  7. Hello, new poster with a new build and looking for insight. I've been working on this 74 Honda 350XL for a while and was hoping for some help as far as a potential fork swap or disc conversion. I want to end up with a nice scrambler build that will be a 50% street 50% dirt capable bike. Bike History: Picked it up for $500 about 8 months ago, went through the engine replaced gaskets and cases, added a mikuni 36, new header from xlint performance, open air intake, antigravity battery, new seat, bars, grips, light, signals. Eventually want to have a nice rebuild to rear frame. It came with the rear shocks on it and they feel good but not against changing them out. Won't let me upload a picture but I will try to figure that out. Thanks for any help available as far a s a fork swap or disc brake option. Also open to other good ideas. BabyKing

Agile little scooter. Not really very good at off-road, but it did better than my buddies GS1200. I ride this one when my GF gets her Thruxton out.
  12. I was wondering how would I go about converting a KLR650's single exhaust tip into dual twin tips for under 200$ (example picture below). Is there a pre made system already made?, are there converters and other pipes pieces I can put together to build it?, or is something I have create entirely on my own by cutting and bending pipes? thanks

  14. I have had a 2001 Polaris Scrambler 90 for many years now. It was running perfectly fine up until about a year ago. I took it to a local shop and was notified that there was no compression and I would need a top end rebuild. After I installed the rebuild kit(piston, jug, rings, pin, gaskets, etc) I still had the same problem that it would not run for more than 10 seconds before dying. I then bought a new carb thinking that was the problem, still didn't fix it. I then thought that the reed valves may not be good anymore and replaced that as well. Still, the same problem. Wth do I do now? I'm completely stumped on this one... could a bad electric choke make this big of a problem? What about a malfunctioning oil pump like or cable? Bad oil pump?(also had the ECM tested, it was also good)
  15. So here's the deal. I have an old 1972 Honda cb175 that I picked up for 50$. Bike was in great shape to be sitting as long as it had. Motor was locked up, got it unstuck. Bla bla bla. Here's the problem. Spark plug(plugs) were seized up in the aluminum head. Ended up having to drill the remainder of the plus out. Screw extractors of different sizes and styles didn't work. Trust me I tried them. But can't go back in time to "try" another way now. So I was going to re-tap the holes but unaware of what I was doing I drilled them into an oval. They are also drilled possibly too big to repair. Heli cores or helix cores, whatever its called, would they work because the ones I got from a friend seem to be too small, and too course thread. I don't have the money for a new cylinder head. Plus the only place I can find 1 is on eBay. I hate buying from eBay, but that another story. Any help here? I am afraid I've really screwed up with this one. These bikes are really rare to find. And too old to find after market parts. What can I do at this point? Can I take the head somewhere to get the hole filled back in and threaded in the right place? Use Heli cores? If so how? I don't know how to use them.

  18. Hi, I am looking for any advice on turning a CRF450X into a scrambler I can use as a daily rider. Before we go any further I'd better explain my situation... I have just moved to Belize and if you don't know, Belize is a small country south of Mexico and is still stuck in the 1980s. Most bikes here are Chinese so my options are severely limited. The only decent bike I have found for sale is a 2005 CRF450X. I know this bike is made for the trail so, with very little motorcycle knowledge, my question is how can I turn this bike into something that will be more friendly for day to day use. I plan on changing the aesthetic to a scrambler style, replacing the gas tank and seat. I'm guessing I'll have to change the gear ratio too, also want to make the bike easier to maintain (making services as far apart as possible). I will be riding maybe 20 miles a day at 50mph on average. Every now and then I'd like to travel on the highway for a few hours at a time as well as being able to do some off road stuff (nothing too aggressive). If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated, I know very little about bikes so have found it difficult to research this stuff alone. Cheers Dan
