  7. To All Off-Road Enthusiasts in SW Washington: As you may have heard there is good news brewing in the Yacolt Burn State Forest. After nearly seven years of planning we are finally going to begin building new 4x4, ATV, and Dirt Bike trails as part of the first phase of the DNR's ten year recreation plan for the Yacolt Burn. Yes, it's true - it's actually going to happen! Leadership from the Jones Creek Trail Riders Association (JCTRA), and Piston’s Wild Motorsports as well as other supporting organizations has already engaged in several meetings with the Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to discuss the “nuts and bolts” of implementing the trail building process. Throughout the month of May, our groups will be working on the ground with the DNR finalizing trail layout and roughing in the first sections of new trails. Much of the roughing in process will be handled using heavy equipment, so the need for volunteers will be minimal during the month of May. Once a portion of the trails has been roughed-in, we will need an outpouring of volunteer support to complete the trail building process. Toward the end of May, dates will be announced for work parties in June and beyond and that is when we will need the off-road community to join in and help build the new trails! To put it simply, JCTRA will take the lead on building most of the ATV and Dirt Bike (single-track) trails and Piston’s Wild Motorsports will take the lead on building the 4X4 trails. Both groups will be working in cooperation with the DNR and in accordance with the approved plan. In most cases there will be separate operations going on in the forest for these projects although it will not be uncommon to share resources to promote building trails at the least cost and the highest rate of efficiency. In some cases volunteers may be asked to help out with either type of trail building project as the need arises. Please remember that it is in all of our best interests to see both groups succeed as the trail projects are linked together. If one group falls too far behind, the other will not be allowed to proceed. This will be a team effort to bring additional motorized recreation to the Yacolt Burn! So how can you help? The best way to stay informed about the progress of the new trail building and what you can do to help is to register on the http://www.jctra.org website (ATV/MC) or http://www.pistonswild.com forum (4x4). Registering on these internet sites will add you to the respective clubs email address list which means you'll get up to date emails letting you know what's is going on, when there are work parties planned, and how you can get involved in the process. It is 100% free and you do not have to join or become a member of either club to be added to the email list(s). Registering is easy and you can have your name removed from the list(s) at any time. To register and add yourself to the JCTRA.org mailing list please click HERE to begin the registration process. We will also be posting periodic news and calls for volunteers on some of the local forums such as Thumpertalk, PNW4WDA and OMRA forums . . . but adding your name to the above email lists is the only way to ensure that you will receive the most up to date and accurate information. We thank you for your patience and we look forward to seeing you on the trails ! ! !
  8. Ok, show of hands, who here is satisfied with the direction this area is going. I've been up a few times and I must say it's pretty tame. I don't want to offend the volunteers that have put some serious work into this riding area, but the planning is lacking in my opinion. What I saw yesterday was a bunch of cars parked along the road where we used to park (way down below). I assume these are hikers and such since they were all driving Subarus. I feel like a kid who has had his favorite toy taken away and given to his spoiled brat kid brother only to be given a rubber band to play with to make up for it. I know, I know, there were erosion issues and enivironmental concerns to be dealt with, but really. The reason I loved Reiter is the challenge and there isn't any any more. I was reading some of the proposed trail layouts and it talks about making areas to go around muddy spots in case people don't want to go through the mud. THAT'S THE POINT! Reiter never gave you the choice. You either went through the obstacle or you didn't go, period. Anyway, rant over for now. Please feel free to convince me otherwise.
  9. Ok! Since it is getting to be getting close to that time of year and I have not seen anything about GPNF, It might be a little early but let me be the first to start a "Gifford Pinchot National Forest Trail Up-Date page. Lets hear them!

  13. Hey all, I've been away from my bike for a couple of months and am looking to get back on 'er for an easy ride preferably early tomorrow. If no one posts, I'm going to head to Tahuya around 0700 and see what happens. Thanks in advance....
  14. As far as I know, the only local endurocross in the Nowthwest is the EX track at Hannegan, and orofino endurocross for a weekend in idaho. Is there any other northwest EX? races, or practices?
  15. Hey. So it had been a while since my last ride up there and boy have they done a lot of logging! We came in from the track side and staged at the bus turn around sign area. We rode up to the c loop and headed out till the little trail to the right takes off. We headed out that as far as we could but everything had either been logged out or otherwise closed down. We headed back and rode c loop up to the gravel pit. From there we rode up to the radio towers as I remember there being some cool stuff up there. Once there, there is a ton of cool rocky trails going all over. Its weird though. Once we got way back in there we started seeing no moto signs? There were none where the trail started but we saw a few once we got a few miles in. There seems to be some well traveled epic stuff out there? We turned around when we saw the signs, but there was lots of other trails with no signs so we just took those. We got so far back in there we thought we might get lost so we headed back the way we came in, but it looked like the trails just kept going. Here is one of the cool spots we found on our little adventure So my question is...... Is it ok to ride that stuff???
  16. The Starvation Ridge GP will be Saturday, Oct.1. Junior A,B, C will run at 10:00 am, Experts at 11 am ( plus open am, 200am), rest of amateurs, women, Jr. X, sportsman at 1:00, Quads at 3:00 There will be a playday Sunday Oct.2 at the Ridge.
  17. Just got back from a great weekend at Taneum. Came across a couple hikers on the#1326 trail while on our family ride. They would not let us pass!! One of them turned around and said... "didn't you notice the No Motorized Vehicle sign? This trail is for non-motorized vehicles only". Of course I told him otherwise. But what freaking moron! Go back and read the freaking sign again dude. Plus dirtbike tracks and bridges without handrails any clue?
  18. Pre-entry ends October 1st for the 24hrs of Starvation Ridge. Pre-entries must be received by Oct. 1, not mailed or called in. No pit reservations without paid entry. More info and pre-entry form at our website, www.overthebarsgang.com New things on the agenda are the Dan Jordan obstacle course, and maybe the Hornet hump. The hornet hump is a huge swarm that attacked riders behind the big pond during the 6hr race. Ron cleared a big swath of brush and MAY have covered them up. Maybe. ....If not, it will add a new dimension to the 24hr. Endurocross! We don't need no stinkin' endurocross. We've got swarming ground hornets and the Dan Jordan inspired obstacle course for the start!! Course will be around ??? miles in length. Shorter than last years 28 miles to make it more manageable for our sweepers/retrievers. Course prep will be different, which I think will add a new dimension to the race. In keeping with the new tradition started last year, we will have a running, mass start, featuring the Jordan obstacle course. ( Thanks for the idea, Dan!!) From now on, we will feature some kind of running mass start, reminescent of the old 24hrs of LeMans start. The mass start makes scoring easier and more accurate, as well as spreading out the riders and giving everyone a shot at leading.
  19. Mark your calendars...the date for the 2012 Desert 100 is set for March 31 - April 1, 2012. Hope to see you all there! 🙂 You can visit the Desert 100 Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/SJMC-Desert-100/131026306947741#!/pages/SJMC-Desert-100/131026306947741
  20. I lost my Garmin GPS unit on the trail between Goose Creek Camp Ground and Alder Creek Trail head. If anyone would happen to find it or heard of someone else finding it I would be glad to identify it. I am offering a $150 reward. It was lost Saturday the 24th in the morning about 11-11:30. Thanks 509-632-5556
  21. Since the rains are heading our way on the west side of the Cascades, I'm looking for singletrack riding on the other side of the hills for a couple of KTM 450 riders. The perfect ride would be a 40-50 mi flowy singletrack loop - any favorites anyone would be willing to share? Thanks in advance for the help! Hamp
  22. THIS time i managed to drag along the helmet cam when we rode GP and got amazing footage along the ridge on Juniper 🙂. excllent weather and conditions 🙂 http://www.vimeo.com/28916575 Joe
  23. Can someone try and help me out on where the 941 ends? We rode The 941 back towards pyramid peak today. It ended at a fire road with a trail that was right across the fire road that ended at a deep ravine. Is this the real end of the trail? or is there more to it up or down the fire road? We looked but it started to pour down on us so we made our way back to the 4x4 trail... Thanks.....
  24. Post up your favorite KTM dealerships Looking at making a drive down there from B.C. in the spring to pick up some new gear and most likely a bike 👍
  25. Hello! A couple of fairly new dirbike riders are hoping to ride later this month. We're coming from Seattle. On our first (and my only!) ride since getting back into riding, we did Tahuya. Had a fantastic time. But the drive there was pretty far (90 miles?) For our second ride, we could go back to Tahuya - there are plenty of trails we didn't do the first time. Or is there another beginner/intermediate trail that would be closer to Seattle and/or more interesting? Please make a recommendation! I looked on the "where to ride" map and Reiter, Evans Creek, and Capitol Forest are all closer to Seattle. Would any of those trails be good for beginner/intermediate riders who want to go for a 30 mile (ish) ride without ever being more than 5 miles from the car? Thanks!
