  9. I'm in the process of rebuilding a 1979 Honda XL125s and am almost ready to ride. the bike has a non oem exhaust pipe which hangs quite low, so low that the actuator arm is blocked from movement and often jams half engaged. i understand that i may need to replace the pipe or get the pipe bent/modified, but i was wondering if anyone else had encountered this issue, and how they fixed it.

Very reliable, when it worked, worked amazing love the little bike had good hp for the size and still ride it for funny sometimes. Can go a fast speed and if something went cheap to repair or place.

Bought 1982ish with broken left hand side crankshaft rotor end. First installed left over 200R crankshaft complete assembly, 194cc cylinder/piston and longer 200 studs to convert engine to 200(194cc)R engine. Compared 79' XL125S cylinder head to 81-83 1st Gen. head and found porting, valve dimensions and If memory serves correct camshafts exactly the same. Used 79' XL125S bottom cases, clutch, etc. except for rotor and left side cover windings XR200R due to original windings damaged from crankshaft breakage. Engine now is the 5-speed 84' ATC-200X converted for motorcycle kicker use. Cylinder head fins are larger/longer for greater cooling. I don't remember there being any difference in porting or valve train. Cylinder fins are also larger/longer for greater cooling. Jug is the 194cc not 192cc. I rescued 3 84' ATC-200Xs from a local motorcycle scrap yard butcher, who was trying to hammer cases back together after a botched transmission repair attempt. The engine was exposed to water and the cylinder full of pits from rust. I just honed cylinder aggressively and installed whatever piston/ring assembly I had that fit. Engine of course smokes. My main goal was to convert 5-speed engine for XR200R frames. Presently trial motor is in this XL125S. Bike is a blast to ride considering being a twin shock model. Front end is the 1980 CR250R red rocket 1st Gen. 12" travel forks. If you ever ride on these you will understand why Fox Factory Forx and Simon Forks came out. I guess the thought process was 12" travel was better than 9-10" travel. Forks were not unusable, just flexy. I believe tube diameter is 38mm, will have to measure otherwise. XR200R forks may have been 37mm(?).
