  1. Hi I am tired of having to warm up the battery and grinding the battery before the bike starts. (and when really cold outside I have to bump start it down a big hill) What battery could I buy instead of the tired OEM battery? Do anyone now what CCA the stock battery got? I read it was about 70cca on the older ktms but hasnt seen anything about the 2017 bike. Also saw someone mention the WPS FEATHERWEIGHT LITHIUM BATTERY 130 CCA as a better option than OEM. Is the WPS a good choice and does it fit in the stock battery boot? Is 130CCA enough to start the bike when it is about freezing point outside?
  2. Question- i bought a 2002 Yz250f and the bike comes with a decompression lever, since Yamaha 01-02’s were designed that way, I understand how it works and getting the pistons/compression to TDC. My question is....has anyone ever experienced or heard that you should just leave the decompression alone when kickstarting?? I bought the bike, brought it straight to a buddies house to go ride together, started it first kick WITHOUT decompressing, got home started it 1-3 kicks WITHOUT decompressing, next day started it 1-3 kicks WITHOUT Decompressing, and the rest of the week I’ve had a hell of a time trying to get it kickstarted, I’ve been bump starting it to get it running, I replaced the spark plug it was in bad condition, but I’ve been messing with the decompression lever since and I can’t get it started, my experienced neighbor comes over after I got finished riding, I explained to him my problem, he sets the Kickstarter with his hand to TDC and tells me kick it.....Starts right up first kick without decompressing....again my question really is, is the decompression steps really necessary??? -Thanks
  3. Greetings to everyone. After a lot of searching I finally decided to join this forum in order to finally find a solution to my problem. Here's my story. Bought in a hurry an sm610 2005 (cylinder with the small tensioner) which wouldn't start cold. Only if I connected it to a car battery would it start but not always and not easy. Got a new 14amp battery and nothing. Spark plugs,starting spray etc nothing worked out. If the engine was cold it would start in an instant very very easily. Took it to a mechanic he told me that it had no compression so he grinded the valves. When I got there to take it back he told me that my pick up coil was in bad condition and needed to be replaced in order to start cold. Of course nothing changed after the valve job and after 5 hours of riding(not constant) my new head gasket blew and when I took it apart I found a crack in the water passage on my head right next to the blown up spot on my gasket. I don't know if it was already cracked or if it cracked after gasket blew all I know is that it was tightened properly as I was in front when this happened. I'm just trying to figure out why i can't get it to start cold. All answers are welcome. I had the head fixed and I'm ready to reassemble the engine. Could the pick up coil actually be responsible for this? Another thing I noticed. My tensioner had an apostate welded up to it so i needed a new cam chain as well as a new tensioner. I have these. Could the ruffled chain be in charge? The engine was perfect when hot starting and working like a charm. Please someone help as I'm ready to take the damned thing and throw it into the ocean. PS is the pick up coil from an lc4 engine compatible?
  4. I bought a 2010 KX250f from a guy who bought the bike brand new back in 2010 (only had 1 owner). The guy put a high compression piston in this bike. Also he was pretty much running straight race gas because when he took it to the shop, they must have messed with the jets because they weren’t stock anymore. I got new jets. Currently at...........………Pilot Jet - 42. Main Jet 185 I’ve messed with my air screw and tried a few things out but I still have to kick my bike like 30 times before it finally starts! The piston is supposed to be high compression but it doesn’t feel that way. I’m thinking of just replacing it and going back to stock??? Any thoughts? Ive read that valve clearance is an issue with this year bike... Also that Kawis need a little throttle when you kick. It ends up flooding every time. Send help please!!
  5. I just bought a 2018 crf250r and it has electric start. When I go to start it for the first time of the day when it’s cold it take a lot to get it started I have to press the button for a second let go and jsut keep tryin and give it a little gas each time. Once it warms up it’s starts like a champ no problem but the cold start is very difficult I understand that bikes are harder to start in the cold but this seems a little expensively difficult. Any tips or trick I could do to make the cold start up any easier?
  6. Hey Guys this is my first post ever on thumper talk. Not new to the site however. I have a 2016 Honda crf250r with less than 20 hours on it. I live in Canada and it has been especially cold lately. Recently I started the bike in my cold garage to demo the bike for my buddy because like me, he is also an enthusiast. It took a good 30 kicks to actually get the bike to start which is a first for this one ( usually starts 3rd kick) once I got the bike started I let it run on choke for 1 Minute like the manual says and noticed more smoke than usual coming from the left side pipe but didn't think much of it. I then turned the choke off after the 1 Minute and the bike was idling normally and sounded great (as per usual) but still more smoke than usual coming from left pipe. (White smoke) I let the bike run for a few minutes then gave er a shot of gas and hit the kill button. Engine officially demoed lol. Next day I noticed a small puddle of engine oil accumulated just 2 inches behind where the rad overflow hose would leak from. I believe the oil is coming from the engine cover gasket. I can safely say the leak was not present before i started the bike and the oil is still very clean and clear. I change my transmission oil and engine oil every 8 hours of riding or less. Engine side I use royal purple extreme cycle 10w40 and transmission side gets 80w85 lucas transmission oil. Im worried that I may have caused some damage due to the cold start. Im just looking to see if anyone has any advice on this matter. Should I just leave it alone till next spring and just re torque the bolts and see if the leak stops? Currently the oil is not leaking but it is sweating through the seal. Everytime I go back to the bike i can wipe a small amount of oil away from the seal. Indicating to me that it is sweating. This bike has only ever been max throttle 1 time for about 5 seconds lol. She was babied for the most part.
  7. So my 2009 yzf250 won’t start just backfires every now and again ,checked the valves they are all in spec new timing chain has been installed has spark and has compression but no go what else could it be?
  8. Hi, i am having this problem that after leaving my bike sitting for a day or two, it has a lot of trouble starting, so much that most of the times the battery comes close to dying. Sometimes it wont start until I fully charge the battery and try again. However, as soon as I can get it to start, i will start on command as if nothing happened. The bike has 70 hours.
