  1. Anybody here ever herd of anyone putting an xr 400 into an xr 350?
  2. i just got a 1994 xr200r project, anyone know a site or anywhere to find the air boot from the air box to the carb? I haven’t been able to find used. also does anyone know what other year gas tanks fit? Was hoping there was one out there with plastics on it instead of just the exposed tank, thanks to anyone that can help 👍
  3. Can I get away with a hone out and replacing the rings? I have a other valve cover with freshly lapped and replaced exhaust valves 96 xr600r
  4. Hey guys I got this 1990 Honda Xr80r project bike and it has no spark. The guy said he put a new coil and points in it and it still doesnt have spark. I set the point gap to 0.3mm like what everything says I should do and looked at the coil and spark plug cap and everything seems tight. The guy said he lost the old points and coil. What/where should I go next? Anything will help Thanks Devon 🙂
  5. Hey all quiquick question. So I have a 96 xr200r that has worn cam journals in the cylinder head. Obviously I can't get a new one because it's NLA now I can however get a crf230 head amd they look identical. Would a crf230 head work? Thanks!
  6. Hey guys, I bought this head off eBay because it was listed as xr100r head. I made the mistake of buying it while drunk and didn't realize until months later (when I had time to reassemble my xr100) that in the box was the wrong head. I need help figuring out what engine this head is actually for and so I can properly get rid of it without screwing somebody else over. If anyone is interested in buying I'll sell it decently cheap. The valves seem to be in good condition, the gasket surface for the jug isnt perfect but it's definitely usable, and the valve cover gasket surface is near perfect. Please help me identify this head!!!
  7. Nostalgically bought this bike because it’s same model/year/size of what I had as a kid in the early 90s. I should have looked closer but was blind to its issues. Kid before removed tailpipe and put on a silly silencer which I just threw in the trash. Thankfully he kept track of OEM tail pipe but cut the end off of it.. I can only guess to make it louder. I have pipe back on bike but back pressure not good and sound not as tight as it should be. Does this need packing? Can I get a retrofit tip for the jagged 3” end?
  8. I have the xr350r, runs pretty good. In my search for a spare motor I found d a xr500r motor, same production year (83). My question is will the 500r fit on the 350 frame? The look almost exactly the same
  9. Hello! I know that this is posted in the XR600/650 section, but there was no 500 section. I am the proud owner of a 1983 XR500R, equipped with dual, progressive linkage carburetors and I'm having some very frustrating and confusing problems. Firstly, the idle speed changes when blipping the throttle. I will blip it and the idle speed will either decrease or increase each time it is blipped, sometimes going very high, mid, or going back to idling at a normal speed. As you can imagine this makes the bike very difficult to drive, as unless i blip the throttle multiple times to get it to idle right, the bike will carry on in 1st gear at around 15-20 mph without even touching the handlebars, meaning engine braking is nonexistent at low rpm. The throttle doesn't seem to be sticking, and the butterfly mounts for the cables are solid. Secondly, I am having issues with the floats. I tried setting them at first to factory spec (20 mm) at the highest (or lowest when installed) part of the floats and it poured fuel from the overflow tubes. I then set it at 20 mm at the back of the floats on the flat portion and it doesn't leak when running but will with the bike off. If i set them any higher it closes the needles all the time. I have replaced the float needles. When i got the bike the carburetor bodies were damaged, so I got a pair from a 1985 XR600R off eBay and didn't have either of these problems at the time. The bike then started suddenly pouring fuel from the overflow tubes a few weeks after I got them and it sat for about 4 months. After taking it out of the shed finally and cleaning the carbs real good and replacing the float needles, as well as messing with the float height it had the idling problem from the moment I started it up. Ive messed with the ratio screw and idle screw and nothing seems to be working. The jetting is 45 pilot, 100 primary on left carb and 128 on right carb, and I reside at about 5000 feet above sea level. The primarys are chewed up, looking as though somebody took some vice grips to them, but I don't see why that would affect the idle, and the bike runs very nicely otherwise. Thank you for your time, and any insight would be greatly appreciated, as I'm beginning to get very frustrated with the old girl.
  10. Xr 200r with a new top and bottom end all new cam and timing parts too is making this sound at low rpm. Sound in video Some help would be much appreciated:)
  11. This is my first time using one of these forums as I am a newbie to dirt bikes. I have had my 250 for about 2 years, has never blown any smoke. Went to take it out for a ride, checked the oil before I went, was a bit low. Topped it up. Ever since has blown thick smoke. Thought might have overfilled it. Drained it out (not changing the filter). Had about 150ml too much oil in it. Put back the 1.3l of oil the manual says to put in. Took it for a spin, still blew tonnes of smoke. When I leave it for the 5 mins before I check the oil, the smoke is completely gone, if I move the throttle the slightest amount, goes back to blowing heaps of smoke. Asked a couple of local mechanics, both are a bit stumped. Any help appreciated. Thanks
  12. Been a lurker here for awhile but I’ve never really posted, but I’ve been working on this little bike as a winter project and figured some of you might enjoy it the bike is a 84 xr200 frame with a 87 motor that’s bored to 205 with a hot cam in it and a wiseco high comp piston, it’s got stock forks ( for now) and an 89 xr250 rear shock, I welded up a straight pipe for it too, she purrs. (Sorry In advance I couldn’t resist a test ride even though it was muddy, so the bikes a little dirty)
  13. Hi, today I finally got the old Xr 100 out for a nostalgic ride. But when I did I noticed it was acting strange. When I would go up hill or use more then half throttle the bike would bog out. I don't know if this is a jetting problem, airbox or spark. I was running some 2 stroke gas that I mixed wrong in it, but it was like 32 ounces of the 2 stroke gas to one gallon of normal gas. Thanks for the help!
  14. Just got my oem bearings for the bottom end build of an xr80 and I just removed this bearing from the packaging. Couldn't help but to wonder weather this is a bad bearing or not because the balls rattle alot and it's noisy when I spin it. I took a video. Should I get a new one? Or is this normal?
  15. Hey all, I thought I would run something past you (anyone) about my plans on improving the amount of electrical juice I can squeeze out of my 97 Xr 600 R. This is my first post here, so apologies. I hope I can be half useful to someone else as this forum has been for me. Cheers. So, from what I can tell this 97 Honda is pretty much stock as it sits. I have a new 200 w dual output stator and reg/rec. The plan: 100 w wired to stock 3 wire harness, AC reg, ignition and running lights (maybe 55w bulb upfront to soak up any extra AC juice). Running lights to be always on with engine. They will not have any switches. The other 100 w will got to the DC system. Reg/Rec to battery and then switches, headlights (with hiLo) horn, indicators e.t.c. Grounded to the negative terminal on the battery. An almost separate system apart from its connection to the reg/rec. I'd be great if anyone had any advice, questions/comments. I have suss'ed out as much I can and at this seems to suit what I am looking for. (Providing it's all square and I am not missing something) AC over flow of power is delt with via the stock frame grounded system. What happens to extra DC power? Back through the reg/rec? Cheers, Jesse
  16. So I don't seem to find my specific issue so here I am asking. I have a 1997 Xr600r. It was recently re-jetted and has ran really well ever since until more recently it has begun to have this issue. Everything works fine. Kicks right away, nice and easy. Runs great, sounds great, purs. But when I'm downshifting and slowing down to a stop, if I let my hand off the throttle that's when it just dies. I found that I can counter this by lightly holding the throttle as I down shift (so I'm revving quite a bit during downshift). But it hadn't done this before. The only thing I've done that I suspect may have been an issue on my part was when I pulled out the engine to change the valve cover gasket and upon doing so perhaps when connecting the carb back to it, I may have missed something or made a crack in the boot? Any ideas? Thanks
