  1. Hey Guys and gals, I am having an issue setting up my lights and I am not sure what I'm missing. I have a 2001 Honda XR650R that was "made" street legal by the previous owner. I'm trying to add in front blinkers and when I hook up my front blinkers all the lights dim and the front don't flash or even power up. I am lost as to what I am doing wrong or if the battery pack I'm using does not produce enough amps to run the system. I will link the parts I'm using below and a diagram of how I'm attempting to wire it. Any Ideas or help would be much appreciated. Not sure on the Amp draw or limit on the items been digging just no luck as to what is being used or produced as of yet (blew my amp fuse in my meter being a dummy). http://a.co/7MFeePA Hand Switch http://a.co/9F5rcRT The Front Blinkers (shown to use 5.4w on 12v so I think about .5A) http://a.co/gQ1OTf7 Brake and blinker combo (25w so about 2.1A) http://a.co/2JRKUTj Horn (shown to use 1.5A) http://a.co/1i6wwGk Battery it produces 12v 15A output http://a.co/8Z1Z8iv How I get the power off battery cut in half and bullet crimped http://a.co/aXkrtgB Flasher relay (max 42W adjustable to .02A to 12A) http://a.co/8Z07FbJ Other flasher relay thinking other was the issue not the case Thanks, J

Super low mile XR650R 4 stroke dirt bike, same one that won many Baja 1000 races. Has the original rear tire with virtually no wear, just a couple scratches on plastic side plates etc. Engine is like new and starts 1st kick every time. CA title in hand and off road registration is current and valid til 2018. Engine cases show NO WEAR from boots...pretty rare to find one in this shape. Has the HRC uncorking kit and runs super nice and strong. $3995 FIRM, serious only please, no time wasters, no trades, no low ballers. This bike is NOT street legal, I have the bike in southern CA but will also be driving to Colorado soon and could possible bring it there... CALL 805 889 3340

  7. Hi, im new to this forum. I recently got me an NX650(euro), but i didnt check the bike properly before buying it. Found some faults driving it home. Welded sprocket and noisy 4th gear. 23K miles stock. Might be wrong forum, but its the same engine as xr650r if im not mistaken? This is my first rebuild, and it went somewhat bad. A couple of rounded allen bolts(rubber intake carb), bolt to head broke and rounded a allen when splitting the cases. Damages found so far - timing chain stretched, 4th gear broke, some scratches in cylinder, some scratches in oil pump, 4th gear broke. A lot of carbon build up in combustion chamber, guess oil have been burning. Cam and journal seems good. Rockers also seem good, hard to tell. Many pics, more upon request. Now that its teared down, i need some help with purchase list. I dont know what is smart to change while im rebuilding it. Im building bike for reliability - mainly commuting. Power is always welcome, but rather reliability. List; Poured some engine cleaner in combustion chamber and had it upside down over night. Valves didnt leak - guess they are OK? No need for re-seat? Is it necessary to change timing tensioner? Anymore seals or bearings i should change while im at it? Im guessing 4th gear breakdown is the reason for scratches in cylinder and oil pump. Found some metal parts. Why the exhaust valves have been running hot(white) is oil consumption due to scratches in cylinder? Teardown was "fun", looking forward to rebuild it and paint it. Ive done alot of research online, but feedback before rebuild is MUCH APPRECIATED.
  8. FYI - in case anyone is looking for a nice one. Ad says 155 original miles. Plated in FL. $5800 seems a bit high, but there probably aren't many like this around. https://orlando.craigslist.org/mcy/d/xr650r-honda-water-cooled-155/6263581029.html

  10. Hey all, I have got some carb trouble. I have been riding around my 2001 xr650r on roadtrips for about a year. Mostly up in northern california in the winter where its cold. With my FCR41 ive always had the issue where if i leave the petcock on, it wont start due to flooding. The bike runs great, just I have to turn off the petcock when doing ANYTHING.. like stopping to piss .. ANYTHING. I was on a recent trip through Arizona and Nevada a few weeks back and noticed that it was running super super hot. It was 115F outside, but the bike hit 250F on the vegas strip. Ive got a TT Vapor on there, so I am monitoring the water off the block. I have engine ice in it and a 1:8 cap. I figured with these two issues, its time to mess around with the carb. I pulled it apart and found that ive got a 160 main jet, 55 pilot jet and an OCEMP jet needle. The Needle clip was on 3/7 (from the top of the needle). So I set the needle clip to 5/7 and adjusted the float a tad leaner (its supposed to be 9mm). I also set the fuel screw to 2 turns out. Put it back together and MAN, the mid range really picked up. It also seemed to run a little cooler (around the 175F range). Problem is that when i roll off the throttle it bogs down to about 900RPM and then dies. If i keep on the gas, it does just fine. additionally, when on hills, it dies when i get to a stop on a hill (san francisco). Thinking that this is the float. Can anyone steer me in the right direction about the bogging and dying on hills when the throttle is off? It did not do this before the adjustment of the needle, float and fuel screw. I read that 55 is pretty rich for a pilot jet on this carb/bike. Seems most people run 45-48 pilot jet. My main is also pretty lean looking at 160 when most seem to be up in the 175-185 range. Thoughts?
  11. Hello all. My already strange moto year is turning a little stranger. At 55 y/o, I can't believe how dirt focused I'm becoming. Getting set to sell my weestrom and crf 250l soon. Bought a ktm xcfw350 earlier this year. But now, I'm contemplating an xr650r. I've never worked on carbed bikes. I'm sure it's not rocket science...and though there's gonna be a learning curve, I love learning and projects. I also have watched enough vids and read a number of threads; so I know some things about the bike. Not enough to scare me off...obviously. So I have two immediate choices if I buy - 2000 xr650r modded and ridden a good bit out West (Baja, Colo, Wyoming, etc) or 2000 xr650r Indiana with very low miles and almost no mods. Rebuilt forks and shock with Cannon Racing springs, new side panels, Pro Taper Evo bars, graphics, Zeta handguards with turn signals, new wheels and tires Tkc80, 4.3 gallon Clark tank, new shrouds, Baja Designs headlight shroud and lens with 7000 lumens Cyclops bulb, Ricky stator, Trail Tech Vapor etc. Waiting on XR's only pipe..... Completely uncorked before I began this round of work. Now for the frustrating part, rebuilt the carb, cleaned and put in new seals. Jetting 68s with 175 main. Now it runs like poo. Starts great with choke all the way up. When I go to half choke, it revs really high and does not come down ...... any thoughts? I am not very good at carb work ...... yet

Hello Thumpertalk Community, My First Post here and i'm going to start with a Big one... for me at least. On my 2005 XR650r wich is an ED Type i guess? (Bought in Germany i think(2nd Owner)) My Stock Stator somehow broke after long investigations a specialized company found out that one of the Coils wich is responsible for the Ignition is broken. Repairing would've cost me about 300€ (~280$ i guess?) and a compleatly new OEM would've cost me 600€ wich is why i bought a RickyStator from Xr'sOnly after a good month the stator arrived (due to customs) and as i Wanted to Replace the old one i noticed a big problem: The OEM Stator has wiring wich looks like this: A multi caple Plug with 5 Cables in it. 2 Cables for the ignition. The RickyStator one Looks like this: 8-10 Loose Cables of wich 2 where in a MultiCable Plug Ignition Cables are Known Dosn't fit but i got a question Would the Bike run if i only run the Ignition Cables? Does every cable have to do 1 exact "job" or are the rest of those wich arn't igniton cables only for supplying the rest of the bike with the 12 Volts? Anyone had the same or similar Problem? Pliz halp am only good with mechanical problems not with electrical stuff Thank you in Advance i guess

Well cared for 2001 XR650R for sale. I am the original owner and bought it new in Feb 2002. Don't know exactly how many miles are as they didn't come with odometers but I would estimate 5-7K. Lots of upgrades including Clark 4.3g tank, Cycra Handguards, Magura oversize bars, excel rims front and back, skid plate, radiator guards and a scotts damper sub mount (mount only), rear disk guard and oversize springs. I still have the original parts I took off so going back to stock spring rate/gas tank/skidplate/... wouldn't be a problem. The bike is 100% ready to ride - chain and sprockets are in good shape, wheel, shock and swingarm bearing are all tight. Doesn't smoke or leak fluids

  15. I am installing a new Ricky Stator 200W unit on a 2006 XR650R. I plan on using the dual 100w channel setup. I am currently seeing 10 volts out of the current stock AC regulator and the manual calls for 14. My question is should I be ordering up a new AC regulator or should I slam dunk the new stator in and see if that brings the volts up? Thanks in advance
  16. Are you running an HRC copy cam from XRsOnly/Four Strokes unlimited? You better fix it now before it is too late. See this: https://www.thumpertalk.com/forums/topic/1218565-xrsonly4-strokes-unlimited-does-not-want-to-be-in-business-anymore/
  17. Hi all! This question has been asked but it was way back when. I'm about to buy a new (for me) bike. I've done endless research and narrowed my options down to: DRZ400s, KTM 690 Enduro ®, Honda XR650R and BMW Xchallenge. As you can see I'm looking for the lightest big singles and the reason for this is that ill be doing a lot of thick sand, mud and the likes type of riding. 10min to work and another 10 back on tar everyday. Open gravel, sand, muddy terrain every weekend and long holidays up in Africa. Found two bikes for sale: KTM 690 enduro R, 2011 model, 30 000km, with a few extras for R43000 (3050 USD) Honda XR650R, 2005 model, 11500km, loads of extras, already roadworthy, bike in mint condition R55000 (3890 USD) Which one of the two would you choose? (keep in mind that here in SA both honda and Ktm are plentiful) Attached are two photos of the bikes.

  21. Hi lads! I'm rebuilding the top and bottom end of my 03 XR650R (13.500km) and there's a few things I need to ask: - rod can move a bit horisontally ... I figure it should be changed before all hell breaks loose, but would like your view on this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jy4jvG9Kif0 - when rotating the intake valve rocker arm, I can feel it rotates in grooves, not smooth. It's not loose in any way, I can just feel there are some notches in the rotation (not sure how to explain it properly) Should the shaft be replaced? The exhaust rocker arms doesn't have this ... - should I replace the valve springs? (didn't measure them yet!) Would like all the wearable components to have the same life span, so maybe this would be a good idea, even if they are within spec? - in replacing the original rod, and perhaps piston, for lighter aftermarket parts (Falicon rod and Wossner piston) does the crank need any re-balancing, or is this totally neglectable? - also, I live in Vietnam, and I'm not sure exactly how delicate a procedure it is to press the crank with a new rod. The machine shops here may not be the best in the world. Anything I should be aware of, when looking over their shoulder? - I've measure the original piston, and it seems to be slightly oval. Is this normal? Is it to allow for material expansion? Or is it shot? - does the piston look ok? It has some pitting on the top edge, but it's not really worn as far as I can tell ... The Wossner piston kit is $165, so I'd much rather keep the original, if it's good. - Here's the bore. The top seems worn. I'm considering an XR's Only sleave, as I don't have 100% faith in the quality of local materials. Any experience with this sleave? What's the strange edge at the top? Is it supposed to be there, or did the previous owner sleave that little edge at the top? - Is this notch supposed to be there? Looks like it's been ground to make room for something, but there's nothing down there to make room for?? - The thermostat looks bent inside it's cap ... Is that normal, or is it shot? The camchain tensioner arm ... Worn or fine? I'm changing all bearings, o-rings, seals, gaskets, valves (+seals and guides) while it's cracked open. Anything else I should look at, to make sure everything is pristine before I close her up? Many thanks in advance!
  22. MOD, please delete this post! Thanks
  23. Just curious if any of you have ridden both of these bikes back to back to compare their power. I am looking at a 2003 XR650R that is uncorked, running a pro circuit pipe, etc. I test drove a KTM 525 EXC that was completely stock yesterday and was totally unimpressed with the power output. My YZ 250 would eat it for lunch in acceleration!!! The XR is 7 hours away and I'd hate to go all that way for the same impression. Any input would be appreciated.
  24. El Cheapo Partial Header Wrap - An Edelbrock installed on a Honda XR650R rests painfully close to the stock header. One cheap method of isolating heat from the bowl is to pick up a muffler patch kit from your local auto parts store. These kits contain a piece of foil backed fiberglass insulation, screen and glue (the glue you don't need) and sell for under five dollars. A can of flat black header paint can be used to spray the foil and screen and stainless steel zip ties will look better than the tie wire I used. After cutting the insulation and screen to size, I wrapped some heavy duty aluminum foil around the header, followed by the fiberglass, then screen, then tie wired it all together. The wrap in the photos has been on the bike for 2 years and other than needing some spray paint touching up, is still working fine. The fiberglass insulation will soak up water, so after washing your bike, be sure to run it long enough to burn off any water collected. Special thanks to Dafna for taking and posting photo's.
