  1. Hey everyone! I’m new to the Redding area. I’m looking for some groups or new buddies to go riding with, so far I’ve only explored the Shasta/Chappie OHV. Cory
  2. Hey guys, I have a 1969 (approximately) Honda Z50. It was given to me after my uncle died. He would ride it around the dirt lake road between our families houses with a beer in one hand and a cigarette hanging out of the side of his mouth laughing the entire way. If you've ever seen or owned a Z50, they are a little ridiculous. All I wanted when I was younger was to ride his mini bike but I never got the opportunity. After he died, it sat in his garage for a number of years until i eventually came to own it. Unfortunately after sitting for so long, it is not starting at the moment. In addition he was not much of a mechanic so it needs some serious TLC. I thought it would be a great honor to restore it in his name and put it back on those lake roads. I need help guys. I can figure my way out around a bike but I am a little curious where to start with this old hunk. I would be happy to get it running again but I am also looking at possibly engine swapping this little guy (80cc or 125cc) if possible. And I know what you're thinking, "waste of time.. or this idiot has too much time on your hands"......agreed but I think you can agree that would be pretty badass. And for the short amount of time this thing gets used it would be a fun little project for nights at the lake. If you have any advice on where exactly to start or if the engine swap is possible please let me know. Not looking to hear from any of you automatic 'nay-sayers,' have a little imagination and appeal to your younger 12 year old self. Thanks, Chip
  3. I really like the KTM two strokes but they’re hard to fine and I have to get a little bit of an older model for my price range. I came across a 2002 250 SX but really wanted more of a trail set up. Would the SX be good if I put a flywheel weight on it, and made a few other changes? Or should I just wait it out for a more trail oriented model? Not sure how the low low end power is. As far as it being too punchy up top for the trails, I assume I could switch out power valve springs, etc. to tweak that slightly? I think that has all that on it even in those older models. Figured fly wheel weight would help with the low-end chugging.
  4. I am currently looking for a new bike. Now that I'm more financially stable I can afford a bike. I am looking to buy new. Need some advice on a new bike. Currently I'm looking at a yz250x and a yz250f or yz250fx. My first bike was a Yamaha Ttr230. I got a lot of experience with that but sold it years ago. So I'm looking to get back into it and I'm looking to ride a bigger bike. Most of my riding will be done on trails. Thats why I'm looking at the YZ250X and 250fx. I've never been on a track and would like to experience that so my plan is to take it to a track. Im open to ideas and bike options. Any thoughts on this topic would be great. Thanks
  5. I’m 13, 5’9 120 pounds and I have a budget of in between 2 and 3k. I need to find a bike my size that’s good on trails and won’t require tons of attention. I was thinking an enduro bike but I’m open to suggestions
  6. Hi. Tried Enduro a few times in borrowed bike (2012 ktm exc250) and loved it. Want to buy a bike and start riding. I live in Portugal, My budget is limited, and at the prices here I can't get good state 1999/2000 XR250. I'm 6 foot and around 180/190lbs, so my guess is if the bike will handle the trails around here. A lot of singlegrack, rock gardens, rock climbs, hillclimbs. Basically hard Enduro. And if it will be able to go on raids and events without being to slow and not able to keep up with my friends (they ride fairly well) I need a 4t because I'll be using the bike to move around town and such. Wanted an opinion about the xr250, thanks
  7. The only other trails we saw were deer and moose! Came across a pack of wolves too but the camera battery had shit the bed 😑
  8. Looking for new people who are loyal riders in Florida that love to ride AND new spots tho ride hit me up
  9. I want to get a yz125 and probably will regardless but want to be able to be somewhat competitive on the trails with my dad who has a 2007 wr450f completely stock which is around 40hp, I don’t need that much as I get close with my current 250 but I want to be able to somewhat match the acceleration he gets, currently want a 125 over a 250 as I’ve heard it requires more clutch skill and I want to learn that. I am a bit better with technique then my dad but still wondering given enough mods (preferably not a big bore) if I can get around the 35-40 hp mark if I wanted to do so. thanks
  10. Whats the best way to get my bike out of my truck when I go out alone, my truck has a considerable lift so it really high, and I only have one ramp, I find It's almost impossible to unload the bike myself i usually end up dropping the bike or coming close to dropping it
  11. im hoping to get a new bike soon as ive saved for awhile and i cant decide between a 2021 Kawasaki KX85 or a 2021 Honda CRF150R i like doing trail/technical/enduro style riding. I cant fit on anything really big as im only a 13 yr old kid whos 5'3 so im trying to decide between these two bikes. I like the kx for the fact its easy to fix and its just so cool because ive never owned a 2 stroke but i have ridden a KX100 before so i know how they feel but i just think 2t are really cool. But i also like the 150r a lot because of the torque and hp range it has and how i think it maybe would be better for the riding i like to do. I have a MX track near me so i would be able to wind it open once in a while to keep either bike healthy.
  12. Hey, Just picked up a 2021 KTM 150 XC-W. Looking for suggestions/feedback on a GPS system for trail riding that has a feature to track my route as well. Thoughts?
  13. Need help finding the right next bike for my cousin. He is 4’7 - 70lbs. He is just coming off a 110 and has outgrown the power and size of it. He bottoms out the suspension on every jump. - he wants a bike that can handle hard enduro trails ( hill climbs, rocky trails and the odd trail jumps...) we are looking into either a 125 four stroke or a 65 two stroke. Which bike will suit him better and are there any other bikes he should look at ? Thanks
  14. Wonder what kind of tune people are putting in there bikes for Bush riding. I recently switch from 2 stroke. Made the jump to a yzf450 thanks
  15. I'm a late bloomer for trail riding but finally took the bike out and I definitely picked the wrong trail. Tried riding near Gladwin trail 6 and not having any experience in deep sand it was brutal. I was riding the main trail and not the MCCT due to I didnt have anyone to ride with and the wife and father in law were in the sxs following. I made it only a 15 maybe 20 min. and had to turn back. Any trail suggestions that aren't half a foot deep of sand would be appreciated. Still need to build my skill set before hanging out on the beach.
  16. Hi. I currently own a CRF100F 2013 that my dad bought me back in 2016. I have been having so much fun and very good memories on it. However, i am now grown out of it and it lacks power. I frequently ride my dads YAMAHA TT-225 1986. It is the best bike i have ridden. The seat height is perfect, but a little more power would be nice. I ride enduro and hard trail riding (plus some goon riding/hillclimbs when i am bored) The question here is: are there any sturdy bikes out there that resemble the TT-225? I am talking about, seat height, low maintanence, bulletproof engines and so on. I am 5'6 and growing. Thanks in advance!
  17. Hi guys, this fall/winter I am hoping to get a street legal dirt bike. Well, get one then make it street legal because who doesn't like a good project ya know? My question on this is what bike do you suggest I do? I was thinking a kdx250 but I am lenient on that. My next question is what bike should I get for track riding? I've settled on getting a crf150rb for trail riding but would like a 2 stroke for the track. I'm currently riding a '98 yz125 with a 144 big bore. I haven't been to the track though, and the bike just feels awkwardly large. The power is perfect, but the physical size is too much. What would you suggest that I get for the track? Should I just stick with the yz and try to get more comfortable or find something a bit newer Thank you ahead of time for any replies and suggestions, it is very much appreciated!
  18. Hey guys Coming to thumper talk for the expertise and knowledge I desperately lack. I picked up a 2014 yz250f a month ago. First bike in 12 years and although the things a &%$#@!in blast to ride I'm noticing some stuff with the suspension that I'm not loving. This is obviously a bike meant for the track and big huge jumps. I'm riding this offroad on trails and probably wont ever actually take it to track. I've heard alot of people say that revalving your bike to your weight/riding type/skill level etc.. can make a huge impact. I find the bike is really stiff and kind of jumps around over small bumps and divots in my field. I'm not sure if I just need to stand up or maybe just learn to deal with it because it makes it hard to keep it under control at times. I also thought about lowering down on pressure and maybe adjusting my compression and rebound. Let me know what yall think. I'm 6'1 185 lb if that helps. It's crazy I feel like the suspension on my old ttr125 from when I was 12 years old handled better. Haha. Let me know what you think! Cheers
  19. I live near charlottesville Virginia and am looking for trail ride places not too far away. Less than an hour and a half away preferably. I have ridden at north garden and it’s nice but I want more singletrack loamy stuff if any is available.
  20. Curious question for the die hards or dedicated who frequent Walker Valley during the rainy months in the PNW. What have been your experiences, what trails should you avoid (I.e. Slippery brick sloped trails, deep puddles, flooding areas...). Also curious in what gear, equipment, tires do you either swap to during fall/winter or rely on more. Also are there any other trail systems other than walker that you use more during fall/winter (east Washington?) For ref: I started riding woods late spring, and new to the area.
  21. I’ve got a 1989 cr89 and am using it for trails and whatnot and need to install a kickstand. There seems to be a mount behind the left foot peg for a kickstand but the only mounts I can find are in Australia. Does anyone know where to get one of these mounts and the kickstand with bolt and spring? Or any better ideas? Thanks
  22. I am looking to get either a 2021 yz250 or a 2021 ktm 250 xc-w. Which is more reliable? Is fuel injection better than a carb? Pros vs Cons of either bike would be appreciated
  23. Hey guys as of now I own a crf250r 2007 model. I’ve made a few little changes to try and make this bike more trail friendly but I’m on the fence of getting something else that’s already built for woods/desert riding. Would it make sense to sell my 250r and go for a 250x? Will I be disappointed in the overall power delivery with the 250x? I want to make sure this bike has enough juice after uncorking and a new exhaust system. Also looking into the newer 250fx Yamaha models as well but one thing I don’t like is the newer models don’t have kickstart. Let me know what you guys think and if it’s worth getting something else. Thanks!
  24. Hi All, I am an intermediate/advanced track day rider in the east coast. Currently own a 2017 Aprilia Tuono for the street/track and am hoping to get some advice from the forum about trail riding and owning a dirt bike. I took some dirt bike lessons from our local MSF outlet and am thinking trail riding would be a good way to explore my two wheeled passion further and build new skills (mostly to pop wheelies really). I don't know many people that ride dirt so any pointers/riding buddies in the NE area would be welcome too. Basic Details: 5'7, 150 lb, intermediate/advanced street/track day rider with MSF dirt bike weekend training Been riding street for 10 years, track for 4. Needs: Small cheap, self maintainable used dirt bike to learn trail riding on. Bikes under consideration: Honda CRF150, Yamaha YZ250, KTM XC(sub 200cc) Budget: $2500 bike, $700 parts/maintenance to get it mechanically optimal Questions: What does maintenance look like? I've been seeing posts stating that the engine needs rebuilding after 40 hrs of riding? Assuming you ride 4 hours per ride, do you guys rebuild the engine (~$500) every 5 weekends? That sounds insanely high frequency and expensive for a third hobby What are the right questions to ask prospective sellers as far as ownership history, what are good answers? eg: for street it would be oil change frequency, modification from stock configuration, valve check/engine service history Reasonable estimate of running costs: Assuming I do all my own work, ride 20-25 times a season. Are there certain years to avoid in the bikes I'm considering? Any others I should put on my list? 2 stroke or 4 stroke from an easy of maintenance/budget perspective? Cheers, S Picture from MSF class🥳
  25. Interested to get owner feedback on the newer KLX300R, all feedback would be welcome and appreciated. Thanks. For example: - What other bikes did you look at and what made you choose the KLX in the end ? - Your level of riding experience ? - What do you like or dislike about the bike ? - Does the weight of the bike ever get to you ? - Where do you ride mostly ? - Any issues ? - Made any upgrades ? What parts did you change, why ? - Was it hard to find aftermarket parts/upgrades like..(skid plate, risers, bars, foot pegs etc.)
