  1. Need help or advice on picking a bike. My last bike was an 04crf250. So been off the bike a few years. My dilemma is a 2009 rmz450 or a 2012 kx450f or maybe even a 2014 yzf450. RMZ is from a dealership. Was owned and maintained by an apprentice who works there at the shop so I'm sure maintainence was kept up on it, however the guy is a racer so that bike has been through a lot however taken care of. Guy said the bike practically has a new engine and does have some mods, fmf full system, rekluse clutch and forks have been revalved for I believe 180 or 200lb rider, I am 150. And other small stuff. I think price OTD I can get it for is $3K or $$3200. 2012 kx450f. Don' know much about but seems bike has been taken care of decently. Has KYB suspension. No mods really. Just hand guards and pro taper handle bar. And that's really it. Guy said he is pretty firm on $3800 but I'm sure will take $3600 And then there is a 2014 YZF450 that I've had my eye on but don' really want a Yamaha unless someone can change my mind. Looks like it' in decent condition and guy is asking $3700. Any pros or cons to these bikes or personal experience that you guys can share? Thanks!
  2. So I have a 2006 Kawasaki Kx450. Yeah, the bike is 13 years old, but has less than 100 hours on it, maybe around 50-75 by noe. It's pretty amazing shape for its age as a result. And maybe I'm being paranoid, but I've read that the oil pumps on the Kx450f's and Kx250f's from years 2006-2009 have a tendency to fail. My question is, do they just completely stop working all at once and grenade your engine? Do they slowly deteriorate from wear and tear and lose a little more oil pressure every ride? How would I check and know for sure what my oil pressure is like and if I should be worried? And lastly, does anyone manufacture an OEM oil pump, or aftermarket solution that's more safe and reliable for my engine? Like I said, maybe I'm being paranoid but i really would hate to ruin my favorite ride over something avoidable with preventative maintanence. ANY HELP, KNOWLEDGE, OR ADVICE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED
  3. Hi guys, i mounted a full fmf 4.1 ti system on my 2016 kx450f, I'd like to give a little more fuel and I'm wondering if i could use one of that wiseco fuel controller boxes avoiding to remap the ecu. There are some model for the 2013-2015 but I can't find any for the 2016-2018. Any advice? Thanks
  4. Hey guys and gals, I ended up getting a knocking noise after a long run... About 10 minutes away from my house on the return route too :(. Anyways, I took the engine apart and the connecting rod has some play in it and not just side movement. I can get a video of it tomorrow BUT either way, I'm wondering the cost of the repair. When the connecting rod gets this, is it just the bearing that needs to be replaced or is it the whole crank? I really hope for my wallets sake it isn't the second one..
  5. Well everybody this forum has helped me alot in regards to building and troubleshooting many of my kxfs but this new bike has me completely confused and stumped. I bought this bike off the previous owner who flat out sucked at maintaining it, long story short he just rode it hard and put it away wet. I replaced the air filter, sparkplug changed the oil "yes the filter is in the correct way lol" cleaned the throttle body for starters, the bike has intermittently made a clatter/rattle when first started with choke on somedays it would others it wont and it doesn't change when I pull in the clutch, but once it was warmed and choke is off it ran flawless. The noise is definitely in the top end so I furtherd my maintenance with a new timing chain and timing chain tensioner all parts replaced have been oem kawasaki branded parts also at this time I reshimed all the valves nothing was too tight or too loose no abnormal wear on the buckets and all springs looked great. The chain was beat and stiff and the tensioner had seen better days. I removed the spark plug and inserted my bore scope to check the piston to make sure no valves had been playing kissy face with the piston and sure enough they had not. The bike has great compression and usually fires on the first kick if not 2nd everytime. The noise has me concerned because over the past couple days it's gotten a tad bit noiser and is starting to stick out more upon first start up and lasting until warmed up, I've checked every nut and bolt and torqued everything to spec frame wise including motor mounts. I added a link below that is exactly how mine sounds maybe a little louder and is of the exact consistency "my phone is a piece of s***" I'm hoping it's not a failed wrist pin or bearing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've owned alot of 250fs and 450fs and this is the first one that has me stumped😡 https://www.reddit.com/user/The_Only_Coba
  6. Hey everyone, Picked up a 2006 kx450f with a fresh top and bottom end rebuild off a friend. New carburetor was bought off Ebay and installed. I've looked and it's got a 45 slow jet and a 180 main for the power bomb header and q4 slip on. Checked for plugged jets as well and none were. Can only stay running with choke on and with it that way it will hang sometimes forever sometimes. Choke pushed in while idling it stalls and with throttle input as it gets pushed it will only stay running with throttle. Get out of it at all and it dies and just wont start back up. I've tried the fuel adjustment on the bottom, the idle adjustment maxed in and it still wont run right. I have not verified timing or if it needs to be reshimmed, only has .6 hours on the meter that was installed just after rebuild. Backfires like crazy when snapping throttle shut and sometimes it bogs when free revving. New throttle cables and twist throttle put to be in spec as last one was hanging on by thread. Any ideas on what to look at next? I think I have the old carb from it but it's been robbed for parts. Supposedly started happening after this new one was put on. Should I buy an OEM one and try that?
  7. Last week I found a guy who was selling a 2008 kx450f that had no compression. I needed a winter project so I picked it up. Fortunately im able to get a deal on parts since my brother works at a Kawasaki dealership. While I was dismantling the engine last night I found the problem, the piston was cracked. It’s an easy fix to replace it but since I don’t know how many hours are on the motor I’ve decided to split the cases and completely clean the motor. I’ve never split cases before but I will be doing it at my brothers shop so I’m fairly confident. Heres my question though. At that point, which prices should I replace? Is it really necessary to rebuild/replace the crankshaft and bearings? Should the cam chain be replaced aswell? like I said, this bike is mostly just a winter project. I do intend to ride it in the local tracks abut next year to see if I enjoy it but I will likely flip it at the end of the season to get a new project. Thanks!
  8. Hey guys, I'm really stuck on this one. So I just picked up a 2014 Rmz250 and it will not kickstart cold but will kickstart when at normal operating temps. The only way I can start it is with the good old bump start method. Put in a brand new Ngk spark plug, new air filter, new 92 Oct fuel and still no luck.... took it apart and inspected the wires and they looked good. It is giving no spark to a very week one on cold engine. Anyone ever ran into such a weird issue? I bought it thinking I need to so a rebuild but I feel like it's probably running rich due to poor spark... let me know thanks
  9. So pretty much every 450 race bike made in the last 10 years makes anywhere from 50-60 horsepower. I have a 2006 Kx450f that makes a stock 56-58 horsepower. It's an older bike, but still no slouch. Alot of people say the 2007 Crf450r is the best carbureted 450 ever made... My question is, fuel-injected or carbureted, what year/make/model bike came with the best horsepower/torque numbers??? I know there are factors to being the fastest like rider skill, suspension type/set up, etc but which has the best engine numbers??? Let's hear what yall think?

  11. Hi new to this site. Ive just bought a cheap kx450f with what i thought would be a minor issue. I was told it was only running with the choke on and i thought easy fix, just a blocked jet. So i pulled it apart as must of the person before me and i find a broken soround thing that the plastic case sits on around the pilot jet. So i appoxy that back on unblock the jets and clean it all out, put it back together and now i try starting it for the first time and see the fuel dripping as it was when i bought it. When i look closer i see it is seeping from what looks like a crack in the float bowl. Ahhh So my problem is. Looking for a cheap carby might solve all my problems or just a float bowl at worse case. Now i can find many kx450f being wrecked nearby so im wondering are most 450 carbys the same? Will one of a yz450f work? Can someone please help

  14. Hey there. I have recently purchased a 2015 Kx450f. On doing my first oil change on it yesterday when I pulled the secondary 8mm m6 thread drain plug out a bit of thread cam out on the end of it. When putting it back in I tightened it very gently to see but it gets firm and just keeps turning. I am wondering if. 1. I should helicoil it but I’m not sure if doing that will put heaps of metal shavings in the case. Or if it would even work due to the bolt being only around 10mm max. 2. use a new bolt and put a gasket maker or blue max on it and tighten it til it’s firm then let it set. There’s a loctite brand black gasket maker which is oil resistant maybe that would work? does anyone have experience with either of these things, or have a better idea cheers guys
  15. So I am wanting to turn my 2006 Kx450f into a good trail bike. I have a done a little bit of research as to what some people do to their bikes. I could spend a ton of money on this, which I don't want to do, rather I want to build it in the most cost effective way, still using quality parts that are going to give me the best performance and comfort and durability. I know some people go to a heaver flywheel weight, some people use steering dampers/stabilizers. what do I need to do for suspension? Bike armor, I don't want to be breaking stuff on my bike because I dumped it or went over a side of a cliff...You get the point here 😉 What you did to your bike, and why you did it How it performs, based on a before and after experience of the upgrade That's just 2 general points of what I'm looking for, other tips are welcome if I missed something important Let the comments begin, and post a picture of your ride
