  1. I am racing the Baja1000 for the first time this year on a team. All of the guys I am racing with have years of experience and have raced on teams and iron manned the race. Most of the guys I will be racing with have KTM or Hondas but I myself have the 2010 Yamaha YZ450F. I am looking for any recommendations on setting the bike for baja. I am an advanced rider, my style is somewhat aggressive, I weigh 180lbs and am 6'1. I am looking to maximize my fuel capacity, connect a light, kickstand, and tires. I am curious about gearing, and mapping for the bike as well as any other ideas you want to throw my way.
  2. Hi all! First time poster. Go easy on me. I'm a long time dirt bike rider from the Mt. Hood, OR area, though I've never competed except for a couple flat track races on vintage Yamaha XS650s. A long time goal of mine is to build a team and race in the Baja 1000. I'm hoping to find a motorcycle team heading to Baja in 2019 or 2020 that I can join (the SF250, Baja 500 or 1000) as a member of the support crew. I figure joining a crew would be a great way to get a lay of the land down there, understand the race and logistics and the process, and just learn from those that know. I'd prefer to join a motorcycle team, but any team would really do for the first time down there. Background on me: my dad has been a mechanic for over 40 years, he got me started wrenching on things when I was young, and I still rebuild motors regularly (2t and 4t singles, and multi cylinder vintage bikes). I think I can handle most things on a pit crew: tire/wheel swaps, fuel, minor wrench and repairs, etc. I've ridden Honda, Yamaha, KTM, Husky, and Husaberg and have pretty solid familiarity with their thumpers. Currently I'm on a 300 XC-W and a FE570. My real strength lies in logistics. I'm a producer in advertising currently at a big footwear/sports brand based in Portland. My whole job is organizing moving parts, personnel, schedules, and budgets for advertising productions around the world. I'd love to bring this skillset to a team if it's needed. Additionally, I used to live in Ecuador and Peru and speak Spanish fluently and have been to Mexico 8 or so times (but never Baja). Hoping this forum post will help point me in the right direction. Thanks all!
  3. Check out my last ride in Baja Mexico!
  4. The World’s Toughest Point-to-Point Desert Race Now In Its 50th Year AUSTIN, TX – March 14, 2017 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – El Rey Network has finalized a partnership with SCORE International to air the 2017 SCORE World Desert Championship series, which will also include the historic SCORE Baja 1000 50th Anniversary race. The exclusive U.S. broadcast of the 2017 SCORE World Desert Championship series was announced today by network president and G.M., Daniel Tibbets. Taking place over the Baja, MX peninsula, the 2017 race series will culminate with the historic SCORE Baja 1000 50th anniversary event taking place in November covering over 1,300 miles between Ensenada and La Paz. This global race will encompass the most difficult terrain in Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula. All five race specials will air on El Rey in 2017. “We have seen with the success of ‘Lucha Underground’ that our viewers have a large appetite for exciting action combined with great story telling,” remarked Tibbets. “The Baja 1000 is the world’s toughest and most famous point-to-point desert race. It’s like ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ in race form, so bringing it to El Rey is the perfect way to expand our hi-octane programming.” Now is its 50th year, the legendary SCORE Baja 1000 has attracted the world’s best racers and teams to participate in what has been described as the “Top Motorsports Event” in the world. Each special is built around the races, but includes the stories of racers and teams in each division. These are people from all walks of life and backgrounds who modify or build their own vehicles to join the race, including motorcycles, stock Volkswagen, production vehicles, buggies, trucks, and custom fabricated race vehicles. The modified cars, extreme conditions, terrain and speed lead to captivating drama and suspense. All races in the four-race 2017 SCORE World Desert Championship, along with the special SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience and qualifying for the SCORE Baja 1000 from Las Vegas Motor Speedway will air for the first time on El Rey Network. The spectacular shows feature not only SCORE Trophy Truck coverage, but also top action and highlights from many other classes of trucks, cars, UTVs, motorcycles and quads – making sure that the most exciting footage and most compelling stories continue as part of each race event broadcast. Capping off the 2017 broadcast season, the SCORE Baja 1000 broadcast on El Rey Network will air as a two-hour special. 8. Trying to get some ideas of what upgrades or mods I should do on a Kx450f 2018. Main purpose is desert riding interested in trying a few races this coming year but wondering what engine or just upgrades in general. Already swapped the air forks to spring and have them set up for my weight. Any insight or recommendations.
