  1. Hey guys, I've had my 2019 RM-Z250 for about 6 weeks now and really like it! Did a little review write up in that section. Power is Awesome! Plenty of low end to pull me out of the corners with a strong mid-range and I'm pretty happy with the way it revs out....!! Not quite enough power (anywhere) to keep pace with the 450s which is most of my competition in the vet classes.... Hence, The Build!! Got 2 TX Winter series races (with my Sweet electrical tape #7, til MXGurl makes up some trick graphics) in to break things in and get a feel for the bike and where I need to go with our mods! I'm at 175 to 180 lbs in my street clothes. Vet A rider. Pretty fast (got a moto podium at LL17 on my '03 YZ125; 2 moto podiums at LL18 on my '17 250SX 50+) Started racing in '75 and have been testing bikes since '84. JM Racing did some suspension valving and re-springing to make it race worthy for my weight and nailed it!! Suspension is working awesome, a little fine tuning and it'll be Perfect! Bike was pretty stiff from the factory!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Forks: We went from the stock .51 to .46. Tried .48s but the front end wouldn't settle in the corners for me, .46s hold it up and allow the bike stay in the corner. Shock: We went form the stock 5.3 to a 4.7. Everything heavier wouldn't allow for the enough Free Sag..... I'm at 104mm Race sag and 37mm Free sag right now. Bike has a nice balance now and JM lightened up the valving on the front quite a bit and a little on the rear. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Magazines were right about the stiffness, but missed the mark on the rest of the bike! Handles great and the power is super usable! I've always thought that the goal was to get around the track as fast as possible for several laps...??? The Suzuki does that Great!!
  2. I’m looking to buy a full exhaust system for my 2018 rmz 250. I’ve been looking mostly at the yoshimura rs-4 but am unsure if they make a model that will fit my bike (2018 susuki rmz 250). Has anyone done this? Any better pipes for performance across the board? Thanks in advance!
  3. I’m 14 and my rm85 smokes so much and my power valve is making a lot of rattling noise. I took off the cover and it had a lot of black residue and there was a puddle of it under my power valves and so I cleaned it with contact cleaner and took out the power valves and looked at them and they had little scores on the top and some (but not too much) carbon on the top and bottom sides. So I cleaned them off and put some oil on them and popped them back in and I started it with the cover off and they were barely doing anything except for rattle I got along with EVERYTHING else. The previous owner honed it out and it is nikasil so idk if that has anything to to with it smoking of not but I haven’t had the chance to go get it replated because I don’t have $250. I ran it all sorts of ratios and the manual said to run it 30:1 but when I run it 50:1 it still smokes a lot and way too much and I use motorx oil. I’ll add a video on YouTube and copy and paste the link here.
  4. I got a 2004 rnz250, and I got the thing very cheap. When we took it apart we found there were a couple things missing in the head: the timing chain tensioner and one of the cam caps. Can I just buy a cam cap somewhere? Do I need a whole new head? Does anyone have parts for one of these?
  5. Hey guys I recently bought a new to me 2006 rmz250 that's needing rebuilt. I'm ending up having to put a head on it with all new valve train stuff also. I'm just having a hard time deciding whether I should go with titanium or stainless steel valves possibly even a mix of the two like on the Hondas. I was just hoping to hear from anybody to see there experience on this matter.
  6. So I've had some trouble with the manual cam chain tensioner coming loose and throwing the engine out of time. But recently I was riding it at a steady 45mph pace, and it started to sputter and lose power until it died and the lower end locked up and skidded. Put it in neutral and rolled it home. Took the valve cover off and sure enough, it was out of time. But I also took the stator cover off and found a bunch of large ferrous metal shavings, and a dent in my flywheel that I don't know if it was there before, or not. The metal and plastic faces on the stator are slightly chewed up as well. Got it back in time, and it still has tons of compression, but no spark. Any help is appreciated!
  7. Hello all! I recently picked up a 13 RMZ-250 that has a crack in one of the cases. I have been looking around at replacement options and found a set of 2014 cases. I checked the part numbers and they are different, but the cases look virtually identical. Does anybody know if the 2014+ cases fit on a 10-13 RMZ250?
  8. Is there any way to run a diagnostic test on a 2018 Rmz 450? I have no spark bike shut down on me in the air.
  9. The answer is plainly, no. Always remember to block your air boot when cleaning your air filter! My '15 rmz250 had been stalling out at random times during my last ride, so I run through what I think could be the issue. Was my ECU not mapped correctly, idle set too high or low, is my airbox not sealed anymore? I decide to take the airbox out last week and order a new seal, thinking I have the problem addressed. Fast forward to today as I anxiously await the UPS driver to deliver said seal, I decide for "grins" to look inside the engine with the throttle held wide open.. To my surprise I see an unintended modification.. So yeah, in case you were wondering, a washer that is stuck in your intake does in fact not improve performance! You're welcome. Luckily I have a T-handle spring pulling tool and a flex magnet pick up tool, and was able to remove the washer with a little help from my wife to hold the throttle open. No deformation on the washer at all, so I assume that I am good to go. If someone disagrees with me, please let me know as I'm obviously not the best mechanic. Cheers, and remember to block those pathways when working on your air filter, you may not be as lucky as me.
  10. I recently purchased a secondhand RMZ 250 2004 and it has had trouble kick starting ever since I got it. I drained gas, I cleaned the carb, The oil is fine, I changed the air filter and i changed the spark plug and it is still super hard to get started. Has anyone had the same problem and can give me some advice?
  11. I have a fuel injected rmz250 that sputters at very low rpms, it cuts on and off a little but mid and high rpms it runs like a beast. I have a tuner, so do I need to lean out or richen the low end?
  12. I’m in a pickle between these two bikes, they have them priced for the same, and they are both fuel injected. The rmz is spotless and kept in this girls house. The ktm is also very clean but not as much as the Suzuki. The rmz has an fed exhaust on it. I don’t know which bike I should get, they both have rekluse clutches, and I Do trail riding, ramping, and road riding so I like to be able to go fast. Which one should I get? Pictures are below.
  13. I just put a rekluse in and changed the engine oil and rode it around last night. I get up this morning too it off with gas and it won’t start! It ran perfect last night, and now all of a sudden it won’t start. I can tell it’s trying to because when I hold the kill switch it just dies instantly but without it it bumps a little like it wants to start. Could someone please help me out.
  14. Hello, I have an 06 RMZ450. Great bike with tons of extras. I'm new to 4 strokes and having fun so far. Here are a few questions: My 06 has a backfire on decel issue. It backfires only once after the bike is reved on deceleration. Visible flame out the silencer. Is a backfire the same and a decel pop? I'm thinking I need to replace the springs that hold the manifold pipe tight up against the cylinder. My theory is a good Rev is pushing the manifold pipe away from the cylinder just enough that when I let off the throttle (decel) it allows excess air in due to weak springs and so it backfires. The manifold pipe just pulls out away from the cylinder easily. Or because maybe I am missing a seal between the manifold and the cylinder? Or because I should have a seal between the manifold and silencer tube? Another idea is I have a small crack in my silencer tube all the way back at a bend bear the cannister. The bike has Pro Circuit exhaust (not sure what style but has spark arrestor) and Boysen Quick shot. I have adjusted the air and fuel screws to the point where the bike is snappy on throttle, no hanging idle or bog. It has a new CR8E plug and I'm running non ethanol 92 with some octane booster.
  15. Hi guys, first post here and looking for a bit of info. Would a 2009 RMZ 250 take a straight swap of a 2009 RMZ 450 motor? Thanks, Jamie
  16. Hey guys so I just bought this blown up 250 and just put in a new top and bottom end. I just got it all back together and nothing happens. I have made sure it has spark, I bought a new fuel injector so it has fuel and fuel pump works great, Timing is set to the manuals standards, idle screw is set to 36 clicks counter clockwise and still nothing happens, I can kick and kick and nothing. I have a compression tester coming Saturday but it’s very tight so i dont know the issue plz help
  17. Tearing into my 14 rmz 250 to check valve clearances and replace piston. Bought this bike knowing the kid hardly did any maintenance at all. Has around 60 hours on it as of now and starts a little rough so I figured I’d check everything out. The spark plug, piston and valves have some serious build up on them and was wondering what this is from and if I should replace the valves?
  18. I have a 2010 rmz250 EFI and I noticed a little smoke coming out of a hole in my header pipe, I will fix the header pipe soon, but I took the gas tank off and took the ignition coil out and there is oil on it and on the plug. Is there a bad seal, or something else?
  19. I have a megabomb for my 07 rmz 250 and I was wondering If i would have to rejet my carb in order to use it? Sea level elevation outside temperature 45-65. Thanks
  20. Just wondering if anyone knows the thread pattern on the clutch nut For my 2004 rmz250 is it right or left to unscrew it! Thanks
  21. Need help! I recently bought a 2004 RMZ 250 that wasn’t running, for cheap. (Bad year for these bikes, I know). I put on a new head with kibblewhite valves and new piston rings. After I got everything together it fired within 5 kicks. It had a high idle and I went to adjust it, I turned it down a little and then the bike died. The bike ran for a total of 10 seconds and then wouldn’t crank after it died. So I took the spark plug out and put it in the coil to test for spark and nothing. After I let it sit for an hour or two it’ll fire right up but then dies soon after. I have replaced the spark plug, the ignition coil with a new OEM one and the CDI box with a new OEM one. After replacing all of that I can start the bike fine cold and idle perfect and I can ride it for about 5 minutes but then it’ll die when I’m coasting, it then loses spark again. Sometimes I can tap the new CDI box and the spark will come back. Now I don’t know if the new one is bad too but I’ve checked all the grounds and connectors on the wire harness and they are clean and connected good. I did disconnect the kill switch and it’s still doing the same thing. One thing I have not checked or replaced is the stator. Any help would be appreciated! Sorry if this isn’t in the right forum area.
  22. Got my first ride in yesterday and wanted to start a thread to help keep some life going in the Suzuki forum here! I'll post up some photo's of the bike as it currently sits and updates with what I find throughout my experience with the bike. Planning to race Enduro style event's on it and ride various terrain from MX to Woods. Rider; Pro level off road racer in Canada with experience in Endurocross, Desert, MX ect. Mr. Do it all that's been doing at all on a Husky FX350 for the last few years. I wanted a change, and besides Beta, nothing really sparked my interest to much. I know this bike is not the ideal off road weapon, and I can already tell it will suffer in the slower technical terrain, but if I decide to ride an RMZ in Erzberg level terrain, that's on me. Without further ado, the yellow steed:
  23. I've got a 2008 rmz450 and I was wondering if the newer maping couplers from the 2010 and above would work and change the settings? They didn't make them for the 08 do I didn't know if they were compatable or if they would mess up the programming. Thanks for any help!
  24. Hey guys, new here. I recently bought a 08 rmz450. Pretty much stock besides stage one cam and the power flow kit by twin air. What other mods are a must for this bike. Mostly ride on my buddys land but hoping to get some track time in once I get everything dialed in. Need help with suspension settings too. Bike seems a lil tall for me considering I’m 5’6” and 140 pounds. Anyways any tips or ideas would be great. If you’ve got a rmz post pics! Like to see what my potential is with this 12 year old bike haha. Thanks. 🙂
  25. So I just bought a 2011 RMZ 250. Everything checked out. Havent gone on a ride yet (cant get into the dmv to get it registered 😡) but I did basic maintenance like change oil, spark plug, chain, etc. Last night I noticed coolant was a little low so I just drained it and put in new 50/50 coolant. Started it up let it run for a bit shut it off and was ready to go inside. Then I heard a noise coming from the lower end of the bike, like a gurgling or hissing sound.. My buddy started it again and shut it off. Again after 20 sec after the bike was shut off it made that noise. We started it a few more times and it did the same thing after each one. I thought it was coming from the clutch area where he thought water pump area. Just seems odd to make noise so long after turning it off. Any ideas??
