  1. Hi there, I recently bought a stedi led globe for my Wr only to slowly but surely find out that the 2013 Wr has a ac stator. Rather than go down the trail tech/ Baja route I’ve tried to save myself some money and fitted 2 rectifiers with capacitors to convert (one for each beam), the led works mint but my issue now is both normal and high beam are on at the same time and the switch does nothing but the dashboard light 🤔 I need to be able to switch hi beam off for rwc any help would be greatly appreciated complete novice to electrics but determined to get it done!! cheers joe
  2. Hey everyone! I have a 2005 Yz250. I recently traded a guy for his 2015 Wr450 front and rear rims so I can have that 18” rear. The front hub has the notches for the speedometer off the Wr. Anyone know what spacer I can run to slip over the notches on the Wr hub to fit the 05’ Yz front axle?
  3. Hi all, I am new to the board and this is my first post. I have found a lot of info on the earlier model YZ/WR gear swaps fo get a taller and wider gear ratio in a Yz450. I just bought a 2017 YZ450F and I am converting to a supermoto. I will be riding mainly on the street and would like to get a wider gear ratio. Can you swap gears front he later model (2017ish) WR450’s to the Yz450’s? Or would I have swap the entire transmission? I would like to swap 1st, 4th & 5th ideally. Any info or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
  4. Hey guys I've been using the forum for advice for a long time, usually just searching but I've created a weird enough problem for myself I had to make an account and post. I have a 1998 WR400, bought it used and abused. Last season I got her running well enough, drilled the exhaust, and opened up the air box but didn't change anything else. Getting it ready for this season I was getting into it and found that the slide in the stock carb was cracked, and the inside was all gummed up. After a bit of searching it sounded like the consensus was that you can just throw a WR450 carburetor in no problems. So I bought this https://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-WR-400-F-WR400F-Carburetor-Carb-1998-2000-NEW/123166146174?hash=item1cad463e7e:g:hmcAAOSwZKBZJcS1:sc:USPSPriority!93446!US!-1 and popped her in. I blocked off the old hot start hole with some vacuum plugs but I cant get it to start for the life of me. I've tried kicking it a billion times with settings on the fuel screw from about 1/4 to 2, with no success. I did get it to start once at about 1.5 turns, but it died fairly quickly and I couldn't replicate it. I threw a new plug and air filter in as well, but no other changes. Anyone able to point out what stupid thing I'm doing?
  5. Hi everybody!! Finally I bought my WR450f 2004, and I am super happy 🙂 I wanted to have a spare set of tires only for "the road" and yesterday bought a spare set from a YZ250 in good shape. Evrything looks the same.... Here is my question: Will they match? or be exchangeable? WR450 Front 80/100-21 Rear 110/100-18 YZ250 Front 90/100-21 Rear 100/90-19 If they will fit in your opinion, which set of 100% road tires will fit? Thanks a lot
  6. Hi everyone, just picked up a clapped out 2003 wr450f. Busy restoring it but have trouble sourcing a exhaust muffler. Is there a newer model wr450 exhaust (stock/aftermarket) that will fit stock header of 2003. Many thanks
  7. Whats up guys. I am wondering if I should upgrade my Drz400, or just sell ot and get a Wr450? Some background: I have a 2000 Drz400 (kickstart ONLY) that I street legaled. The updrades it needs are: > New clutch pack = ..?(want oem so prob. An arm&leg) > Clutch cable = 14.00 > Steel braided brake line = 43.00 > Rear caliper rebuild kit = 19.00 > Rear brake pads = 16.00 > Carb rebuild kit = 50.00 > Upgraded headlight = ..? (Any suggestions?) > Possibly sumo wheels $145.00 without the clutch pack, headlight, or wheels. I will also need to upgrade or refurb. the rear shock at some point. I am wondering if it is worth going all out with the Drz, or switching to a wr or yz? I like that my bike has the updraded cams and carb already and the reliability factor. I also like the weight and extra power of the wr/yz. I just don't know how long they will last before rebuild and general maintenance vs the Drz. So, what do y'all think? Thanks
  8. Hello I just bought a locked up 2006 yamaha wr450f and I found motor parts for a 2007 wr450f was just curious if there is any difference between the two engines
  9. I was riding down a dirt road 70 to 75mph and the rear wheel locked. I was able to go off in a ditch and try to see what the problem was. You can pull the clutch and start it in second gear and start riding but first locked the wheel and killed the bike and I couldn’t get it into neutral either. It will run in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Seems to shift fine into each gear. I took the clutch apart and things looked pretty decent. The clutch basket had the ridges in the sides so I will need to replace that. I’m pretty sure that won’t fix the problem but was just tryin to get some input into what could be going on and how easy it would be for me to fix. Everything engine wise seems to be just fine but I’m assuming it’s either something with the clutch or a shift fork or something in the tranny. Any help would be appreciated.
  10. Hi there, I’m hoping to get some help here (Australia). My 08WR450F headlight isn’t working. I have no idea when it comes to wiring . It always worked fine until I changed out the stock switch assembly with a smaller single switch (not a light specific one) and straight away the headlight didn’t work. so I rode it for a while without any headlight and have just put the stock switch assembly back on and it’s still not working. I checked all the connections while stripping the bike down and referbishing/rebuilding after replacing the crankcase and new top end and refurbishing almost the entire bike (that’s another story) anyway so I checked the stator wires while it was apart etc and they look fine.. Any one got any ideas please.
  11. I bought an 03 WR450. I have seen a few posts on here, that there were issues with this year. I dont believe that I need to do the update (correct me if Im wrong please) for my current problem. When my bike is cold, there is zero chance that the electric start will work. It kicks fine, bump starts fine, runs strong, the starter just wont do it. I have a brand new (higher end) battery. When the bike is warm, the e-start will work sporadically. I am under the understanding that the starter was just undersized. I saw a thread at one point stating that an 03 Raptor 660 starter would fit my bike. Is this the best route to take, does it actually fit, or is there a better option I should be looking at? Ive been out of the game for about 15 years, so any help is appreciated.
  12. Hi fellow TTers!! I'm wanting to get a new brake set up and not brake the bank! I found this Race Driven set for what seems like a very reasonable price ($104 for both rotors & both sets of pads), unless they are junk 😂 I currently have a 09 WR450F, I'm mostly riding off road (with the occasional few MX laps, just for added fun), lots of mud, some sand and rocks. The current brakes do "okay", but I'm not liking the floating disk (which may possibly be factory original) in the front for my type of riding conditions. So.. I'm looking for feedback/testemoniol about getting the Race Driven rotors & pads (I could also just get rotors and different pads.. if that would work out better). What are the pros/cons..Stopping power, feel, life span...? Thanks, Brian 🍻
  13. Hey dudes. So I bought a used 2003 Wr450f in April. It had the first gen style of the rekluse z start in it, a little oil leak, and bent radiators. The rekluse wasn’t properly calibrated and I had no idea of how to adjust this due to it being so different from current rekluses. It felt like the clutch was always a little engaged so I bought a new clutch cable to see if that helped solve the problem. I had the cable pushed completely to both ends of adjustment to try to eliminate this problem. That didn’t solve it. I ended up bending one of the radiators more to the point where cooling was a problem. It started to boil my coolant but I neglected the warning sign. I ended up going out to the dunes and blew the clutch. I lost 5th on a dune then rolled into a bowl and lost all gears. It would still shift and rev. It smelled like a bbq then and stunk up my room when I disassembled it all. I split the case to see if there were any other problems in the transmission but I didn’t see anything. I got a replacement stock yz450 clutch and put in a yz push rod and push rod cap. I don’t think that is causing my problem. The ultimate problem is my first through 5th gear all feel like they are the same speed. My clutch adjustment on my cable don’t seem like they are helping. Has anyone had this problem? sorry this is my first post and I don’t exactly understand what is behind the problem
  14. Long story short, I stripped the drain plug on my 07 WR450 so decided to split the engine case and do a mild rebuild. I had never done anything close to it before, but I followed the service manual and a book on engine rebuilding. Ran the bike a few times at lower RPMs for at least 4 or 5 hours. Once I finally decides it had broken in a bit I gave it some gas and was taking off but when I came to a stop a mile or so later it was making a bad clicking noise. I didn't notice any lack of power, but I immediately turned around and parked it. Here's a video of the sound at startup: https://photos.app.goo.gl/2cwSEaKHYzMaGwSq7 Any ideas on what it might be? I know it's all guessing, but I'm debating if it's worth trying myself a second time or if I should take it to a shop and have them fix whatever I messed up. Thanks in advance. This forum was EXTREMELY helpful when I was doing my rebuild!
  15. Hello so I recently bought a 2004 wr450f supermoto and when I give It throttle while moving it lurched and bogs and pops like crazy and the electronics flicker a bit. I was thinking it is running lean as it seems to be a "little" better with the choke on. Where would you recommend I look first?
  16. Hi all, Does anyone have any experience with installing stainless steel brake lines for the 2016+ WR450F / 2015+ WR250F? I know that the stainless lines for the rear are identical from the YZ450F, but I can't seem to find any stainless lines for the front brake; I'd assume on the WR the front brake lines are a little bit longer so as to clear the display and headlight. Can anyone help me confirm this? Do these brake lines really change the feel of the brakes? Coming from the orange kool aid crew, one of the things I've really missed from those days are the super grabby brakes. I know I'm not going to be able to completely replicate the feel, but anything would be better than the way the brakes feel now.
  17. Hello, I would like to ask if anyone has experience with converting a transmission from a 5-speed to a 6-speed on a 2009 wr450? Or a contact for a company that would produce a rebiul kit? thank
