  1. Hello. I was putting the first ride on a new top end on my bike last Thursday. I landed an jump and my bike bogged out like it ran out of gas. I assumed it fouled the plug and went to change it. When I got to my car I took the plug out and it had great spark. I tore into it the next day. Everything in the carb seemed fine. I took the air filter off, still wouldn’t start. I checked to see if the reed valves were damaged, nope. I even took the exhaust off to see if it had somehow clogged. After all this I still can’t figure out what is wrong with it. I poured some gas down the spark plug hole and it still wouldn’t run. There is no reason why this bike shouldn’t run yet it won’t. Any and all help will be appreciated. My only guesses is there’s something up with the carb or there’s no spark under compression. I’m grasping at straws here.
  2. Has anyone tried using Athena power valves in an OEM cylinder? Everywhere it states "for Athena cylinder only", yet on Amazon, it states that they're good for both OEM and Athena applications. I've seen both (not side by side, unfortunately), and they looked pretty similar. Didn't take measurements, although I should've. I have read of people trying this but not actually running it. Just was wondering if anyone has experience with this. Thanks in advance!
  3. Greets to all. I'm about to install an Athena BB kit on my S. Kit comes with a single layer base gasket an gives 12.3:1 compression ratio. I've been thinking about bumping up the compression a bit. No budget available for a hi-comp piston, so I was thinking of machining the cylinder face down a couple of tenths of a millimeter. I have access to machinery needed for the task, so cost is out of the question. Will check piston-to-deck height and all before proceeding. My main concern is the nikasil coating, actually the point it "finishes" at the top of the bore. There's a chamfer right there, measures over half a mm high, so could easily be ok. But I need confirmation, wouldn't want to ruin my BB. Anyone done that before? Any problems with it? Thanks in advance. Lefteris.
  4. I have a 2011 yz125 with a athena cylinder and piston. For The Athena Head you need a flat topped piston. I am curious for the future if there are any Forged Flat topped pistons made by any of the main brands. (Wisco, Pro X, etc.) I can only find domed pistons. Athena only makes Cast pistons for this kit, So i'm just wondering for the future. Thanks
  5. I’m doing my first top end and I think I might need new plating, it seems to be partly worn on the exhaust bridge. I can only feel a few light scratches with my fingernail on the exhaust side of cylinder. I also know you can see how the engine in running by the carbon patterns on the piston. Does mine show anything? Any input helps👍
  6. Hi TT, Has anyone had experience with the bigger CC kits before? Im installing a Athena 480CC big bore kit on my WR450 and im wondering if a jetting upgrade is required or if i can just tweak the air/fuel mixture? Any help is appreciated. Thanks Ben
  7. My 2011 YZ250 is undergoing a full engine and chassis rebuild and I have decided to go with a 300 kit (the bike needs a new cylinder anyway so this is a good time to do it). The current YZ250 power curve/delivery is good so i'm not aiming to create a torque monster that doesn't rev, just looking to add more power throughout the current range. I primarily ride MX, intermediate level. My questions for those run an Athena 300 kit are below: Has it been reliable? Is there in increase in bottom end/crank problems? What pipe/jetting do you run/recommend (for MX, 0-1500ft altitude)? Anything I need to watch out for during install (I've heard Athena circlips are bad)? Did you have custom porting done and if so who do you recommend for that? What octane of fuel do you run? Thanks in advance!
  8. Hi guys, i have recently just bought a 2004 yamaha yz125, it has an athena 144cc big bore kit. The bike runs great! It has a loud knocking sound coming from top end but vibrates the clutch plate too. It speeds up when revved but goes quieter, also the sound dampens when the clutch is pulled in. The sound wasn't there when i bought the bike, then the knocking came after the second time of taking the bike out just up a lane. I have taken it out once to a proper track with this knocking sound and no problems or changes occured. By reading up it could be piston slap, but also many other problems. I don't know how long for sure the kit has been on the bike but the fella who i bought it from said "i think a year", but don't know of any care to the bike within that year because he was selling it for a friend. If any of you could help that would be great! And do i need to be majorly worried about this? Thanks
  9. Hi All - I picked up a 2019 YZ250x with 6 hours on it earlier this year. It already had an Athena 300 kit installed when I'd gotten it. I've since put an additional 18 hours on it. Most of those hours have been slow, very technical, single track riding from my cabin at 4000 ft. Most of the hours I've used redline at 40:1; but recently switched to 2R at 32:1. Have been running 91 octane California gas (ethanol). I popped off the head this evening just to take a look at it. Head is super clean. Piston has some smegma carbon build up, but I could scrape most of it off with my finger nail. Makes sense given the riding I do. Probably need to lean it out some more. Or ride faster. But take a look at the cylinder. Note the scoring and what appear to be.... water spots? I've not seen spots like this before. Neither the scoring nor the spots will catch my nail, but seems concerning nonetheless. Thoughts or suggestions? Would you button this back up and run it? Appreciate any help you can provide!
  10. I have a athena 125 kit on my yz125. I'm doing a rebuild but I don't know if I need athena gaskets or if oem work. If anyone knows that would be much appreciated. Aaron
  11. hi guys and gals, i got a 2014 yz125 that i just burnt the rings on last wednesday. itll start and run but compression is low. it has an athena 144 big bore, and the motor was completely reworked by lynks racing. now, my issue is that it was still smoking like you’d expect of a two stroke. i am running 40:1 with 89 octane non-ethanol and interceptor oil by amsoil. usually i wouldnt think its abnormal to need to rebuild a 2 stroke, especially when you’re keeping the throttle in the top 25% for most of your practice... however... there was only about 12 hours on the top end. i don’t mind buying rings for a rebuild, but id like to get more that 4 practices out of the bike before the top end goes. what do y’all suggest i change? premix ratio, fuel, oil? btw, im also using about 2 cups of VP 2t to every tank of gas and keep the air filter clean after every ride. thank you for any advice you can give me! i love this bike with every bit of my being and would just like it to last a little longer

    RMZ 290 Kit

    Hi all! has anyone put the 290 Athena big bore kit on their 2012 era rmz250? If you have, does it come with another coupler to replace the standard ones? How does the ecu know that it’s 290 cc and keep it running smoothly with correct air fuel requirements? Thanks!
