  1. Please help! I recently bought a Yz250f and have not been able to start it, it Has spark, but there are many issues with the carby which I wanna rule out before I leap into a rebuild, ( I want to avoid a rebuild if possible as I’m low on cash). The carby at the moment is a complete mess so the usual steps to fixing it might not work. So here’s the deal with the carb: - It’s leaking fuel from overflow ( really fast! ) and when I mean really fast, I mean it emptied my fuel tank in 2 mins. - It has a slow leak coming from somewhere under the float bowl - the air fuel screw is not adjusted correctly - I don’t know if the electrics work on it either - I don’t even know if it’s shooting fuel into the cylinder or not, as after kicking it a couple times and it’s not starting I remove the spark plug and it’s still dry. ( I tried putting fuel directly into cylinder from the spark plug hole but the bike still wouldn’t start) okay so I know it’s a lot but I’m not expecting anyone to answer every single question themselves. If each person could tackle whatever problem they know it would help heaps. Also just want to know what Order to fix things in as I can’t do air fuel until the bike is running and it won’t run unless I stop the leaking and get it to spray fuel into the cylinder. And buying a new carby is not an option ( I’ve got $40 to my name atm). Please help guys thanks.
  2. I have a 2018 Husqvarna te150 and when I ride a lot of oil comes out of the exhaust and a tone of smoke too. She is a little boggy in the mid range and I feel I can get more powe out of her. Should I change the ratio of the gas? It’s at 60:1 right now. Or is it a carb issue? If so could you explain how I could fix it?. Thank you
  3. I was running the gas out of the carb on my cr125 and noticed no smoke was coming from it, is this normal. Is it a sign that the carb is empty? I’m a bit worried it ran for a little bit without any oil running through the engine.
  4. Hey fellas, I recently picked up a 2010 klx110l that has seen a rougher life to say the least. Other than looking like it has been on its side 1000 times it starts and runs pretty well. I'm an old two stroke guy so these four stroke pitters are pretty new to me. I noticed right after I picked it up that it just doesn't like to be goosed from an idle. When you crank the throttle from an idle it bogs and almost dies. Upon further inspection I found that the gas in the tank was bad and after tearing the carb apart found a little bit of gunk in the bowl. I cleaned all of the jets and the carb body as good as I could and it still does the same thing. I am aware these bikes don't have an accelerator pump, but this much bog just doesn't seem normal. The bike is 100% stock and has fresh fluids and a fresh air filter. Any leads to the problem would be greatly appreciated.
  5. My carb is still leaking fuel after cleaning it what is going on can someone help?
  6. Good day I have been having a problem with my spark plugs. Every 0.5-1 hour of riding the bike will begin to miss fire due to the spark plug insulator being cracked just below the electrode. (exactly the same everytime) The plug has some oil on it as, expected, but nothing close to causing oil fouling. 2018 ktm 250 xcw (carb) nothing has changed with the bike, the problem suddenly started at random. I have been through roughly 8 plugs (ngk br7es) and it continues, bike runs perfectly with a new plug until the it breaks once again. All jetting seems good and as I said this problem started suddenly and randomly as the bike had been running without a single problem since I have had it. a new piston and rings were installed at 60 hours and the problem still continues exactly the same. Thanks in advanced 50:1 oil ratio (moterx) as I have always 55 hours on 1 plug and then 8 within less than 10 hours??? this isnt my spark plug but the damage to the white insulator is similar
  7. I’m new to 2 strokes and recently picked up a 05 cr125, The guy had a lectron on it before he sold it but took it off to put on his new bike, and didn’t have a lot of time to dial the mikuni in. In 1st and 2nd it sputters, cutting in and out of power, mainly at higher rpms, when I hit 3rd it clears right up and runs like a champ. Where should I start? Air fuel screw? Main jet?
  8. I have an ugly 1987 XR600R that doesn't have brakes, has the wrong exhaust, needs axle bearings all around, doesn't have the auto compression release set up. But it runs really well and is extremely fast, all of the hoses except the fuel line have been removed from the carbs. I also have a 1985 600 that is in much better shape overall, but runs much weaker. The carbs on the 85 still have all the oem hoses hooked up. Do any of these hoses hinder the power of the engine? (like an egr on a car)? Or does the power difference come from the different exhaust pipes (less back pressure on the 87)?
  9. I recently bought a 12 Suzuki drz 125. I know enough about the mechanics to get myself into trouble, but I decided to change the carberator anyway. The problem I'm having is trying to connect the new carb to the old throttle line. The new carb came with a threaded connection, but the old line is clamped at the end. I have a new throttle cable coming in hopes that it has the female threads to fit. Does anyone know how I connect them? Do I have the wrong part? Do I need to buy an adapter or new line?
  10. Hello! This is my first post but I have been unable to find a problem like mine. I have a 2006 yz250f and I recently replaced the main jet. it was hollowed out and I put a stock one in. ever since, it seems like on start, it is getting flooded with too much gas, however, on idle, the bike will die and has a low idle. I have messed with the fuel adjuster as well as the idle adjuster, turning to 2.5 turns out on idle as the manual says. Doesn't seem to change my problem. I changed the spark plug as well in hopes that it wasn't getting spark (the bike would not even turn over whatsoever for a few hours. It ran good once i replaced the jet once but after that this problem keeps coming up. The only things i can think of that may be causing it are related to the pilot jets. Any tips? Thanks!
  11. I have a 2020 drz400sm with 1100 miles I really want to be able to pop wheelies in higher gears easier an also to be able to go faster on the high way I just wanted some options on if I should swap out the stock carb for a fcr39 an put a full exhaust system on or just keep it stock bc it runs perfectly fine right now I just want reliability to but also want some more power lemme know 🤙🏻
  12. Hey guys, I bought this Dizzer just this last spring - 2012 DRZ 400s. 6000 miles. To my knowledge the mods are pretty standard. 3x3, FMF, powercore header. Its been used mostly on the trail, so it has rash. But the bike is generally tight. It pulls hard and runs well most of the time. There are several rides with no issue. However, somewhat regularly, if I crack the throttle off idle (while in gear) it will miss (or bog?) or whatever. I'm pretty sure it's a fuel, not a spark issue. I am at 1200 elevation in a high desert setting. This bike is solid in most respects but I wonder if this is common after the 3x3 FMF mods. I wonder if the bike is jetted correctly, there is a bit of popping during deceleration, but the bike pulls hard, runs well, etc. One other data point. My buddy took me on a singly track ride at about 2000-3300 feet elevation (pictured) and when I was going down steep technical stuff with the clutch in, the bike would often die...I had to keep it going with the throttle, or frequently hit the starter. There were also several bogs on that trip. -- usually down low, off idle or somewhere near there. Riding techy stuff, switchbacks, etc. that issue could be deadly...when you need a front wheel lift, weight transfer etc. I am wondering if this is common, if the carb needs to be cleaned etc. Air filter seems OK, but a bit old. I guess the place to start is there. I am a decent backyard mechanic, but carburetors intimidate me. I could probably figure it out with a decent YouTube video etc. Recommendations? I know there are specialized jets that should be done with 3x3 / FMF -- how do I tell if it has them? My thought is that it wouldn't run so good most of the time if the jetting was way off. Should I just remove carb, disassemble and have a carb cleaner party? Do the jets have numbers on it? How do I get it right? I wonder if this is just something I need to live with (not having a fuel injected bike), or if I need to take it to a specialized tuner, since it has been modded, or is this something I could reasonably diagnose or troubleshoot myself? I love the bike otherwise. It is now the favorite bike I have ever owned. I previously had a xr200, cr250, vf750c magna, vtr1000 superhawk, vintage gs750 -- this bike kicks ass. If I could resolve the issue I would be so grateful and even more excited. ... It would be cool if it was 20 lbs lighter, had +10 hp and a 6speed transmission. I know we are all dreaming of that.... but the versatility, reliability, ease of maintenance and a reasonable price can't be beat. I run 15/44 gearing and do 65 fine and as techy a trail as I care to do -- with a little slipping the clutch, it does the job....it's just the bogging/missing off the bottom that is a bummer. Thank you for you help. running new shinko 244s. Love them.
  13. Okay so I'll make this short and sweet. I bought an 05 CRF250R on Craigslist. When I got the bike, it ran okay, but definitely hard to start and not a lot of pop. The guy had told me it was time to get the valves shimmed. This is my first bike over 125cc, so keep in mind I'm totally new to this all. Anyways, there was oil slowly leaking somewhere from the engine, so I found out it was coming from the valve cover. Took that off, the seal was pretty beaten up. Plus the guy had basically folded the seal when he put the valve cover back on. Okay, so I got a brand new seal in, and it actually seemed to fix everything. Started in 1-2 kicks, no more leaking, so I think I'm in the clear. I've been riding the bike for about 2 weeks and the only problem is with the idle which can get kind of uneven. I cleaned the carb out (broke the hot start plunger while I was in there haha) and still have an occasionally rough idle. So, what can I do to fix the idle? Also, can a loose valve cover cause hard starting and loss of power?
  14. Hey guys just picked up a 2008 crf 150r and it wasn’t running so I rebuilt the carb put fresh gas in fires right up So I let it warm up for about 15 min because it hasn’t ran for a while the I took the choke off and it dies Then I tried to give it some gas with choke on and even if I let off the throttle it will rev up really high thanks for all the help??
  15. Hello, today I started to do further research on my issue. I have a 04 yz250f and I feel as if it’s overheating I say this because when the bike is in nuetral coasting or idle coolant flows out the overflow. So now I’m pretty sure I know what’s wrong and it’s that I’m too lean the bike backfires on deceleration but the throttle response is perfect. Also, the motor seems to remain at high rpms after the clutch is engaged. I took the carb apart and this is what I found. (I do trail riding, I know the radiators are getting enough air flow I’m not going slow enough for that to be the issue that’s what I think at least) Main jet—178 pilot jet-72 Jet needle groove position-4th down Pilot Screw Adjustment- The bike stays running at about 2 turns out but to have more throttle control best would be 3-3.5 basically all the way out. P.s I’m not very familiar with these carbs so if you can leave some information on how theses things work and what I should do, the bike starts up first kick clutch engages every time the bike just gets extremely hot.
  16. A friend of mine asked me to fix his drz125 for him. The bike was put away running and sat for about 6 years In a shed. I cleaned the carb, air box, air filter, etc... and shimed the valves. The bike will start right up 1st kick but when it gets hot it will only idle and die out when u give it gas. I think it's a fuel related issue but I don't know what else to do. Please help, any ideas are appreciated.
