I love this bike. I have to get used to it because I went from a 2018 SSR 125 4 Stroke to this beast and the powerband is crazy and a more responsive throttle. If anyone has any good tips or just wants to comment about it feel free. I love good info and tips that will help the bike and myself. I basically stole this bike at a price of 1200 running and ready to ride. Just some minor things like needs new brake pads upfront and new levers. I just replaced the radiator fluid. Also gonna bleed the brake system and put some new fluid. -

Great bike monster power delivery after you install stage 1HotCams setup both camshafts exhaust and intake starts first are second kick rode new 2015 450 and believe they both have same amount of horsepower but power delivery is a little different on the both the only downfall is the yz426F is a bit on the heavy side and bike sets way to high unless you're 6ft are taller but besides some down falls its a pretty indestructible bike for being a 2002 model perfect for motocross are a good in the woods trial bike you either love the bike are hate the bike for me its a great all around motocross machine but really wish it set lower to the ground that's the only downfall that I hate the most of the Yz426F so im finished talking about the 2002 Yamaha yz426F im out peace sincerely Andrew Schmeerbauch. 6/18/2015

-

Hi. Im new to the thumpertalk, i've read many threads about reliability of 426 and so i became proud member of one made in 02. Traded it for beat up isuzu trooper... bike has blown up on second ride... I have a guy rebuild my whole engine. I was guided by this amazing site in choosing right parts and manufacturers. I have recently converted to street legal. And here is my question. How much life can i expect from this bike ? I change oil every 5 tanks, motul 7100 10w40 and clean air filter every couple of rides. I dont ride hard, mostly dirt road, some tarmac, single trails, etc... i know that this reliability thing has been talked over many, many times over and over. But since last tbread couple of years has past. And i cant stop wondering how do these dinosaurs hold up compared to new modern 450s and 500s, wr, exc, etc. And im also looking for advice about starting... i dont think i need autodecomp, i can find tdc easily, and i know the drill, bike is setup corectly. Problem is that im 168cm and 53kg... i can start it standing on the pegs, but when i dont have tree to support me, then no luck... i was thinking about making compresion little lower or something... what i havent found anywhere is info about autodecomp... will it just stop the bike at tdc +1 and thats it ? So it is just as hard to turn over as with manual decomp ? Thank you for advice. If is this in bad category, or is irelevant, please let me know, i will remove this post. As i said, this is my first post on TT. Ps: hats down for this amazing comunity you have here.

My buddy thinks his 97 yz 250 2 stroke would beat the 01 yz426f I am getting. As far as I know the 426 is stock with just an aftermarket exhaust. The 250 has v force 3, I think 51 rear sprocket not sure of front, has pro circuit exhaust to. I weigh around 180 and he weighs around 150. Who would win on takeoff and top end???

Hey Guys, i've noticed a ticking noise when i'm moving my bike around. It's quite loud and i thought it was just the chain on front sprocket but on closer inspection the sound does not match the rotation of sprocket tooth/chain so it really must be coming from the sprocket shaft inside the gearbox. Having never had this box apart and facing a mammoth task if i do so, would anyone have some advice or history with this? is it normal? wear and tear and to be ignored? or is it undercutting/mis-alignment of gears and about to grenade on me?

About a month ago, I dropped an exhaust valve. I then bought a WR426 head, brand new Wiseco Piston, Intake and Exhaust HotCams, and a new spark plug. Just to clear it up, it is a YZ426 bottom end on a WR426 head and WR426 valves. Valves were professionally shimmed. The only thing from the WR426 is the head and valves, rest is either new or from the original YZ426. The engine is now built, torqued to spec, and kicks over easily. Problem is, it will not start. I have spark, fuel, and air. Carb was not touched, other than taken off and put back on. It will backfire every so often, and it is extremely loud, never heard my bike do this before, but it shows I have combustion. There's some theory's I have, such as the pilot jet in the carb, since it sat for a month it could of got clogged. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thank you guys, I'll be in touch!

I’m new here, new to bikes as well, I got into it about 6 months ago... I’m pretty mechanically inclined, I’ve work on trucks since I could reach the gas pedal. Anyways I bought a 2001 YZ426F About a month ago, I worked my way up from my buddies junked xr100 that I brought back to life, going up in CC about every month. I changed the oil and air filter on it, it’s got decent compression from what I can tell, it starts on the second kick with the choke pulled.. my concern is that the oil I put in it about a month ago is still about as clean and gold as the day I put it in, which leads me to believe the oil isn’t flowing properly.. I’ve only rode it maybe 5-6 times since I changed the Oil, maybe for 30 minutes to an hour each time depending on my schedule.. I’m just trying to find a potential problem before it grenades, or just put my mind at ease if it’s got stellar oil usage. Thanks
