  1. Well I just got my XR400R (aka Ranger) converted to DC, added a horn, stop light, license light and mirror then took it for inspection last Saturday. It passed just fine DESPITE the inspector stating that I was missing a bunch of stuff (like turn signals and hi-beam). Told ya ... I know the regulations straight from DMV dude. So now that I have it ready to ride, I decided to bite the bullet and order a complete adventure setup with all the armor. OUCH! Hurt the balance but it will be more than worth it. Went with the AS Andes V2 with the nucleon back, chest and hip inserts. I'll update my thread once I receive it and let everyone know how it fits and works together. They state that the sizes run small so I went super big on the size (2XL jacket 3XL pant) to make sure that there is plenty of room for me, my clothes and the padding. Some selling points - the jacket zips to the pants across the back, waterproof liner, thermal liner (removable), removable protection inserts (all CE approved) and good venting that will keep you cool in the summer. I'm really looking forward to getting it all and trying it out So what adventure gear are you sporting?
  2. Last year my dad and I drove from Ohio to Utah to ride the Paiute Trail. After the first 20 miles we fell in love and swore we would go back. While we were staying the night in Salina we saw a group of RZRs pull in late at night and when we asked the hotel manager she said they came from Moab. Obviously, this had us interested. This year we are wanting to ride from Moab to the Paiute trail, do the whole loop, then riding back to the truck in Moab. I am having trouble finding info on how to go about doing this and was hoping someone had and could give us some ideas/tips. We ride a wr and yz 250f, both have 3.5 gal tanks and we carry an additional .5 gal number plate tank. Both bikes have about a 110 mile range if babied.
  3. HELLO EVERYBODY, I FIGURED I'D START A THREAD ABOUT MY PERSONAL BETA 500 RR-S, AS WELL AS MY WIFES BETA 125RR-S: I HAVE BEEN POSTING ON OTHER PEOPLES THREAD GIVING MY OPINIONS AND THOUGHTS ON THIS BIKE SO HERES ONE ABOUT MY EXPERIENCES WITH IT. I'M FROM LONG BEACH CALIFORNIA, AS OF RIGHT NOW, I'M 41 YRS OLD, I'M IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY; FIRST AS THE KID THAT RAN AROUND HELPING THEN AS A SKILLED LABORER, THEN A FOREMAN AND SUPERINTENDENT, I WENT TO ARCHITECTS SCHOOL TO BE TRAINED TO BECOME A BLUEPRINT DRAFTSMAN, AND NOW ALSO REAL ESTATE SALES AGENT, BUT I STILL FEEL THAT IM JUST A GLORIFIED DITCH DIGGER, BECAUSE I LOVE A CHALLENGE AND HARD WORK. I GREW UP RIDING BMX SINCE I WAS 3, MY FIRST BIKE WAS SOME RACY RABBIT BIKE, THEN A HARO FST, A HARO MASTER, SE QUADANGLE, BOSS XXL, ALLIANT BILLET 24", AND NOW I STILL RIDE BMX FREESTYLE WITH A SUBROSA PANDORA DTT. AND MX SINCE I WAS ABOUT 10 ON A 79 YZ80, THEN A 88 KX80 BIG WHEEL, KX 125, A COUPLE OF CR250'S, AND THEN A 2003 CRF450R. IN 2005 I SUFFERED THROUGH A MAJOR INJURY, AND SUBSEQUENT SURGERIES TO HELP ME WALK AGAIN, SO I BASICALLY QUIT RIDING DIRTBIKES UNTILL 2017 THROUGHOUT THIS TIME I FOUGHT THRU 28 SURGERIES ON MY FEET AND ANKLES, BUT I CONTINUED TO SCUBA DIVE AND SURF, AS THE OCEAN WAS REALLY GOOD FOR ME TO HEAL, THE PACIFIC IS LIKE A REALLY NICE COLD EPSOM SALT BATH FOR MY ENTIRE BODY, THEN EVENTUALLY I STARTED TO RIDE BICYCLES AND DO SOME HIKING, AND WEIGHT TRAINING, AND STRETCHING. FOR MY 41ST BIRTHDAY I MAXED OUT ON BENCH 255 POUNDS FOR 5 REPS AND DID WHAT WAS IN THE PIC BY MYSELF, AND SQUATED THAT 100 POUNDS FOR 100 REPS THEY ALMOST CHOPPED OFF MY FOOT AND TOLD ME I'D NEVER WALK WITHOUT CRUTCHES, BUT GOD IS GOOD, AND SO NOW I COUNT MY BLESSINGS. THERE IS NO WHERE TO RIDE DIRTBIKES AROUND HERE IN MY HOMETOWN SO I NEEDED SOMETHING WITH A PLATE. SO I GOT MY 500 RR-S ON VALENTINES DAY 2017, HENCE THE NAME VALENTINA, I GOT HER FROM MOUNTAIN MOTORSPORTS IN ONTARIO FOR WHAT I BELIEVE IS A VERY GOOD PRICE. FIRST I'M GONNA DO SOME COPY AND PASTING OF SOME PAST POSTS

  5. We, my wife and I, are newbies to the realm of Adventure bikes. We are not new to riding varying types of machines, as we enjoy most of the riding styles out there. Riding trails was our preference for decades, but we ran out of new trails to ride then expanded into Dual Sport riding to provide ourselves with more options. This was fantastic for some years, trekking into the mountain road systems we had yet to explore beyond where we could access with our 4x4 pickup. We started bike packing and camping using the bikes instead of the same ol’ pickup type camping. After many miles explored around the Pacific Northwest we wanted more and were getting bored with trailering the Dual Sport’s down the interstate, traveling to the next best area that drew us in. The crux, in our view, was that our DS machines kept getting smaller as our range grew larger. Being somewhat frugal we wanted to get more carrying capacity and a more comfortable ride, at a cost we could easily afford. It’s pretty much the same way we arrived at the DS machines we have now. Enter the 2017 Africa Twin, the initial cost was attractive on a machine that was far more suited toward our desires than the DS offerings we own. We knew they would require more equipment and setup, but we still had money on the table after the purchase and the Africa Twin possessed the desired base platform. The AT's are 200+ lbs heavier than our current Dual Sport bikes, but they aren’t light either. Taking into consideration where we ride when we say bike packing, we don’t see where the extra weight will detract from what we expect, and enjoy doing, when we head up into the mountains for the weekend away from the metropolis. This thread will contain our story down this path as we put some time on these machines and see if they live up to our expectations. We invite all positive comments from those interested in this realm of biking and will answer any questions you may have along the way…if/when we can. If you have any interest in the Africa Twin stay tuned: There will be more content coming in the near future.

  7. Hello friends, Just thought I'd share a short summary video of a 154-mile adventure ride my buddy and I did last week. Northeastern AZ has an unbelievable amount of rural trail/road to explore. My KLX300R averaged 71.5 MPG on this ride.
  8. After a front end event - i have a leaky tank, seeps from the rear left hand skirt under the seat. I have used various tank products but still getting seepage, Not really ready to fork out the £1200 odd they want for a new tank - not willing to give up my LC4 adventure just yet - so seeking a solution - someone with a second hand tank - one of the aftermarket tanks (no worry about color) ideas about getting it welded or recommendations about tank repair in the UK.
  9. I know this isn't an XR but there isn't an area for XL's so here goes. If there's any better place for or other places to post this please let me know. ANYWAY, I have recently taken up the project of making a rack for my XL600R to mount a helmet box and some custom Pannier boxes, out of a shopping cart. Yes, a Walmart shopping cart. Currently I have cut the hand-hold of the cart down to be the base and to attach to the frame (kind of looks like a Foot box wheelie bar), and two pieces of flat from either side of the cart. Pictures should be attached.

    DRZ 400 Rally

Hi everyone, I am curently building my bike for light adventure riding. I am making a contraption that I would like to call a rally fairing. I am showing you what I have made so far. For the build; - oversize GPI racing radiators - oversize gaz tank - fuel pump - swapping the speedometer by a vapor - custom made bracket for fairing - fiberglass fairing/windsheild I have not adressed the wide ratio issue since I just completely rebuild the engine last winter. I got a 39 teeth sproket for highway speed. I have no experience whatsoever with fiberglass, any input would be apreciated. Thanks for the interest.

  12. Hello friends, It's so nice to have finally found a riding buddy who's as interested as I am. We've been doing these weekly 5am rides, and this past week I lead the way while looking for elk and elk sign. We had a fun ride. Here's a video with a few of the highlights from the ride:
  13. The Tacoma Motorcyle Club is hosting their first Dual Sport Tour of the Cascade Mountains on July 29th, 2017! This will start and finish in Easton, Wa. See the flyer for details. Should be a great ride!
  14. The first year I owned my 250L, I gooned around in supermoto trim 100% of the time. If I wanted to ride off-road I would trailer my dirt bike since there are no extensive public trails within 1 hour of my home. 6 months ago I wore out my street supermoto tires again. Got busy, never ordered replacements so I swapped over to the stock wheels and tires. I started venturing further out to do more off-road. This eventually led to rim locks, better tires, skid plate, full RaceTech suspension and some supplemental luggage. The luggage I've been carrying is basic. Wolfman enduro tank bag, Wolfman fender bag, Wolfman bottle holder with 1L of extra fuel. I also ride with an off brand CamelBak. I carry basic tools, 1 spare tube and 2 spoons, phone, charger, air pressure guage, bike pump, zip ties, GoPro stuff. I'm getting bored of the local riding area and I want to start taking full day trips. I ride alone most of the time, I probably prefer it even. My questions: What is your must have gear for day trips that might also fit in my current bare bones luggage? I don't want more bags. I don't have rain gear except for my tank bag. I figure if it's calling for rain I'm not going and if it rains late in the day, I'm headed home. Bad idea? Do any of you trailer your bike to get closer to the action? Most of the riding I want to do is in the mountains of NC. I'm about 1.5-2 hours east of the roads I'm trying to get to. That's an extra 3+ hours of riding to get to the good spots and get home! What do you use for GPS? I use google maps on my phone typically. However I don't expect to have service in some locations. Does anyone use a device like the Garmin InReach? My wife would prefer I get one of those since I ride alone and will be on remote forest roads. Thanks for the advice.

    Help Drz400sm won't start!

Hey guys really need some advice. I parked my bike in the garage the other day running just fine, but today when I went to hop on it it would not start. It turns over like a top, but won't even try to start. List of things I have tried. i removed the spark plug and replaced it. Also made sure I had spark. i tried spraying starter fluid inside carb with no result. I removed both the clutch and kickstand safety. I also just tried roll starting it. It was turning over but once again did not even try to start up. please help I do not know what else to try or check thanks!
