Hello, first time doing any kind of work like this on a 4 stroke and I am having a couple of issues. My 2016 YZ250F was running great but progressively becoming harder to start. I thought it was time to adjust the valves and also decided to throw in a new piston while I was in there. All seemed to go great until I went to go start the bike after buttoning everything back up. Oil is leaking from the cylinder head gasket, bike does not sound like it wants to turn over, and my bike back fires after every 10 or so kicks. I have been a 2 stroke owner for years, so this is not only my first 4 stroke, but also my first fuel injected bike *I am a little lost on trouble shooting*. I have included some pictures of the top of my piston if it gives any clues to the more experienced mechanics on this forum. Also have a picture of the shims I installed, a picture to confirm my cams were timed correctly, and a pic of my bike because hey, not a bad looking bike lol.

I recently did a valve adjustment on my 08 crf250r and after I put it back together it wouldn’t start after kicking it for a few minutes. I then tried bump starting it and it started but it was making unusual noises and it just wasn’t running right. When I was doing the valve adjustment I sort of messed up and took off the cam retainer bolts off and tried moving the piston to top dead center and the cam popped off so I didn’t know what spot to put the timing chain to put it back on the cam because I forgot to mark it with a sharpie. Will the bike still run if the timing chain is off by one tooth? If so, how do I fix it? Does anyone know how to help me? I really need the bike running Friday. Thank you for any suggestions!

Hi, so i have just bought an 03 XR400 and I have just been getting it looking nice tidy and running well, I decided to have a check at the valve clearances. They were all a tad off so i adjusted back to spec, this was when i found that the right exhaust has litterally NO play. And when I mean no play i mean the adjustment pin was taken all the way out and it still had NO PLAY 🤨. It might be worth mentioning that this valve is the one that the decompression lever is hooked up to, but does that mean there should be no movement? I talked to a mate and he said that its fine but i just dont know. The specs for the exhaust valves are 0.12mm. The adjustment pin is now back in roughly the position i remember it lol, and when the engine starts it has a ticking noise. is someone able to help me out here? Is there something im missing? Has this happened to anyone else? What must i be doing wrong? Cheers.

2017 FC 450 Valve clearance adjustment using rocker shaft removal method instead or camshaft removal. Manual states to set rocker shaft axail play at 0.10mm using feeler gauge and tighten 7mm rocker shaft bolts to 15Nm, this sets position. When installing shaft plugs (bolts on end with the o-ring seals) to 10Nm this then drags rocker shafts back opening up the 0.10mm end float and rockers appear to have excessive play. Any advice from anyone who uses this method when adjusting their ktm / husky valves would be much appreciated. Thanks.
