  1. Working on my buddy’s 2017 Ktm 250xc-f. With 67 hrs on it. For a while now we’ve been smelling coolant . We saw a drip near hoses above exhaust. So we tighten up or replaced anything that looked bad. .. just last night he started it and we smelled again so we looked closely and noticed it leaking from the valve cover gasket . I pulled the cover and there was traces of coolant all around cams and can caps. Not leaking bad enough to make oil milky though or doesn’t look very low in rads after 1 ride. I was assuming head gasket so we tore it down but I’m now seeing any imperfections that stand out. Anyone got any ideas ???
  2. I'm trying to help my buddy find a DRZ and we came across this E model with a blown engine for $500. Seems like a pretty good deal so long as the engine damage isn't too extensive. https://ashtabula.craigslist.org/mcy/d/2000-drz-400e-street-legal/6319866501.html He says he was on the highway and it locked up. He said the crank still moves to a certain point then gets stuck. Does anyone have any idea what the issue is? Figured if it was just a top end we could just put a big bore in it. We're gonna try to look at it this weekend, any ideas would be appreciated.

    kx450f blows up

    hey I was wondering if anybody knows why this problem happened and how i can fix it. I was riding on some trails on my bike (2007 kx 450f) and i stopped to warm up for about 30 mins. At the time it was about -10°c out. I went out to go ride again and i started to kick it over, it would run for about 2 seconds then die again, this happened several times before it finally started. I drove about 500 feet before it stopped running. I look down and there is oil pouring out of the top end. I try to kick it over but the bike is seized. I take it home and I look over the bike. It has no coolant left, the bike isn't seized any more and it still has oil but it looks as if the coolant has miked with the oil. If you know what the problem could be and how to fix it, please let me know. - thanks Alex
  4. hello ppl. question: what are the proper ways to analyse if the head gasket is blown or not (without actual disassembly?) I have 2000 year WR400F (the small size tank version). recently I boiled the water, I have a radiator cap temp gauge 1.3 bar: it said, over 100 degree celsius, I heard the boiling water bubbling in the water tank at the back wheel, I immediately stopped and waited to cool to 50 celsius. (we have winter now, plus 2 degree almost freezing, but we had a HUGE amount of mud so the bike was hot) before that where I noticed the bubbling and stopped to cool, I probably made a mistake.. I wanted to "escape" from a total muddy field and forced the bike 1st gear high rev through mud for a few minutes :-( (must say the high rev back wheel in huge mud worked well, analog to aquaplaning, I was able to fly above the mud instead of wobbling side to side..) so, you know the questions. what can I check there. white smoke in exhaust? exactly what scenario and how? is it hard to kick when cold? sign of coolant water flooded engine? do I loose coolant after a short ride? mark the coolant level in small plastic trank with sharpie and compare? what to see in oil dipstick? bubbles? foam? etc? pls help us out with clever tips.   5. Hey everyone, I'm hoping some of y'all can help me out with some advice. I always liked reading threads like this one. Hope it's ok posting here in the Kawasaki forum even though it's an RM100. It's supposed to be the same bike right? My girlfriends 2003 RM100 started rattling one day while out riding. There was power loss and it stopped running but would still turn over. Fast forward to yesterday, we took the top end apart and checked the crank for play. The piston has some marks on it as well as the cylinder. I took some measurements and the piston and rings were at the service limit, but the cylinder was still in the acceptable range? This is my first two stroke rebuild and any advice would be great. If the bottom end needs a rebuild along with the top end, I'll probably take it to a mechanic ?.
  6. I own a 2006 Yamaha yz 125 and recently we have had a lot of issues with it. It started a few months ago where on track my bike would start breaking up on top, then would slowly bog down. As time went on it got worse, whenever the bike was hot it would misfire on top, even just sitting and revving it up, constantly misfiring but still staying high in the rev range. We went through all the electrical, checked everything hot and cold. We though we had narrowed it down to the stator, which was then replaced, but it didn’t fix anything. We did all the hot and cold electrical tests again and everything checked out. I then started it back up after hooking everything up, put in a new plug (BR9ES) and was revving it up to clear it out (wasn’t going overboard or anything, I’ve been doing this stuff for years and never ever blown up a motor) and then the bike completely locked up. I’m running 91 octane and octane booster with Amsoil 2-stroke oil mixed at 32.1. I’m resorting to here because I am at a complete loss, I don’t know if the motor was just tired and it was ready to go, or what, I’m just out of Ideas and some new opinions would be awesome.   7. I have a blown motor a 1995 cr250 and i need a new cylinder but cant find one for that year what year cylinder can i buy to replace that one and what year would be the best fit.
  8. Blew top and bottom end last week and my cylinder, piston , crank , head are all destroyed, not sure about anything else yet . I wanted to know if anyone knew where to get a brand new oem cylinder, everywhere has shown that they were out of stock or not able to be added to my cart. If anyone knows where I can get a new oem cylinder please let me know where and a price if possible , thank you
  9. Had my bike tapped out on pavement then she locked right up, held the clutch, came to a stop, loaded her up, top end looks perfect. Trying to find the next best bottom end to OEM standards.. I didn’t expect anything of this kind of nature but here we are and I believe it’s only the bottom bearing on my rod, Hope I can get some suggestions on getting parts and also is there any suggestions for tools (crankcase splitter, flywheel puller, bearing and seal driver) as I’m on my way to Edmonton tomorrow for a break the bank kind of day, any opinions are greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!
  10. Hey guys I'm new to this forum. Im looking for some help, I have a 1989 Yz 125 with blown rear suspension. The spring it self appears to be in good shape but the shock absorber is toast. The problem I'm having is trying to find information or even parts on how to rebuild it. I've called every part supplier there is and no one has a re build kit for it. I've talked to so many people. This is my last hope. Even if I could find what year shock I could buy to switch them out would help huge. Please help me!!!!! Thanks in advanced!
