  1. I picked up a rm250 a few months back for cheap missing carb needed stator missing coil and CDI box needed a kicker and stuff. Long story short I put case seals in it went though and inspected everything put it all together and got it running with an old Mikuni 125cc carb. I parked the bike for awhile (other projects) it’s summer time and I have time to work on the bike again. Put a bigger carb on it mounted the plastics rode it around etc. But I’m having issues figuring out what year it is. Here’s what’s got me stumped. It’s got a blue seat that goes onto the gas tank it says RM so I know it’s right for the bike the air box also has “RM” holes for air. I think it might be the RT version? Does anyone know if the air holes were stock? Or if that’s the stock seat? Also if anyone could tell me what kind of bars theses are that would be great this bike IS water cooled (just missing one of the rads)
  2. Hey guys, newbie here. I have been trawling through thumper talk for years for help and info reading through others forums. I decided to start a profile as I have just picked up a little 1992 Suzuki RM125 for a lockdown project over the coming weeks. The bike is in usual rough condition, plenty of stripped bolts, elcectrical tape/cable ties, evidence of zero maintenance over the last 10 years. On the plus side the tyres are next to new & the engine/motor seems to be pretty strong top&bottom end wise. I have a problem where just after the power valve opens, there is a bad surging/spluttering/coughing that doesn’t clear out. The bike seems to be overfuelling and running way too rich with trails of premix behind me. Now when I first got the bike the carb was messed up (Mikuni TM 35) it started first kick with or without choke & wouldn’t idle, still had good lower/mid power but stuttering up top. I’ve dropped the pilot jet from 50 to 45 and have the needle clip in the 2nd position, the bike starts and idles perfect now and crisp up until the top end where it still splutters. There is a 330 main jet in at the minute but I have tried as low as a 270 and the bike is still crazy rich with the nasty splutter/smoke. Crank seals are okay, not loosing any transmission oil. Reeds are perfect. Not sure what else to check? Im thinking it might be an electrical problem instead of overfuelling. I bought a new spark plug & swapped the coils from my dads RMX250 & it seems a little better but maybe it’s in my head. I think it’s not sparking up in the high rpm to burn off the fuel? It does kind of feel like a rev limiter kicks in just as the power valve opens. Could it be the CDI unit? I’m completely stumped. Hopefully someone can help me out. Thanks folks :)
  3. Alright enough bullcrap. I'm gonna buy a two stroke because they are fun. I'm gonna ride it everywhere including the track. Performance aside, what is the single most reliable 2 stroke dirt bike EVER made? Is their any bike that I wont have to put a top end in every year? (Assuming I'm not an idiot who overrevvs it everywhere.)
  4. I getting to the point where I need to replace the crank in my ‘89 Cr250. I cannot find one for that year. Are there any that will work? I saw something about a 92-01 crank but didn’t go into details.
  5. Hi, I'm new to the forums! I'm looking at buying a dirtbike in a few months and not sure what to get. This will be the first dirtbike I've ever owned but I'm an intermediate rider from riding peoples' bikes every so often. I'm 5'9 184lbs and I'm looking at a 2stroke because of easier and cheaper maintainance and you can't go wrong with the powerband. I'm looking at getting an 85 either yz, rm, or kx. Most of the riding a plan on doing is ripping around in a field and occasionally some trail riding, nothing hardcore. Would an 85 be a decent choice? Thanks
  6. Did a top end and right side crank seal put it all back together and the fuel pours out of carb on overflow tube when riding full throttle then stopping. Rebuilt the carb, pours constantly. Its been apart 12 times cleaning and checking float level amd i just dont know what to do
  7. I ordered a set of going racing radiator hose from eBay. I don't know the size of hose clamps to get. Can someone with experience tell me. Are they same as stock or what. Thanks
  8. Hey guys, I recently got my cylinder re sleeved. The head was also in very very bad shape, so the mechanic fixed that also. It had lots of deep gouges and scratches. The piston now hits the head before it can reach top dead center so the kickstart will not move. I don’t know what to do, can anyone help?
  9. So I got a new to me 2007 rm85. I took it to the shop to have the fork seals done and they tell me the forks are destroyed inside. So I had to order a new set on eBay. The set I got on eBay turn out to be for a kx85 and the bottom triple tree has a gap of about .25mm. So my question is, what should I do? Do I buy a kx triple tree? Do I buy ANOTHER set of rm85 forks off eBay? Or is there something I can do to jimmy rig it. i traded a perfectly good running dirt bike for this hunk of turd and now I’m already $500 deep in new spokes, truing the front wheel, wheel bearings, fork seals, forks and, labor. So a budget minded idea would be nice but anything is useful because I feel totally boned.
  10. So I bought a 99 Rm250 and am in the process of changing the fork seals. They seals I got made for that year bike don’t fit. I’m assuming the person I bought it off of maybe put on different forks. Can anyone help?
  11. On my dirt bike I can pull the clutch in and rev and it will move slightly when in gear. Also, it rolls forward a significant amount when kick-starting in first gear with the clutch pulled in. Also it is very hard to roll around in gear with the clutch pulled in. The clutch is adjusted correctly
  12. On my 1999 kx 250 the wheel spins perfectly but it is not centered on the swingarm it is about 1/2 an inch away on the left and about 1 inch on the right. How do I fix this.
  13. Hey guys new to this stuff but am looking for some advice.. so here we go, 2 days ago I brought a yr 2000 rm125 supposed to be running, pick it up at around 10pm so was unable to start it at the time of night " no biggi* now's where the problems start. I pulled the bike off the trailer in the morning kicked 100x with 100 swear words finally fired up for about 3 second and again dead I have (new plug, new coil, cleaned carb and filter, also tryd another carb) now for the super bad news .. after no luck with the following^^^ I remove carb and Reed block to discover about a coffee cup worth of oil in the crack shaft chamber (below piston not above) and not just a thin trace of oil like I mean alot, I kick the bike over oil is spitting out where the reeds should be located. Does this sound like a damaged crank seal. Remember guys I'm after some advice and any is appreciated thanks
  14. Hey guys. I have a 1996 rm 125 and I am taking apart the top end currently. Been riding the bike for a while and been thinking my Powervalve might be need to be cleaned because I really have to wait for the powerband to kick in. I took apart the linkage cover to discover that the actuating arm is fairly easy to move even with my finger. On other bikes I noticed that you really had to pull on the arm to put it back into place and it wouldn't turn with just your finger. I haven't taken it all the way apart yet as I might find more problems I might need help with but I have attached what I am talking about. Let me know if anyone has any info. Thanks!
  15. On my 89 Cr250 it loads up a lot and fouls plugs, I adjusted the jetting and it still does it, which isn’t a problem it was really rich and needs to go leaner, the problem is I could be lugging it through the woods where I can feel it loading up, then take it down a wide trail where I should be able to clear it out and I will go down the road and then suddenly it bogs and stalls like it fouled out when it should be clearing out.
  16. Hello I’m wondering about setting the sag on my 04 RM 125,btw I’m 14 years old, 5’4 and 126 pounds and the sag on the bike right now is about 65mm and I wanted to know what it should be set too
  17. Hi total newbie to motorbikes. picked up a second hand RM85 the other day. Kicks over fine. But when hold the clutch and put it in gear it goes into gear (I can feel a little clunk) but when I let the clutch out nothing happens. In any gear. On the stand you can click it through the gears and feel the resistance in the wheel but again it won’t drive the wheel. Had the clutch off, took out the plates and springs and all looks ok. No obvious issues. Checked the thickness of the plates and springs and they are all within tolerance. Any ideas??? Thanks Jeremy
  18. Bought a used 2007 rm250. I was working on replacing the chain and I can't get the axle/wheel correctly aligned straight. On the right side of the axle where the knut tightens, there is no block like there is on the opposite side where the chain tightening/alignment bolt pushes against it to put tension on the chain. Oem part diagrams don't show one, and I can't figure out how the axle is supposed to stay straight because right now it is loose. Can someone please help?
  19. In the manual for my 99 kx it says I can use 5w20 oil. Would anyone recommend that? Also what kind of oil should I use gear oil, Engine oil. Synthetic, non synthetic, ATF. Thanks
  20. This is my buddy's 1997 cr250 it stooped running. And wouldn't start and had no compression. when it was taken apart this is what was found, the rings and Piston crown broke at the exhaust bridge but it didn't seize and the cylinder escaped unscathed, I have no idea how it would have broke unless it hit the cylinder wall which would not make sense since the cylinder is fine, he said it was running hot at the time, could this cause the crown and rings to break, could it have just been time for it too go? Any help is appreciated. Thanks
  21. So after finishing my 1992 RM125 project bike I decided to buy another RM. This time it’s a 1995 model I picked up for €100 (around $120) The bike was left outside for many years with the engine kept indoors after a powervalve slider broke. Anyway here it is & what I’ve done so far. The engine bottom end seems good, so I have ordered a new top end kit and a water pump kit. Once I know the bike runs good, then I will start ordering the behemoth of parts it needs.
