  1. Hi I am new at this site, have few question bought the Kit 557071 Baja desings squadron sports and dont know how connect this kit on my dirt bike(450x 2012), i already blow 1 kit because it says plugh & play but the Bd is DC and i connect it to AC :S, I have installed on my dirt bike trail tech regulator and stator https://www.trailtech.net/media/wysiwyg/pdf/010-ELV-63.pdf I see on the regulator theres a red cable that says Note: Connecting your stock lighting to switched DC power will operate the lights without the use of an on/off switch. The lights will turn on and shut off with the motor operation Do i need to connect the Bdesing to that connection ? Already test the red cable on other led lights and it work but really dont know, the output watts
  2. Okay so I just upgraded my taillight to an Edge 2 with the 120clock labs processor board for signals and I've been rocking an upgraded led hi/low bulb in my stock housing for a couple years now and I'd like to upgrade. I searched on here and found 50 different options all with varying success. I was thinking that we might be able to compile all of the options and accessories needed for install all in to one place. Maybe even if we could link them all from here that would be a start. I'm going to do a few that I found and anyone else that has upgraded and posted about it please post up and let us know the positives and negatives. I'm currently leaning towards the 6100 on ebay but they are out of stock. Xprite 6100: Baja Squadron Pro: 4x6 LED housing: JNS Engineering: Custom Projector:
  3. With a little arm twisting I was able to talk my good buddy Eric and another guy we ride with Mick into racing the 1000. It went like this. Hey Eric this year is the 50th anniversary of the Baja 1000 and you'll also be turning 50 so I think this is a sign we should finally do this. His reply was a simple "Hell yes!". Since than we've created a team of 4. We've all deposited some cash and booked our rooms for the week in November. Which was hard to do as everything is pretty much sold out. I know it's still early to post but as fast as life is going these days it'll be here before we know it. Anyways we started a Facebook page if you wanna follow along. https://m.facebook.com/Tortuga-Racing-1353541868059985/ Keep the smart a$$ comments to yourself. We are all experienced riders, understand the crazy amount money we are going to spend, and physical demand it will require. But if any of you experienced guys wanna chime in with advice, we are all ears.
  4. Hey all, I utilize a Baja Light Kit but am looking to add a rear brake light in addition to just the turn signals which come along with the Baja kits. Theoretically, can I utilize a Tusk rear fender brake light in conjunction with the Baja system. It seems to me that I would have to employ two different switching systems on my handlebars to allow this as well as wire the rear fender brake light in a different way. Am I just a little crazy in the attempt of something like this?
  5. Looking for suggestions on outfitters that organize multi-day baja-style trips, in Baja or California. Have a group of guys looking for a fun multi-day experience. Skill levels and experience vary greatly, so would need to factor that in. No one would be bringing their own bike, so the outfitter would need to supply the bikes and gear. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
  6. Just curious if it’s worth it since it is a bit pricy! Also looking if someone can explain exactly how they work what do they do internally that in return gives “results”. It making the riding experience smoother.
  7. Hi all! First time poster. Go easy on me. I'm a long time dirt bike rider from the Mt. Hood, OR area, though I've never competed except for a couple flat track races on vintage Yamaha XS650s. A long time goal of mine is to build a team and race in the Baja 1000. I'm hoping to find a motorcycle team heading to Baja in 2019 or 2020 that I can join (the SF250, Baja 500 or 1000) as a member of the support crew. I figure joining a crew would be a great way to get a lay of the land down there, understand the race and logistics and the process, and just learn from those that know. I'd prefer to join a motorcycle team, but any team would really do for the first time down there. Background on me: my dad has been a mechanic for over 40 years, he got me started wrenching on things when I was young, and I still rebuild motors regularly (2t and 4t singles, and multi cylinder vintage bikes). I think I can handle most things on a pit crew: tire/wheel swaps, fuel, minor wrench and repairs, etc. I've ridden Honda, Yamaha, KTM, Husky, and Husaberg and have pretty solid familiarity with their thumpers. Currently I'm on a 300 XC-W and a FE570. My real strength lies in logistics. I'm a producer in advertising currently at a big footwear/sports brand based in Portland. My whole job is organizing moving parts, personnel, schedules, and budgets for advertising productions around the world. I'd love to bring this skillset to a team if it's needed. Additionally, I used to live in Ecuador and Peru and speak Spanish fluently and have been to Mexico 8 or so times (but never Baja). Hoping this forum post will help point me in the right direction. Thanks all!
  8. Hello! I am removing an old enduro/street legal kit for my 1997 XR400 and upgrading to LED blinkers and an LED front light - i want to keep the stock rear fender with the brake light/two filament bulb because it works. I am doing this with a Baja Designs Squadron Pro MC LED Race headlight, the Baja designs REC/REG and fuse, Tusk LED/Harness/blinker kit, and a 12V AGM battery. Here is my modified wiring diagram - with the Stock diagram for reference. Was hoping some of you wiring gurus (or XR guys) would look over my drawing and see if you can find any issues or have suggestions before I start cutting things up. :) Thanks!
  9. Good afternoon, I'm looking to get my 1998 Honda Xr400 street legal in California for me and my father but I am very confused on how to. I have been told that anything made before 2004 can still obtain a plate in California, but I have also heard the reverse of this. Can anyone from California please let me know or pm me if its a possibility to get it legal for the street. And if so what street kits do you guys recommend? Thank you for your time!

  11. Hey guys so i recently bought a 50cc pit bike running. Drove all the way home and it wont start. It has fuel and spark. Just put a new carb on it and new cdi. Not sure whats wrong with it but am getting frustrated. When i can get it to start it just bogs out shortly after
  12. First off Just want to say I am new to the forum and this is my first write up, so we will see how this goes. After owning my DRZ for a short while I found that the stock headlight was lacking, and decided to do something about it. There are plenty of companies out there that sell led lights like baja designs, or trail tech, but they are quite expensive. Another alternative was to buy just a hid, or led bulb to replace the stock one, but I wanted to try do something different so I decided to make my own set up. Started out by removing the stock headlight and mounts, then taking piece of 2" schedule 40 pipe cutting it in half and building off of that. Once I had the pieces of pipe secured to the forks with hose clamps, I used 1/2 steel rod and bent it around an old bearing race to create the hoop that would houses the lights. After that used some more 1/2 rod to fix it in relation to the forks. Once I had everything tacked where i wanted it, removed from the bike and fully welded it. After finishing that up, put it back on the bike the next day, to add a spot for the lights to mount, made it out of cardboard first to check the fit then cut the metal out. Then tacked it, removed it, and welded it up. Test fitted the lights and drilled the holes for them. Got the lights off of amazon, the two cube lights are 20 watts each in a spot beam configuration, and the bar on the bottom is a 30 watt flood beam. The cubes were $50 for both and they seem like good quality, and the bar was $30. They will definitely be an improvement the over stock light. Had to make a harness to connect all of them, and I wanted to have it so that when the high beam was turned on the low beam remained on as well. Ended up using a diode to prevent backfeeding of the high beam circuit while the low beam was on. After making sure the lights all worked like I wanted them to, took the mount to work sandblasted it and put some paint and primer on it. And began to work on the front cover. Decided to make it out of fiberglass, then cut out holes for the lights. Cut out a piece of cardboard first to see what id need before I cut out the fiberglass. After cutting out the circular part, mounted it up with the lights in and traced them to get an outline of where I would need to cut (I forgot to get pictures of this but feel its pretty straight through). Threw some paint on the fiberglass cover, and mounted it all up on the bike. Been raining like crazy lately and haven't had the chance to get some decent pictures of how bright it is, to go with the before pictures with the stock headlights. Im sure it will have some improvements yet to come like making a cover over the back of the lights but for now pretty satisfied with how bright it is, and how it looks.
  13. I have a lighting question... I have a 1993 Suzuki DR250P it came stock with a headlight and taillight that runs off of the engine and the bike has no battery. I would like to put an additional light in the headlight shroud vent under the factory headlight (small rectangle 'vent' spot in the shroud under the headlight) . I know I probably need a very low watt light, but since the lights runs off the engine is there a maximum watt that I need to keep in mind? the factory light is not great and my funds are very limited right now. So upgrading the factory headlight to some over priced brand new set up is not an option, i'm looking for a super cheap LED light (around $5 to $20) that will fit in the lower vent on the headlight shroud.. Probably 1&1/2" tall (2" tall max) and (1&1/4" tall is ideal), by 4" long (4&1/2 ideal) 5" max width. i'll be hooking up a switch so I can turn the 'extra' light off in daytime and turn it on at night for road use. i'd appreciate any exact fitment lights that others have put in this same spot. I've seen other endure/baja bikes with extra lights in this spot and love the way they look and would love to find one that fits perfect although I have a background in fabrication and can make about anything mount sturdy with custom hand made mounts etc if needed... i'm just having questions about what 'watt' should be my max (or my target watt light) since the lights work off of the engine (and if anyone has put a light here and what they used, and how it worked.) appreciate any recommendations or advice, Thanks

  15. 1991 CR125R FMF - REV Pipe PC Factory Sound Silencer 1991 CR125shock or could use 2002 RM 250 shock 1993 Polaris Trailboss 250 chassis I wanted to see if the 125 had enough zing for the chassis, mind you there is probably an extra 50-60 lbs with fluid and extra frame now. Encouraging news, the engine did not want to stall starting off from a stop easier than one would suspect being a 125 and all: Testing chassis weight distribution.....it’s science. Why white? Well what.... 90’s made me do it
  16. Does anyone know if the twin headlights or the metal baja tanks from the Japanese street legal models like the MD22 and MD30 (XLR250’s, I think) will fit on an American model XR400R? If not, are there any known ways of fitting them. Both the lights and tanks are available from Japanese auctions and i think they’d look nice on a my 400R 👍
  17. Hello, Has anyone ever rebuilt their EXC-F 450 (2016-2019) using SX-f 450 piston, head, ecu? on a part number check, even the main bearings and rod are the same but the piston and valves are different. I'm building my EXC for a six day long rally raid event so a road registered bike is a requirement. 6 speed is a massive positive (and can be built into an SX-F motor). But the power and delivery of the lower comp EXC motor compared to an SX-f is a little "boring" for big sand dunes (and I cant afford a Rally Replica ). I only expect to build it and run it for the 50hrs during the rally before swapping out the piston as per the SX-f Service schedule. I'm open to any other suggestions of piston/remap/ideas to make the EXC engine more lively
  18. Here's my GoPro footage from the start of the 2017 SCORE Baja 1000, enjoy!
  19. Hello everyone, We recently rode from Ensenada to Cabo and had a total blast! We took the window rock trail on our way into Bahia de Los Angeles and decided to take the long/hard way in. We went past the cutoff into Laguna Amarga and rode the sand wash down to the Sea of Cortez. We attempted to catch the goat trail over La Gringa but couldn't quite find it before we ran out of gas and daylight. My question to you guys is does anyone have the GPS tracks for that particular section? How hard is it? Is it worth doing? It has been bugging me since we got back and I want to go down and try to finish the whole trail someday. We also made a video of our whole ride. If you want to check it out it's on youtube. Here is a link to our channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCkF794dQ4BOXyk_B5p5aew Thanks!
  20. Hello all, just found this site while looking for compatible replacement plastics and it looks like a great resource with a lot of knowledge. I recently came into a DR70 for free (in the trash) and started restoring it and of all the parts I needed (and bought already) I cannot find just the top triple clamp which is completely bent beyond repair. Is the triple clamp compatible with any other models? Lifan looks close but can't find any measurements to compare. Trying to avoid replacing the entire tree and save some $ since the rest of the fork is decent. Kinda going nuts here since this is the last piece of the puzzle and it's a very elusive piece to find.
  21. Hey Everyone! I made a quick edit of our last trip to Mikes Sky Ranch. A full video will be coming out soon! Check it out and Subscribe for more!
  22. Hey Everyone! I recently went on a ride down to Mikes Sky Ranch in Baja Mexico. Mikes is about 200 miles south of the border and is one of the best places to check out in baja. Take a ride with our group and check it out! PS- this is the first video I have ever edited haha
  23. Could a brand-new Six Days 250 EXC-F survive the baja rally? If you have any experience, what would be the downsides of running a smaller engine instead of a 450? Tips for or tricks to set-up the bike? Ive ridden enduros all my life and want to challange myself to a rally.... still figuring out all the navigation details.
  24. Hello Thumper talk, I'm new to the forum so my apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong place. I'm a hobbyist bike mechanic and I've got decent experience rebuilding engines 4 stoke and 2 stroke. My most recent project is a 1996 klx250r with a 290cc big bore and converted to street with a baja designs kit. The bike has brand new cylinder, piston, rings, cam chain, and valve guide seals. The problem I'm having is getting the street electrics working. I fixed an xr250 with an identical baja designs dual sport kit so I'm at least someone experienced with them. I've been able to get the head light and tail light/brake light to work off of the battery but the real problem is getting the battery to charge off the rectifier/regulator(box with 2 yellow, 1 black, and 1 red wires). I checked the voltage coming straight out of the rectifier/regulator and it was about 13 - 14 volts when the throttle is opened up. But when I connect the tail light or head light directly to the reg/rec they don't light up. I've checked the resistance across the two yellow wires coming out of the stator and it gives me about .8 ohms. Another strange thing is that when I rig up and electronics to power the head light and tail light then start the bike neither of the lights will turn on. I'll take some photos of all the electronics soon to make things more clear to understand. Am I missing something obvious? Am I doing something completely wrong? probably. Any help and or advice would be greatly appreciated.
  25. Hey everyone! I made a quick clip of my last ride to Mikes Sky Ranch in BAJA! A full video will be coming out soon so please SUBSCRIBE!
