the same but I wanted to check if it would work before I got it I'm just not trying to spend 430 on a pump because kawi thought it would be a great idea to make it that way

Hi, I have just bought a kx250f, 2013 with a freshly rebuilt 2016 motor in it, this is my first time on these forums, anyways, I have also bought a lowering link to drop it 4 inches on the arse, I was wondering if anyone knows how much I should drop the forks? I havent put the lowering link on yet. Thanks.
  24. The motor on my 2018 kx250f locked up in the middle of my race the other day, the drain plug managed to fall out during my second GP and I heard a loud screech noise then very shortly after the bike completely shut off and locked up. Not sure what to do for my next step. Any recommendations?
  25. It has 50 hrs on it , not rebuilt but has had valve adjustments recently by previous owner. I was tuning my suspension and testing every couple clicks when it died on me. It started it back up no problem and rode another 5 mins and same thing, started it again and noticed it backfired on deceleration. So I stalled it and pushed it back to the shop and noticed the kick start was jammed. So I un jammed that and removed engine plugs to test piston movement and there is no interference with valves but it still kicks hard and it wont start. And insight before I tear into it would be much appreciated.
