  1. The new suspension that comes on the 17+ Hondas, I've been told and read that it's a-kit minus coatings or a-kit like. Can anyone tell me how true this is? Or what the differences really are? What makes them so much better? I've also been told the stock showa stuff is better than a-kit kyb...any truth to that ? Just fishing for information here...
  2. Hey guys, I removed my shock shaft from the shock clevis to get it coated n removed the rebound adjuster as well. I had the parts put into a bad and used all but one o ring that I believe I put in there afterwards from something else. Do any of you guys have pictures of how rear shock rebound adjuster goes together? I’m pretty sure it’s just a ball n spring two O rings, a set screw and a small Phillips screw
  3. I have a 2011 KX250F but the forks do not seem to be the correct type for this year. Anyone know what year of forks these would have come off of?
  4. Evening Y'all, I just picked up my dream bike, a 2017 CRF 450R right after graduating college in May 2018. I sold my last bike (2009 KX 450f) during Junior year of college due to not having any time to ride. This is going to sound crazy to you guys... ready? I have never once touched the suspension on any bike I've owned. I have never set my sag, played with my fork settings, spring type, oil levels, anything of that nature. I have owned over 6 bikes throughout my 22 years, (CRF 80, CRF 100, CRF 150f e-start 😉 , 04 KTM sx 125, 09 Kx 250f, 09 Crf 450r, 2008 KTM XC 250, 09 KX 450, in that order....... --> and now finally my baby, the 2017 CRF 450r. I have raced TORCS / WORCS growing up, and now mainly rip Idaho single track, some sandy desert, and motocross tracks. 70% / Offroad 20 % Moto / 10% f***** around finding jumps and corners in the desert. I am 220lbs and the stock settings truly don't feel bad or that "terrible" for my weight. Then again, I have no clue what tuned and set up suspension feels like for my weight and riding style / ability. I am an intermediate B class rider as well. I got my sag set by a shop in Boise, Idaho (Moto One, check em out if you're ever in the area) but that is as far as I have gone on the settings. What should I do? I have heard people say stiffer rear shock and front springs, and then tune them from there, some have said add some cc's of oil, and some said just mess with the stock stuff. There are no suspension companies local in Idaho I have found after researching (seriously LOL) and I am planning to send it off to a race shop anyways for the work (RaceTech, FC..) I don't want to start messing with my clickers and get the bike all funky from the get go, so please lend me a hand and let me know what you guys think is best for my riding style, and weight. I am 6'0 as well. I am open to trying clicker settings for the time being just to see what i can work with, but want some insight first. ***Anyone trying to bash on me for not doing suspension previously, I have not spent a ton of time wrenching on my bikes and am a pretty novice mechanic. Looking for helpful insight and info, it would be very appreciated! Thanks for reading -HP
  5. Hello all. I recently rebuilt my front forks on my DRZ400S, and added the gold valves. There are lots of good videos that amplify the instructions in the gold valve kits, so I will not attempt to duplicate them. Rather, this article is a list of things that I observed that were not covered in the material I found. The forks are from Showa, and are apparently used on other bikes, so I decided to post it here as well, for the benefit of others that may find this useful.   6. Hi Everyone. I recently decided I was going to take a crack at modeling my 2019 KX450 fork and shock in Shim Restackor due to general interest and a desire to see if I could learn something new during this quarantine. Some backround on me: I'm a former mechanic so I do my own suspension service, oil changes, spring swaps, etc. I can swap shims with guidance, but have never attempted to design my own stack. I'm a mechanical engineer and have a background in hydraulics modeling and fluid dynamics, but not for this type of application. I'm pretty intrigued by the spring-mass-damper response tuning approach, so I'm going to test this as well. For what is worth I ride MX only and I am a 220 lb front of the pack +25B rider (wait... now I'm +30... damn... 😨) I know there is a ReStackor thread that exists already with a lot of info on analyzing the output, but I haven't seen anyone document a practical approach to disassembling, measuring, entering the data, troubleshooting, etc. My plan is to document the good and bad here - I'm learning the software as I post this, so I'm sure there will be mistakes and lessons learned along the way. My goals of this project are: Model the stock 2019 KX450 fork in Restackor, analyze the output and see how it compares to my riding observations Use response tuning to design an improved stack for stock tuning Use spring calculations and weight scaling to choose spring rate and valving more suitable for my weight Repeat the process for shock Test ride feedback, and improve Learn & document my experience for others! I think I have a fairly good understanding of suspension tuning, but in more an an empirical/trial and error way - so I'm really looking to learn more about the nitty-gritty details of suspension tuning. I'm definitely a "data-driven" person - so I'm pretty excited to see how my on-track feedback compares to what the model shows. I'm a few days ahead on "step 1" above, so I'm going to make a few posts catching up on what I've done so far with pictures, diagrams, etc!
  7. Hi guys. My first time changing fork oil in 2012 RMZ 450. I zeroed both comp and rebound adjusters prior to disassembly and things seemed to go well. When all done, I attempted to return clickers to previous settings. Compression worked as it should but the rebound adjuster is stuck. Did I back the screw out too far when removing the bolt and I just need to twist harder on it? I took it apart a second time and did the whole change again and it’s still stuck. Is the D rod the weak link I will break by twisting too hard? Help please.
  8. Hey guys, I'm wondering what suspension settings you all are running front and rear? I have a 2017 crf 250r I'm a 210lb newer rider, my settings are currently set at, rear suspension low speed at 12 clicks rear suspension high speed 2 turns rebound is 12 clicks. Left front fork inner chamber 150psi, outer chamber 10psi, balance pressure 150psi Right front fork compression position 7 clicks, rebound 29 clicks Sag is 4" Thanks guys
  9. I am currently in the middle of installing goldvalves on my 19 crf450r. I feel like the instructions are unclear "at least to me".. For the record im very mechanically inclined btw. So, i built the low speed valve stack, and the compression stack and those two are correct. As per the valve stack build sheet, it looks like im building a single stage compression stack. Based off of the original valve/stack build i dont have enough washers following the racetech instructions. If anybody notices anything that looks funky call it out! I just hate to have to redo all of this. I know i should have took it to the shop, just trying to save 600$ in labor and shop supplies.
