  1. Hi everyone, ive got an eighties PE 175 I’ve recently restored, which I’m running silkolene comp 2 premix which is ok, but I don’t think it’s really any good, although everyone raves how good it is for older dirtbikes. I was thinking of bel ray or Castro’s as I ran these on other bikes when I was younger ( more for the smell) I’m rebuilding the engine later in the year, and if it’s anything like the bodges I seen on the rest of the bike it will all need doing so I wanna run it something that wont kill everything. Thanks in advance
  2. I have a 2006 KX250 that I rebuilt the top end on last year. First ride went amazing, with no issues. Second ride not so much. I was riding along and somehow the spark plug came loose and came out of the top of the cylinder head. For whatever reason I hope it was only because I forgot to tighten it. But after I put it back in place I started and continued to ride for a couple hours. Then out of nowhere my bike just stalled. I kicked and kicked but nothing happened. Once I got it home started off with changing spark plug, but had no spark. Did a little research and asked a few friends and they led me too changing my ignition coil. So I changed that and also added a new plug cap, but still no spark. Could this be a CDI issue?? Stator?? Or does anybody have any tips for troubleshooting these items, other than what I've read about trying new CDI box, hoping and praying that I don't have two over priced perfectly fine boxes kicking around?
  3. I had fun building up a couple CR250R 2-strokes. Ken Roczen is hero, so these were a tribute. Also I thought it would be cool to mimic the look of the CRF450RWE. I'm adding black triple clamps and bars and a "Factory Racing clutch cover to the red 2004. The black 2002 is all stock just about everywhere and was a barn find. It need a new pipe. I know some don't care for the black bike. I'm planning to do another CR250R and also a CR125R in a similar style. Any suggestions? Maybe blue with white/red? Red with black? Black with flo yellow?
  4. Rebuilding the top end on my 1999 YZ125, what is the best method of honing to bring back the cross hatches? What color Scotch-Brite? Green or red? Also anything that would help out a first top end rebuild, I see all these threads about people rebuilding the top end & it blows in a few hours. I do not want that to be my case, it seems so simple why are people running into complications? Thanks!
  5. Currently ride a kx250f. Wanna get a 300xc because I ride rocky trails and it’s better in them, also wanna make the bike street legal in the future. I don’t ride 2 strokes, is this a good idea? Also, how is the power and on these bikes? If I get one I’ll probably put a weighted flywheel on and an fmf gnarly.
  6. I just brought home my new baby. A new to me 2003 KX250 in great shape and she's set up for the woods (which is primarily what I will ride) she was never raced a day in her life and judging by the boot marks I dont think she has seen much action in her lifetime at all... got the title, all bearings tight no play anywhere. Has a warp9 18" rear wheel, 11oz. Flywheel weight, magura hydraulic clutch (I think the hymec not sure). Vforce3 Reed valve. They Had the suspension revalved in 2018 at a reputable place, (they do alot of racers suspension) the previous owner who is the same weight as me and does the same type of riding (mostly woods) and she really wasnt ridden a pretty much at all since the re-valve, but she was started weekly and maintained (almost analy which is good for me!) I haven't had time to ride her yet except for the test ride and a quick putt-putt around my shed (been itching to throw a leg over her and rip). Sorry about the long intro but I am very excited it's the nicest bike I have ever had (had a 2005 yz250f that dropped a valve into the cylinder after my first 8 hours of owning it, got rid of it then). And after that a 96 yz250 which I loved. I haven't ridden in years now and I am just getting back into it! Anyway I have been trying to find a green anodized bling kit like the one from mojo motorsports or moose racing or tusk. Green seems more difficult to find than blue or red. And it seems impossible to find one for my year (2003) kx250... also tried to find the green anodized foot pegs but once again I can find them for just about every year except 2002, 2003, and sometimes 2004 as well... same for a black w/green tip brake pedal and shifter... what the hell? I have heard there are alot of one off parts for these years but I feel like a bling kit is something silly to not find. Also I really want to get the shorty lever for my magura hydraulic clutch ASAP because when I pull it with my middle finger or my pointer and middle finger the long lever squashes my ring and pinkie fingers. (Most people can probably just adjust where the clutch levers friction point is and just not pull the lever all the way) unfortunately this drives me insane but I did see a "shorty" lever for sale on rocky mtn ATV(i think). When I click on it it brings up a pic with a red anodized adjuster which basically has a pin (for lack of a better word) through it. But then when I go to the option and i switch to the shorty lever the picture changes to what appears to be the correct one. What messes with me though is when I switch back to long the red adjuster lever picture doesnt come back but just the regular long replacement lever. i know it's silly but I have never had a bike that was worth doing any cosmetic stuff to, so I am actually excited to make it look bitchin. Could anyone help me find some green anodized bling even if I have to buy each piece separately? And or confirm where I could find the correct shorty lever for my magura clutch (extra points if you can find an aftermarket shorty green lever for the magura clutch and I'll love you forever). My cosmetic plans are to go for black radiator shroud plastics and get graphics that match the rear fender and fork guards (mostly black with some green and maybe a dunlop logo) so the bike will be mostly black. And then get the green anodized brake lever (two finger pull), green anodized gas cap, all the little stuff like master cylinder covers, rear brake clevis, axle adjusters, wheel spacers, oil drain and filler plug, hopefully foot pegs, maybe the adjustment screws for the carb in green maybe green handlebar and risers. Going to get black and green spoke covers and alternate them on both wheels then once I see how she looks with all the black with the green anodized accents I will throw on either a complete black or possibly green silicone and fuel/overflow hose kit. Any help and or links and info would be super appreciated. Idk why but it seems like red or blue parts are easy to find but green for my year isn't.... Thanks everyone in advance And I'm sorry I wrote such a long freaking novel I'm just super excited... and haven't had time to ride so I've been thinking about how I wish she looked... Btw this is my first post here. I used to come here for info years ago but never posted. Thankyou all for some of the best info and discussions throughout the years...
  7. I’m new here. im doing a build on my 86 cr250 and I was wanting to shave the head for more compression. I was thinking, would it work just to put the head on the cylinder without the gasket and keep shaving it till it touches the piston, and then put the gasket on? What are your thoughts?
  8. Hey guys, I’m in the process of building a 02cr125 from the ground up. Have just about all the parts now, thing is I can’t find a stator to save my life(build). I ordered one off ebay(regulator rectifier) and it came w/o a stator plate. I ordered a flywheel off eBay as well. Both of which, I don’t really, 100% know if they are the correct item. My question is, does anyone know where I can find a stator/flywheel assem. for a 2002 CR125 complete? Does ANY other years interchange? I know according to part numbers on oem-cycle, the 02 is the only year listed for compatibility. I emailed Ricky stator but they didn’t have one for 2002. Can I use a 05-07 assembly? I’m not using it for headlights, just to get the bike started. Many help would be great. I’m new to bikes and am trying to feel my way. Thanks
  9. My 2001 cr250r won’t idle more than 6-7 seconds after it is warmed up. I tried messing with the air screw and idle screw and I could not get it to idle. The bike is also running rich since I fouled 3 plugs within a short amount of time and they were black in color. I looked at the pilot and main jet and both were the stock size. Getting the airscrew in the correct place may stop it from fouling. My question is would dropping the main jet a size help in idling? Thanks for the help
  10. Couple days ago I took my 1989 yz250wr out for a trail ride. On the way back home I had her cooking wide open 5th gear for a little bit. Then once I slow down I hear a terrible grinding noise that sounds like it's coming from the engine. I rode home slow. Still shifts through all 5 gears and clutch seemed to be working fine but it will now roll freely while in gear. I pulled the engine and the bottom end looks fine no metal shavings or anything. Haven't taken the clutch plates out yet. Any ideas what my problem could be / what I should check?? Top end looks fine and still has good compression. Should also mention it still started the next day just fine just made the grinding noise while running.
  11. So I am rebuilding my 2001 yz 250. I really only woods ride it l. I have an 11oz fly wheel already but I would love the bottom end power that the porting on a xc bike can offer. so I was wondering if a yz250x head would fit on it!? Is there any clearance issues? Has anyone ever done this? The cylinder gaskets looks very similar so I'm wondering if there would be any issues with it. Thanks in advance!!
  12. I was looking at putting a Prox Piston in my kx 250 for my next rebuild. Have other things to get don't really want to buy a wiseco. How durable would it be in my bike, how long would it Last. I ride Michigan trails. Usually pretty tight averaging 30 mph. Also, ride Hatfield McCoy. Dont usually get on it hard besides the occasional drag race with friends. Would this Piston last a summer in my bike I will rebuild every summer anyway. Probably put 50-60 hours on it a summer maybe closer to 40.
  13. Just ordered a oem top end kit for my 1999 YZ125. The bike runs perfectly, I'm just rebuilding for preventative measures. Is my cylinder nikasil plated? I ordered a ball hone since my cylinder is glazed. After some research I discovered that honing a two stroke cylinder isn't a good idea because of the ports. I'm taking my cylinder to get measured to see if I'm still in spec. I also will be measuring the ring gap with a feeler gage. Anything I'm missing to make this top end rebuild go flawlessly?
  14. I recently bought a 1996 yz125 and there was no power valve linkage cover it was being run like this for some time so I took it for a small test drive starts fine but has no power could not having the cover cause this ? And does anyone know where I can get one or have one they are willing to sell ?Thanks in advance
