  1. I'm interested in a Honda XR250 that I've found on craigslist. The guy that is selling it has it listed that the time tensioner is not set and its not fully put together. I'm new with the bikes and wanted to know if that is a big deal or if it is easily fixable, if so then how do i fix that? I want to make sure I will be able to get the bike up and running for my use.
  2. What are the best used Dual Sport models to convert into a scrambler style? Looking for 400-650cc, decent Highway Speed (cruise around 65-70 mph), Low Maintance, good MPG, can handle long distance rides (150 mile day ride), Very Good on fire roads, decent single track, can handle occasional sand and rocks no problem, lighter weight, Currently deciding between: drz400 and 650, KLR650, XR400R 600R and 650R,
  3. I bought this bike around a month ago and am just getting around to posting it. This will hopefully be a full rebuild thread. Keep in mind that I am a broke 15 year old and will update as I have time. The bike is a 1999 KX125. Paid $500 for it. Supposedly only needed a top end and to have the brakes filled back up with fluid and bled. The previous owner gave me the old piston. He said that he drained the brake fluid because he took the wheels off to put on new tires. It will be my first big bike that I've fixed. The bike came with a full tank of gas and a center stand. It also came with a side stand. I checked all the big things, chain and sprockets were good, it kicked over, tires looked new, pipe looked undented. I realized it had a broken throttle tube, it was missing the silencer, needed misc bolts, shift lever, air filter. Nothing big (yet). It looked like a great bike to fix up and sell. After looking at it in more detail, I have come up with a theory about its background. I think it raced by a guy who knew what he was doing. Then, it was crashed hard, guy got scared and sold it to the guy that I bought it from. The guy that I bought it from only had it for a week and got married. His wife was making him sell it. Maybe he'll be on here and recognize his bike. It has ProTaper bars, Boyseen reeds on stock cage, rear Excell rim, Front D.I.D. rim, Pro Circuit expansion chamber, P3 pipe skid plate, Motion Pro stickers. Just little things that add up. Crashed parts: Broken throttle tube, cracked clutch lever perch, broken rear brake fluid reservoir tab, bent rear brake disk, front brake blew, took out the 2 subframe bolts that hold the seat and rear plastics on, one side seat tab ripped out of seat, no air filter, rear fender airbox cover broke, no shift lever, no air filter, new D.I.D. front rim. I think the crash took out quite a few things, and he bought new ones to sell.
  4. Okay so I'll make this short and sweet. I bought an 05 CRF250R on Craigslist. When I got the bike, it ran okay, but definitely hard to start and not a lot of pop. The guy had told me it was time to get the valves shimmed. This is my first bike over 125cc, so keep in mind I'm totally new to this all. Anyways, there was oil slowly leaking somewhere from the engine, so I found out it was coming from the valve cover. Took that off, the seal was pretty beaten up. Plus the guy had basically folded the seal when he put the valve cover back on. Okay, so I got a brand new seal in, and it actually seemed to fix everything. Started in 1-2 kicks, no more leaking, so I think I'm in the clear. I've been riding the bike for about 2 weeks and the only problem is with the idle which can get kind of uneven. I cleaned the carb out (broke the hot start plunger while I was in there haha) and still have an occasionally rough idle. So, what can I do to fix the idle? Also, can a loose valve cover cause hard starting and loss of power?
  5. Hi All, I'm looking for some guidance on buying untitled bikes off of CL. I live in AZ and apparently the state requires OHV decals for trail riding which requires a title. I would like to buy a vintage bike that'd be a semi project bike, and it looks like in most cases the titles are nowhere to be found. Is there a safe way to go about buying a bike with no title to ensure it's not hot and then subsequently get it titled? I was reading somewhere Vermont has easy title laws to the point where you can get a VT title through the mail, and then use that as a means of getting it title locally.
  6. I was just wondering how much I should sell my 2003 CRF230f. The thing is that it actually has a Xr200r engine in it. Kind of bizarre and I just figured that out after noticing something was up about it. Overall it is in amazing shape, runs perfectly.
