  1. Anyone from the area or ever ride up there? My wife is from Millbridge and he folks still live up there. I think we're heading up that way for 4 or 5 days in April. From what I gather the trail systems get the majority of use from ATVs and sleds in the winter. But, they seem like they could be a real good time. Well over 100 miles of trail and you can access all different towns, general stores, and gas stations. Let me know if your in the area or know anything about the area (regulations, rules, registration requirements, etc.). Thanks Jake
  2. I ride from the mexico area up till coos canyon and everywhere around there and wondering if there was any others on the forum that ride dirt bikes and are nearby. All i see is four wheelers there's got to be some other guys out there. Let me know
  3. Hi , I may be moving out to maine from california and was wondering what riding was like out there? i see theres a few tracks out there that are open in the summer months but what about when its snowing is there any indoor tracks close by within a few hours of portland? I heard of mototown thats about 3 hours i think from portland.. thankss for any info

  5. Any dual sport folks in or around Portland Maine to ride and talk shop with? Thanks. Jethro.
  6. G'day everyone, We invite you to follow the link below to our website to check out the group photos from the recent DirtWise Riding schools held in Sumner, ME and Wrentham, MA. Such a sensational weekend in Maine where everyone really pushed themselves to maximize their learning, especially with the grinding and corner ruts! Massachusetts gave us some enjoyable weather and we had a lot of fun skills exercises that the students excelled at, which included the oval and brake slide exercises. Many thanks to all who attended and we hope to see you out on the trails again soon! If you happened to miss out this time around and are interested in attending a future DirtWise school in this area, send us an email to dirtwise@shanewatts.com so we can contact you directly with updates. http://www.shanewatts.com/photos/School Cheers, Shane Watts dirtwise@shanewatts.com
  7. Dose anyone know if the trails behind hemmonds are open to the public at times other than races such as Jdays? There website dosent say anything about the trails
  8. I am heading up to the Ellsworth Bar Harbor area next week and I would love to get out on the dirtbikes. Is there anyone that can help out? If there is someone in the area that knows the trails and wants join us that would be even better. PM me or just post an answer. Thanks for the help!!
  9. I am trying to find out how the trail riding is at Rangeley Lake in Maine we are planning a end of August. I ride a bike and the other three people would be on quads and would prefer easier type of riding I like it all including single track if there is any. So I have a couple of questions is a riding permit required, do they allow quads and bikes, are the trail marker well or is a GPS needed? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  10. Does anyone know of any trails still open in Maine
  11. Anywhere in Southern Maine to trailer and ride out of? I drive through the area often, and see bikes and trails all the time but dont know of anywhere specific to ride out of. Looking to go for a day trip this Sat. Any help is much appreicated. Thanks
  12. Anyone live in or around Portland Maine to get together with and ride and talk shop?
  13. How's it going all, first time post-er here, I'm away at work (merchant marine) but secured a 2012 leftover wr250f from my dealer in Maine a week ago. I DON'T recommend doing this, as I have too much time now to think, dream, ponder, etc. without having picked up the bike! At the same time, I think i have a good plan layed out: 1. all free mods. gray wire, airbox, throttle stop, exh. baffle...... 2. GYTR ais removal 3. fmf powerbomb header, powercore 4 muffler 4. merge racing APS and FMS 5. twin air filter? k&n? 6. yz cam timing.... for '12 is it the directions from thumperfaq plus grinding down the compression release pin? those instructions look to be 9 years old or more 7. jd jetting kit to do last, once everything else is done I plan on riding the thing completely stock for a week or two once I bring her home so that I can see what I'm working with and get familiar with the small power-robbing things I read about on here. I'm wondering if you experts could throw in your 2 cents and give me some pointers. This will be my first foray into off roading of the 2-wheel variety. The bike will be bound for the woods, logging roads, anything off road in Maine but I have zero plans to ever compete. That said, I LOVE horsepower, am a novice in the dirt bike world but a competent road biker, and I'm fairly handy with a set of tools as a tug boat engineer by trade. Anything else you need to know?? Thanks in advance and may I say this is my new favorite site, Thumper Talk reads like a Bourne novel!! Thank you. -Ben
  14. I have a few good friends in San Diego that I've ridden Baja with and would love to come to New England to see what our terrain is like. To that end, and knowing what they are used to riding as far as trips to the desert goes, I've been trying to find some sort of loop or yo-yo in the range of 200-250 miles. Knowing there is probablly nothing like that in southern New England, I've begun looking into the possibilities in Maine or even Canada. Since the guys from San Diego might ship their bikes (i.e. unplated CRF450X, CRF450R, WR250F), we are looking to stay off-road almost exclusively. Based on that last constraint, my research lead me to the ME ATV trail system. It sounds like as long as you have a ME ATV permit (i.e. even for plated bikes), you can ride on 90% of the ATV trail system they have developed and you don't need to worry about having a DOT legal bike. As far as lodging, we were considering finding a hotel or lodge to use as a home base, ride out and return each to this location each day. The other thought is to see if we can get someone to drive a chase truck and meet us at predetermined locations with our gear...where we could either spend the night at a local hotel / lodge or camp. Does anyone have suggestions for the proposed trip? Any specific areas in ME or Canada or elsewhere that might support this type of ride? Any contacts or clubs I could investigate? Thanks in advance!!!
  15. 10/17/08 UPDATE! I posted more photos on page 2. Not all pictures are on page 1. I will constantly be adding more photos as I go along. Many of you have heard of my starting/idle problems with the 610. Carburetion has been ruled-out time and time again. I sensed something else was going on. The engine has never wanted to idle down, sounded like there was a load on it even in neutral. Since I had metal filings in my oil when I first got it, I have now decided to overhaul it and make everything ship-shape. It turns out that I was correct- there is some valve damage that I will talk about later. I don't like to take apart dirty engines and get the dirt inside 'em A little gross. My cleaning station: A little better now Clutch removal: after removing springs bottom of pressure plate everything looked decent as far as wear after removing plates basket after removing hub Area after removing basket. Removing the starter gear with snap ring pliers More to come. I'm uploading pictures of the case splitting, etc... I'll try to ease off on the photo-over-obsession. The next batch of info/photos will be a little more interesting. Comments and suggestions are appreciated. I'm already ordering parts from George so before I know it, I'll be just waiting on new parts (after a little more cleaning.
  16. Looking for trails in the NE area, as much dirt as possible to get me from PA up to the northern tip of Maine...looking to camp along the trail....and hit some little towns along the way for supplies and fuel. Any suggestions, advice and knowledge would be very helpful thanks! p.s. light ADV setup DRZ400s
  17. So central maine power just did a wonderful job clear cutting the powerlines in southern maine. I live boardering the powerlines and it would make a great place to go for some quick laps every once in a while. Someone cut a bushwacked trail with a pushmower on the lowest setting and they have ben riding a mountain bike on it, but I'm thinking I'll get into legal trouble with a loud dirtbike on it. I know farther north in eliot (most sourthern town in Maine) people ride snowmobiles on the power lines. I'm not sure if thats legal either though. Anybody have any experience or advice on riding on the central maine power lines?
  18. Recently coming off a tib/fib fracture and a broken ankle. also i just got out of the marine corps and its been 4 years since riding in maine. Any good spots. Pits? Dunes? not looking for tracks. I just want to get back on the pipe first.

Something like sand pits, private track, etc. Currectly I ride one sand pit in the Auburn and it's getting kinda boring. Just looking for a new place to ride. Other sand pits are good.
  20. got a kid that's just starting to ride? i'm hosting a weekend camp and ride event, no pressure, just some coaching, basics stuff really, maybe an adult ride later on, bring your own camping gear and food, more info on thread of the same name in northeast reagional forum on advrider, oh ya its gonna be june 19th and 20th, with a rain date of the following weekend, see yaw there, pm me for more
  21. Going up to Lagrange, Maine for Father's Day weekend with wife and friends and bringing quads and dirt bikes. Doing this sinstead of Laconia due to same old scenery in NH year after year. I have been researching lodging between Lagrange and Moosehead or Lagrange and Katahdan Mountain, and yeas I know did not spell it correctly, without success. Does anyone know of a lodge for a one night stay with a lounge? We wouold like a decent meal and cold beer upon our arrival and a good nights rest before heading back to Lagrange. willing to ride up to 3 hours. Anybody????
  22. Hey guys, I’ve been trying to find legal riding spots in southern Maine. I live in MA so looking for places fairly close. I’ve contacted a few riding clubs, some have said no bikes allowed on their trails and others have said something like “ya there’s plenty of places, i’ll see if I can find a map” and haven’t been clear about where these places are or any info on trails. I used to ride at Abbott mountain (in Shapleigh I think) with friends like ten years ago but I don’t remember where the staging area was. I have the Maine state atv map, which basically tells you to contact clubs. And I can’t find any info about riding spots online. Can anyone recommend a few spots within 1.5hrs or so from MA? New Hampshire makes it easy to find areas, Maine not so much. Any help would be great guys!
  23. I raced at Hemonds MX in Minot, ME yesterday. I've been there before and I know it's a great track, but it was amazing yesterday. The dirt was perfect. I love the natural terrain layout. Big uphills and downhills. It's a really long track, too. Maybe over a mile. I entered one class, but after the first moto I had to add a 2nd. It was well worth it. I've been to Etown, Walden, Diamondback, MX207 and a bunch of others. I think Hemonds is the best. If you've never been there, I hghly recommend it. It's kinda far, but worth the trip!
  24. I am staying in wells maine for the week.my friend is coming up on Tuesday with our dualsport bikes.i use to ride atvs in hollis. Don't know the rules for bikes
  25. I live in Augusta, i was wondering if there are any trails around here. I rode a bunch of trails around my home town penobscot maine. And i race at mx207 and hemonds. I love riding trils though and in pits also. Is there any around here or anyone who wants to show me?? lol i know we just had a storm a few days ago and i hope it leaves soon. Has anybody around here been riding?
