  1. Ok, I idolize, worship the new 2018 YZ450F (new for me because I bought it late in the year). Haven't had any starting issues or had to use the new starter plunger until the winter temperatures crept in. I keep it in an off and on heated garage, but in the morning it's cold, and would not start so easily anymore as it did in the summer, where I never before had to use the starter circuit. The F.S.M says to push the plunger all the way in, then hit the starter, and let the engine run/rev at 3000-5000rpm!!! for 1-2 minutes. Then, your supposed to operate the throttle, as the chop throttle direction is supposed to kick the plunger back out to its N.O.T. position. I did exactly this, but, when I operate the throttle, the throttle close direction DOESN'T kick the plunger back out. The engine was revving at about 3100rpm for only about 40 seconds, when, to my dismay, I looked down at the engine & exhaust pipe; the exhaust pipe exiting the cylinder port was glowing so hot I swear it was almost molten! Screaming inside my head, I quickly grabbed a pair of long slip joint pliers to pull the plunger back out (or else I'd no doubt brand myself on the glowing exhaust), and the motor rpm dropped to a more conventional warm/idle up speed. I then had to accelerate the water pump briefly, then cut the engine. I waited a few seconds, and started it up again, and varied the throttle slightly. I repeated this a few times in order to cycle the motor, and safely remove the heat conduction thru the cylinder head. My YZ450F runs great, post incident, and has more power than ever now. My only issue is now I have to always have a pair of pliers when cold starting the powerhouse, because the throttle and starter plunger still don't communicate. I DON'T let it run for more than like 15 seconds on fast idle anymore. My question is, WHY did the pipe heat up so much if that is how long it's recommended to fast idle, AND does anyone else have this issue with their starter plunger sticking, or had their pipe heat up orange hot? I went to the dealership to correspond with the mechanics there and no one was able to give me any information. Please, ONLY 2018+ YZ450F owners need reply on this thread, as it is a BRAND NEW starting device on a fuel injected engine for Yamaha, so other instances or experiences will not apply.
  2. Hi I was wondering if y’all have been using a 450 on your YZ250F?
  3. Just got a new perch , clutch cable is good but the hotstart cable is short just a little , and i think I have the motion cable adjusted all the way out , ideas on how i can get just a little slack so I can get the ball in the lever ?how much force should I have to use to pull it in place ?
  4. Hello, could someone tell me how can you select the mappings of my yz450f 2019 between 1 and 2 once you have loaded the bike from the yamaha power tuner app? I was trying to press the handlebar button that is on the left side but the only thing I can activate is the launch control. In the application it appears as if map number 1 is loaded and number 2 is also, but I can not select the one I want when I go out to ride. I do not know how to change the mappings. I hope you can help me. Thank you so much.
  5. Hey guys, it's been about 3 months since I bought my new yamaha yz450f and today it has about 21 hours of use. Now, the other day climbing a dune the motorcycle began to make a strange noise only when the motorcycle runs in the 4th gear (in the rest of the gears it does not happen) everything indicates that the gear of the 4th gear was broken or that He moved. Did anyone else happen to this or just me? The motorcycle has only 21 hours incredible that a 0km motorcycle breaks the transmission only climbing in dunes. What do you think it could be? What should I do in this situation? Change brand and buy Honda or Kawasaki? I do not know. I am very disgusted and frustrated with the brand for now and with this happening on a completely new motorcycle. I await your fellow responses. Thank you
  6. Hello guys my name is Lachlan, so recently the stock exhaust wrap which is a metal gauze sort of wrap that stops vibration and a major exhaust leak located not from far from the headder unit and the slip-on section has come lose and fallen out, this was resolved by re-applying a new sort of engineered fiberglass exhaust wrap. 3 to 4 months later it has come lose and fallen out, we have tried many options regarding re-applying the wrap but I have failed to succeed in doing so. I am seeking help from individuals located on this website, I am looking for methods and preferences related to application. Note: -I do not own OEM exhaust -YOSHIMURA (09YZ450F) -Clamp holds to metal but does not compress metal to metal sandwiching the wrap
  7. Hello Just wondering if anyone has any 2018/ 2019 electric start parts available? New or used. Working or broken? Thanks in advance Moderators. Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong section. Kind Regards Michael
  8. Greetings, I have broken 3 of these shafts on my 2003 YZ450F. I am wondering if there is a combination of parts i can buy to convert it into a newer shaft or if a newer shaft will fit? I know I know, i shouldn't start the bike with the throttle open, but its force of habit as being an old school two stroke guy. I purchased a complete assembly off a 2006 and it will not fit in my case, it is 20mm thick not 16mm thick like the 2003 shaft. Also if anyone is selling some parts, i am interested. Any help is much appreciated.
  9. After 20 years of riding YZ250F's (2), 450F's (2), and 450FX (1) plus three (3) DRZ400's I'm going down today to load up a 125X. I love the 450FX in the desert (winter) but at 61 it's getting too much for my single track Forest Service trails (summer). As I said - I'm 61 yrs. old, 5'6", 150 lbs., retired and ride a couple times a week. My concern with the 125X (at this point) is lowering and jetting. Where I'm at in Arizona I'm riding close to sea level but in June I move to 7200 ft. Any advice?
