  1. Hello Thumpertalk Community, My First Post here and i'm going to start with a Big one... for me at least. On my 2005 XR650r wich is an ED Type i guess? (Bought in Germany i think(2nd Owner)) My Stock Stator somehow broke after long investigations a specialized company found out that one of the Coils wich is responsible for the Ignition is broken. Repairing would've cost me about 300€ (~280$ i guess?) and a compleatly new OEM would've cost me 600€ wich is why i bought a RickyStator from Xr'sOnly after a good month the stator arrived (due to customs) and as i Wanted to Replace the old one i noticed a big problem: The OEM Stator has wiring wich looks like this: A multi caple Plug with 5 Cables in it. 2 Cables for the ignition. The RickyStator one Looks like this: 8-10 Loose Cables of wich 2 where in a MultiCable Plug Ignition Cables are Known Dosn't fit but i got a question Would the Bike run if i only run the Ignition Cables? Does every cable have to do 1 exact "job" or are the rest of those wich arn't igniton cables only for supplying the rest of the bike with the 12 Volts? Anyone had the same or similar Problem? Pliz halp am only good with mechanical problems not with electrical stuff Thank you in Advance i guess 🙂
  2. Hi, I'm late 30's dad whos looking to get back to desert riding with my young kids and I haven't had my own bike or barely ridden in 15 years. As title says I'm a big guy(6'5" lil outta shape but working my way down in lbs) and I want a fun reliable bike I can throw into my truck and ride around the S.California deserts (El Mirage, Ocotillo, etc.) I have zero interest in street riding so I hadn't even looked at the XR650's and have been focusing my search on WR450's & CRF450X's only but after watching a video or 2 about the XR and seeing only a few but better priced options then the other 2 choices I'm wondering if the XR isn't exactly what I want. I've read some riders don't like how tall it is and heavy, and it isn't the poppiest motor for a 650, but since I'm so tall n heavy and just looking to have reasonable desert fun what are your thoughts? Also read alil about people removing and minorish mods done to the XR to make it lighter and uncork it more. Anyone have experience stripping away street stuff and only leaving it Ca. desert legal? Thanx in advance for your opinions, I'm looking to spend @ $1500-4000 on the bike I chose, hoping to keep it as cheap as reliable /fun allows
  3. Hello, after many years I am back to riding again, kinda. I just bought an xr650l with most of the supermoto conversion done. All it needed was a horn, mirror, turn signals, and a tail light. Seemed simple enough and I got it at a "your a good friend" price. The horn went on with little problems, along with the mirrors. I learned what a relay switch looked like after buying L.E.D. turn signals, but other than that, we were kosher. I installed the rear tail light, as some other tutorials show, and there was no power. I looked up the wiring diagram, and after double checking I connected the right wires, still no power. Is there a relay I need for the tail light? Even if there were a relay needed, I assumed it would still light up as a driving light without it? Electrical components are not my cup of tea.
  4. I finally got the exact pig I was looking for after a long search. Never been ridden. Original owner claimed it was never even started after leaving the dealership. I know it sounds like a tall tale, but It’s a true Cinderella story (a long one if anyone is interested in intricate details.) I inspected it twice for 2 hours before buying it and have been going through it for 2 weeks getting it ready to ride after being stored (indoors) for 12+ years, and I can’t find evidence of even the slightest amount of use. Now it’s finally ready, but man, this thing is beautiful! It’s like a collector’s item now and probably belongs in a museum or something. Hard to ride it after it’s been so well preserved for so long. Could probably keep it new, but I wanted a BRP to ride, not to just polish, stare at, and show off. What would you do with this thing?
  5. Hello, Quick question about valve clearance on my newly purchased '00 XRR. The previous owner uncorked it and put an XR's only competition exhaust on it but kept the stock header. As I was going over the basic maintenance on the bike I noticed the exhaust valves were way out of spec. This is my first bike with auto decompression, so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it, or if uncorking/changing the exhaust caused the previous owner to alter the exhaust valves but not the intake???? or maybe its indicative of an engine problem that might require looking into. According to the manual I got, the intake should be set at 0.006 ±0.001 inches, and the exhaust should be at 0.008 ±0.001 inches. My intakes were set at a reasonable 0.005, but both exhaust valves were at 0.015, nearly double where they should be! In my limited experience, valves usually tighten up with use, not loosen up. I'm hoping somebody could shed some light on why they might be set so high. I took multiple measurements multiple times to ensure I was TDC on compression stroke, and tried my best not to let the flywheel rotate backwards. I'm planning on setting the valves to within spec, but thought I would ask in case there is some bike specific reason why they are so far out. Thanks guys, Mike
  6. What's up fellas, So I have a 2003 BRP, from what I can tell, the resale value of the bike is anywhere between $2,500-3,500. The bike is in good condition - runs well, been taken care of in terms of maintenance, no leaks.. etc. It is not set up for street use and is mostly stock aside from Big Gun exhaust and having the "uncorked" mod, which allows for greater air intake and performance. I'm looking for your guys' suggestions and opinions in terms of additional modification to the bike that would allow for the greatest resale value (i.e. what will buyers want to see). Thanks in advance, I appreciate the advice.
  7. Hello thumper this is my first thread so bare with me. I have a XR650R which by the way is the single greatest bike I've ever owned. It has been setup as a supermoto and I ride it like that, quite aggressively nevertheless I do a load of wheelie riding and 12 o'clock wheelies and such 😂 but I might be a bit worried with oil not getting to the top end I've tried researching a bit about oil being able to make it to the top end when the bike is etc. Upright and such but can't really find any answers (guess nobody is as stupid as me when it comes to that wheelie time) 😂 Anyways feel free to write what ever have a good day fellow BRP fanatics!
  8. Hey there, So I've been doing a bunch of stuff which all started when I purchased a used Scott's damper for 'cheap'. One of the most expensive things I've ever bought for the DRZ it turns out since it snowballed into about $1000 of other stuff... Anyhow, I got the BRP top clamp for my 400s, submount kit, blah blah... All went well but the dash doesn't clear. Called BRP, there is no spacer kit from them or Scotts. OK, spaced it myself, but now the speedo drive doesn't properly reach and the headlight cowl doesn't fit. I'm thinking it needs to go down and not just back. Or I need to get an aftermarket speedo and lose the drive cable. Anyone have pictures of how they made this work? Thanks!

  10. Hello everyone, I own a 2017 Honda XR650L. I owned it for a year and put about 2,000 miles on it with in the first year. Oil was changed at 500 miles. Mid 2018, I left for the military and have not been home to ride or perform maintenance on it. Over the course of 3 years, I have had people start and ride the bike. Before leaving I put fuel stabilizer in it and it has been garage kept since. I will be coming home within the next 6 months. I am not good with motors or tinkering but want to get into preforming maintenance myself. I want to completely service the bike before I start riding it again. What would you all recommend doing before riding it.
