    1st Bike just love it
  2. hi there, I recently bought the ricky stator ltz400 stator after having seen a post confirming that after soldering the old harness on the new stator worked. unfortunately, after I completed my work, the bike no longer starts. im really not sure where to start. I unplugged the connector with the blue/green/white/grey wires from the box under the seat, and managed to test the blue/green resistance at 0.52 on whatever resistance scale my meter was on. I did not test the black/white wires. the battery is fully charged, the main fuse is intact, the starter runs strongly, the bike just doesnt fire.. it ran fine before taking it apart, so im sure i've messed up the job somewhere along the line. Im going to recheck to make sure I didnt reverse some wires along the way. That cloth insulation is annoying, I finally ended up using an exacto knife to carefully trim it off. thanks, David Mitchell Austin, TX 01 drz400s 78 r100/7
  3. Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum, so please excuse me if I am not following standard protocols. I consider myself fairly mechanically inclined, but this bike is stumping me and I would appreciate any help this forum can give. The bike is a 1987 XL600r with 9k miles I purchased a few months back...I know it's not an XR, but I assumed it was close enough for this forum. Carburetors, exhaust, spark plug and air box are all stock. I went through pretty much all the maintenance checkpoints, per the Clymer manual when I purchased and she was running great. The bike would start pretty easy and seemed to make really good power…the only issue was that the charging system was not working, so the battery would die and I would lose power to my lights after a while. Long story long – I purchased a new stator from Ricky Stator, an aftermarket reg/rec from ebay and a new AGM battery. After I installed the new stator the bike would bog down when trying to accelerate...assuming it was a bad stator from Ricky I had them send me another (after I confirmed that my old stator did not produce that problem by installing again). Imagine my surprise when the same issue occurred with the New New stator…I’m at my wits end. No one at Ricky stator has heard of this issue before. To recap, the bike ran fine with the old stator and old reg/rec and it ran fine with the old stator and new reg/rec after I took the first new stator off. With the new stator on it will idle and once the second carburetor kicks in it will rev high. The problem is around ¼ throttle - right before the secondary kicks in it will bog down and stall. I am basically unable to get it out of gear from a stop. Is it possible that I would need to adjust the carbs or spark gap or basically re-tune the bike now that I’ve gotten a new stator??? It’s really weird. If I didn’t know better I would think it was a carb issue or some sort of lack of fuel. Thanks again for any help.
  4. Does anyone know if I can fit a 250 stator to a 125 if they are the same years? (00 - 02)

    1991 Stator Question

I just bought a 91' RM250 and I was told all it needed was a new Stator. So I got one and I tried to kick it over and nothing. I got a new stator, new spark plug and the wire looks good. Did I put the stator on the wrong way. Is there a wrong way to put it on? Thanks for reading. attachment=196891:ImageUploadedByThumper Talk1415675400.458479.jpg]

    The Dizzer is Dead

My stator cover made love to a rock coming down the highway. Resulted in a nice crunching sound and a rearwheel lock up at about 70. I went through insurance and the bike has now been totaled, but I bought the bike from the insurance company with plans to part it out. What I am wondering from people who have done this before, what did you part out, assuming the engine is dead? I just put in a new racetech rear spring, fork spings and cartridge fork emulators. Also, in the past month, added a DRZ Edge taillight and flashers and have not-been-installed relay. Other than that, everything is stock. So what parts should I start breaking out to sell? It's a 2000 DRZ 400s with 12k on the clock.

If you are strong enough, and play with the clutch enough, it can do everything except MX/SX.
  10. I don't ride much during the summer due to COPD and asthma it's just too damn hot. I would like to start riding at night when it cools off more like 60* instead of 90* . Any suggestions on a light setup and stator to run them. No cheap chinese stuff . Actually thought of getting a light and housing off an old XR or something , but i'm sure there are better looking and brighter setups out there with the LED's. Wanting it for my CR250 .

    2014 crf250r "no spark"

As title states a 2014 crf250r with 14.7 hours will not spark or run. I will try and explain each step I took in determining to find the problem so sorry for the long post. In preparation of pulling the motor from the frame to do some motor mods and reprogram computer I wash the bike real good, dried it off then ran the bike for a few minutes which I always do after washing. The next day I removed all the plastic and preceded to disconnect stator and other wire connectors in order to pull the motor. While the motor was out I cleaned out all the wire connectors and made sure they were cleaned before they were re connected. Once motor work was complete, after about a month, it was re installed and all wire connecters were re connected. Tried kicking the bike and no start, pulled the bike and no start. I then removed plug and verified no spark. Thinking the computer may have gotten screwed up after the remap I took it to my buddies Honda shop and installed it on a brand new 14' and the bike fired up and ran fine. Computer good. Now I'm thinking the stator went bad. I borrowed a friends 10' crf250r pulled my stator off and put it on the 10' and bike fired up and ran fine. Stator good. According to the wiring diagram and as for as I know the 10' and 14' basically have the same electrical system except for the computer, coil size, regulator and some connections are different. Next I took my regulator off the 14' hard wired it in because its a little different and the 10' fired up and ran fine. Regulator good. Next I pulled off the condenser, wired it in (different connector) and the 10' ran fine. Condenser good. Next I pulled the coil and plug wire off, grounded it with 1 screw because of size difference and the 10' ran fine. Coil and wire good. Now every major electrical component is showing to be good. Next step I checked the kill switch for a closed circuit, then a open/closed circuit while hitting the stop button and it passed that test. I then checked continuity from just about every wire connector to the computer pins and they all showed continuity. I checked the main frame ground with a ground tester and it showed a good ground. I reconnected all my electrical parts to my 14' and I still can't get a spark, tried the 10' spark plug and still no spark. Put the 10' stator and flywheel on and still no spark. Re pulled all the connections and re connected and looked over the harness for any visual damage and still no FN spark. The only other electrical parts I didn't swap out is the MAP sensor, water temp sensor, TPS sensor and air temp sensor but im not sure that would hold out the bike from sparking ? Even though I checked continuity on the main harness that is really the only thing I didn't swap out. Can a wire show continuity but still break down once voltage is passing through it ? I have never seen anything like this before !!! Im def not an electrical engineer but I have a basic understanding how it works. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated, unless the bike is just possessed!!!!! Again sorry for the long post, I just wanted to show you guys every step I took before you comment.

    another damned stator

****edited, updated**** this is the old issue: ****************** ****************** bought the drz august of last year. stator failed, or was failing at time of purchse. replaced stator mileage 8500 or so. today, oil changed, burnt smell from oil. milage 11968 (12000). stator has failed again. never overheated, oil and filter changed religiously at or before 1,000 miles. went for a short ride, and the battery discharged completely at some point. bump started, rode home. i've contacted rickystator to see if they'll honor the purchase, and diagnose the failure if i ship it to them at my expense. i'll update as there is progress. -aggrevated ********************** ********************** rickystator id'd the stator as their own from my emailed picture, while on the phone with me. they shipped a replacement on tuesday, and it was in my mailbox today (thursday) when i got home. no questions, no paying for postage (which I offered both ways), no problems. this, is customer service. slapped in the new stator, 12.9V key on, not running, 14V running. excellent

    Stator rewind by Ricky Stator

sent my stator to ricky stator to have it rewind, has anyone else done this? has anyone had any problems after installing it? thanks........
  14. Seems like the vendors that did no longer do and that the ones that still claim to are shrouded in mystery. Someone also said something to me about using a Suzuki quad stator on a Suzuki bike. No idea about that.
  15. i picked up this bike and it ran, sort of, i had to roll it down a hill to get it started and i drove it up the street and on the way back it died on me, i figured it was the bad gas or it was out (there was only a splash in it and it was old), got it home and cleaned the carb and put fresh gas in it and nothing, took the spark plug out and no spark, put a different ignition coil on it and nothing, had an extra cdi box laying around and i trired that and nothing, leaving me to beleive its the stator, does anyone know the specs so i can test it, or if you think it is something else, any and all help is very appreciated!

    Ricky stator vs. ebay stator?

My stator died, so I ordered a new one and installed it last night. Everyone says go with Ricky stator, but I couldn't see paying $250 for a drz stator. So I found one on ebay that sounded alright and was only $104 shipped. But really, what are the differences? Have many people been burned by faulty aftermarket stators? This is the one I bought: http://www.ebay.com/...984.m1497.l2649

This street-legal 2004 XR400 is a bullet-proof, trail-riding tractor, with no radiator to bash in, valves that never need regapping, and after adding a Mikuni pumper carb, the perfect trail-bike that can be brapped over logs and rocks, and ridden in whatever gear happens to be handy. And just because I love it so much, I change the oil about once a year. Starts on first kick after pumping the starter to TDC and if I can remember not to touch the throttle at all (pumper carb easily floods engine otherwise).

    Crispy Stator

So I have read the Charging system diagnoses thread and performed some tests. I must admit that I have good mechanical knowledge but my electrical skills are lacking. Looking for some reinforcement here. Battery is good. Voltage at idle around 13+v. Voltage at batt does not increase to 14- 14.5 at 3000 RPM. AC voltage @3000 good across 2 yellow, only 40v or so across the other 1 yellow. Pulled the cover and saw a blackened winding on one of the coils. It wiped off easily and made visible bare copper wire. Stator toast? See pics. Thanks in advance! P.S. You may also notice the milky looking oil inside the case. That explains where my coolant was going as well. More work ahead...

    Ricky Stator?

I have a failed stator. Been looking around for a replacement. I found a replacement from a company called Ricky Stator. The price for the unit is very reasonable, $125. Anybody have any feedback on this part? Thanks in advance, Mitch

When I bought it, there was a LOT of work needed to get it started and keep it running. But with some TLC (carb rebuild), multiple parts replaced, and rewiring for lights) I've been able to turn it from a potentially great bike into an excellent bike to take on trails and the roads. Technical track riding is not my style, but this bike would be right at home there. Overall, this will be in my collection for a long, long time.
