  1. Hey everyone, please bear with me here...So i just purchased a street legal 2002 suzuki dr200s from a "mutual" friend here in massachusetts, and im thinking ive gotten myself into a big pickle here. The bike was advertised as off road only as the title and reg could not be found, so i really didn't buy this having any plans to put on the road. For what i paid its a great trail bike and i figured if i felt like it i would try to apply for a new title with the mass saftey dept.(i know i know. Never buy a street bike without a title, but i didnt think this would happen). After doing some research ive found some unsettling things. The kid i bought it from claimed he bought it from a 57 year old woman who bought it from the orig. Owner in 2010(it came with a copy of the original title, sales books, and a blank bill of sale supposably from her) and that she was suppose to be getting him a title but never got back to him, and that she claimed her registration was in the storage compartment but wasnt. After doing some research on her, i found that she passed away this last may, only 4 DAYS prior to when the kid's facebook says HE purchased the bike. However the bill of sale that was given to me was written out 14 days AFTER her death. I contacted the kid and mentioned this to him and he replied "thats probably why she never got back to me". OBVIOUSLY something isnt right here, and im thinking he knows more than he's telling me, even though he sold it as is with no title. Her obituary noted that she left behind several children, siblings, and a fiance. Now if im correct on my estate laws, if she had no will, only direct family/ heirs of the deceased can go to probate court and apply for a title to a vehicle, and i deffinetly dont think it could be done in 4 days. If i had to guess, it seems the fiance or someone sold the bike before the family/estate could get a hold of it. It doesn't show up as stolen with the police or any online check, SO what do i do? Again its not really getting a title that concerns me, but how do i find out if the bike was sold legally or not? Can i still get a title for this thing if it was/wasnt? even if it needs to be done in another state that doesnt require a title, is it do-able? Could there be some kind of hold on the vin? Am i going to get myself into any legal trouble by trying to title it, or even having it in general? I thought of reaching out to her relatives as i found them all on facebook but i dont want to be disrespectful in such a hard time and im afraid it will bring me trouble. Any advise is MUCH appreciated.
  2. Do you think it's possible to register my ttr125 as a moped or motorcycle in California, and what would I need to do it, i live in a small town wanna be able to ride it down to town without a ticket
  3. Wanting to hook up a lightweight rechargeable LiPo battery to power LEDs on my bike that I may be getting street legal eventually. How long should I expect a LiPo (lets say 2200MAh) to run my headlight, taillight, and signals for? I would run 2 LED small pods in the front for headlights, one flood and one spot (to simulate high beam and low beam) LED turn signals all around, and LED taillight and brake light. I am trying to keep this as simple as possible. I plan to keep my AC stator powered headlight as well as a backup. I am aware I will have to charge the LiPo separate from the vehicle. Has anyone done this or have any insight on doing this?
  4. 2018 purchased with 40-53 hours on the stock motor, pistons, vavles, shims, transmission, everything; besides an aftermarket yoshimura slip on exhaust. Checked the vavle clearance before I road it and they were all in spec with suzuki's service manual. Let's move on. The bike was primary used for I dont know what. The last owner said he did some riding in the Oregon sand dunes. No idea if it was raced before that. My goal was to turn it into a road legal dual sport. I opted for a 2012 RMZ because they come with a dignostic port behind the front number plate mounted on the ECU that when kicked over provides a constant voltage of 13.50V to 14.50V ish. To power all the road legal stuff. Upon completion I replaced the hour meter with a Trail Tech Endurance 2 at 0 miles and 0 hours. Other then a stainless steel oil filter, changed spark plug, and cleaned air filter the engine remained stock. I commuted with the bike to work daily which is 3 miles there and 3 back on 40 mph roads. During lunch i ride for one hour about 15-20 miles on some wood trails. Blah blah blah. Fast forward some more and the bike has 90 accumalated hours total. I have not check the vavle clearance since getting the bike. Most of the riding was around 45-55 mph average for top speed to 35 everywhere else. My oil changes have been every 10 hours give or take how hard and how many miles I've driven. Changed with full synthetic maxima pro plus 10w40 oil. Air filter was cleaned once in between, from the time I got the bike till 90 hours........ lay it on me but wait till you finish this read. Okay so up to this time I'll reiterate that the engine is still stock. No top end rebuilts, no vavle shims, NOTHING! All OEM. At 90 hours I changed the gearing from the stock 13/49 to 15/49 since then I've added 15 hours on it with the same riding habits as before with my longest highway/freeway trip being 30 minutes at 18 miles mostly highway miles driven at or around 65Mph. Yeah she was screaming at that too, with a 5 speed gear box. It was sketchy even with that changed gearing. Blah blah again. Now I'm at 110 hours and 1500 miles on a still stock motor besides transmission gearing. My vavle spacing hasn't changed. And I decided to tear down the top end to see what I'm working with. Cylinder, piston, rings, conrod, vavles, spark plug, head, etc look okay with normal wear and tear. So in conclusion. I will order a forged piston to deal better with the higher rpms that I run at. BUT THAT AS FAR AS ENGINE MODS WILL BE IT. I haven't notice any power losses and love that gearing. It still works well down low. Now take it or leave it but this is an honest tracker from my level of riding and mechanicle knowledge. I'm not getting paid for this or influenced by a company or brand. I'm just posting this because there is, in my opinion no real knowledge posted about this topic but a lot of people are curious. Thanks.
  5. Hello all, im new here, been reading through alot and after taking in so much info i just need it broken down step by step. I recently purchased an 07 kx250f. Id like to plate it and such, not sure weather to go through SD for plates or if illinois dmv woulf even let me transfer plates over etc. The vin has the dreaded C as its 8th digit. Please let me know what all i have to do legally to ride on the street worry free (other than dot tires, lights, mirror, horn. etc.) Thank you guys
  6. Hopefully some people out there with some experience with lighting and getting a drz 400 kick only model street legal. Recently picked up a '01 drz 400 (k1) kick only model, I'm looking to get some lighting wired up and im curious if the stock stator will be enough? What has anyone else out there done in regards to lighting, I have the left hand clip on with high beam low beam switch from an s model I'd like to incorporate, as well as the horn from an s model. I have the acerbis dot front headlight with hi and low beam with some additional LEDs, and a drc rear fender eliminator kit with the smoke lens. Any one have suggestions, advice, personal experience? Grateful for any imput!
  7. Just wired in the Euro headlight switch, horn, brake switch and brake light. The only item I can't quite figure out in the plate light. I bought the LED one from Sicass with the 2 wire connector. I tried the unused connector under the seat but it's a constant on. Where is the best place to wire this in?
  8. Hi I’m new to the forum. I have a ‘96 KTM 550 2 stroke I want to make street legal. I have the original title from ‘95. I bought it off of a friend in 2006 I never changed the title over to my name it’s just signed over. It’s a NJ title and he had it registered some time ago. The 8th digit in the vin is a “0” NOT a “3”. I don’t have any 3’s in my vin at all. I checked some forums and they say that’s usually what makes them get accepted or denied. It also states that on the NJDMV site. I have an older ‘92 550 that’s street legal in NY but that’s been on the roads since ‘92 and I’d like to do this one in the state I’m currently in and the title is NJ too. It doesn’t say anything on the title about off-road use or anything similar to that. I have the original paperwork when it was bought from the dealer as well as receipts. I just want to use the bike to ride to the trails which is less than 2 miles away. How well do you think my chances are getting accepted, so I can get plates, registration, and a new title from the dmv??
  9. I have been riding dirtbikes for most of my life and will be turning 18 soon and I was planning on street legalizing my small ttr 230. I realize that the bike is quite underpowered for road use but I was thinking that if I switched the 13 tooth countersprocket to a 15 I could use it for minimal used at speeds from 50 - 60 mph. I was hoping to use the bike in college as a cheap commuter but I cant decide whether to put my money into street legalizing the bike or buy a bigger bike like a klr 650 or drz 400 s.
