  1. Hey everyone looking for ideas for my rocker kill switch on my fe 350. i got a rocker kill switch on the throttle side of my handle bar and I find when I’m hopping big logs or get caught up on something I’m going over, I find my leg hits the kill switch and kills the bike I rotated it up a bit helped but I wanted to see if anyone else had this little problem and what they did to resolve it.
  2. Recently took a side impact from a utility at ~30-40kph, left hand side, bike then took a fair spill onto the right hand. Most of the impact happened between the bar (Driven sideways out of bar clamps about 25mm) , and left radiator (left aftermarket rad guard bent out of shape somewhat) the shift lever took a hard enough strike to stick a fair dent (7-10mm deep) in my TT case guard. Local dealership is insisting on replacing a front brake lever and realigning the bars only (to avoid a write off) what sort of work could I reasonably expect to restore bike to safe condition? Should the engine be split to inspect the gear box? (I only ask this as I thought I read once impacts to the shift lever of that nature require it) Sorry for no pictures, makes it hard. 2008 Drz400E 12,000km

  6. I'm not sure if this is asked a lot, but I haven't found much on this. How do I learn to crash/dismount the proper way?! I have been riding for three years now, and I've picked it up quite quick (Not to brag, just from what other riders tell me). That being said, I think I could and want to be learning faster. I ride mainly enduro (technical/trails) and desert (so no mx atm), and while I ride often, I don't crash often. I believe that is a good think for the faster stuff (i don't want to roach my body at an early age), but I think it is holding me back from progressing in the technical aspect. I see videos of people trying (and failing) at some crazy stuff, and they usually seem to be able to jump off the bike w/o tearing their knees or spraining their ankles. Is there a way to "practice" this? I feel that once I figure this out I could progress my technical riding immensely because I will be able to push myself and try new things. Thanks for any help you can give! P.S. Haha is there a way to properly crash at speed? That would be helpful too. Cheers!
  7. Came up 3' short on one of the pro tabletop jumps at Jewell MX. Rear wheel caught the lip, bucked my body off the bike, then smashed my chest off the handlebars and flew 20' in the air past my bike. Pretty sure I cracked my sternum, but I still plan on riding again today. I freaking hurt like a mofo tho. No point in going to the doctor, because I've had broken ribs before and they don't do anything for you.
  8. I recently got a 2012 kx85 that was crashed and now has a pretty bent subframe. Since the subframe is welded onto the frame, I can't just change it. I'm planning to buy a new frame and see two options. there is a 2011 kx100 frame and a 2014 kx85 frame for sale. Would either of these fit? if not, what frame would fit? Thanks in advance.
  9. To all who see this post, HELP ! Where: Glamis, Ca When: Friday, January the 27th Subject: Dirt Bike Wheelie Crash by Campground at 50 MPH = RAGDOLL ROLLIN * 5 = 50' OF BACK BREAKING CARNAGE = SEE PICS Weather: 20-25 MPH crosswind I wheelied through this whoop section on this little trail into camp, when all off a sudden I was hit by a gnarly crosswind. I tried to save it, but at 45 MPH I just couldn't. My back end swapped out and Ii tried saving it. Whiskey throttle took over and I went bye bye though. My chest hit the bars, then I just RAGDOLLED for about 50' and 5 flips. From what people say, it was a really bad looking crash and I should be luck I'm not paralyzed or worse. All I remember, was seeing dirt as my head was hitting the ground, then a glimpse of grey light, then black/brown light as my head was crumbling into the ground. I slowly moved my hands and feet to get to my bike and shut it down. It was then when I knew something was really wrong with my lower back. I ICED my back pretty much the rest of the weekend. Once I got home on sunday morning, I went to the UR. They gave me some x rays and said I have no fractures in my back, just severe swelling & bruising from the hard impacts. As well as muscle spasms that are pulling my spine out of alignment. My friend took a look that is a PT, she said that she sees something that could be a fracture. in the L2 region I believe. What do you think? I truly am grateful. BMY BACK STILL IS SWOLLEN LIKE A MOFO. MY ASSCHEEK NOW GOES UP TO MY MID BACK & I HAVE TO WEAR SWEATS OR ELASTIC WAIST PANTS/PJ's. I CAN BARELY EVEN FEEL MY BACK, IT'S LIKE A WEIRD FIFIERY, NUMB, TINGLING FEELING. ANY THOUGHTS ON A DIAGNOSIS OR REMEDY FOR ME TO HEAL? DOCTOR RECOMMENDATION IN ORANGE COUNTY? SEE THE X RAY PICS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK HUNTINGTON BEACH ORANGE COUNTY LESSON LEARNED: LISTEN TO YOUR CONSCIOUS, ENJOY EVERY MINUTE. TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED. BLESSED
  10. Hey all... Help a girl out. I had a blonde moment and crashed on a forest road in 4th gear. I knocked the daylights out of my bike (and also broke a collarbone.) Summary of damage to bike: - the bike starts in neutral but cuts off immediately if I put it in gear. - electric starter doesn't work (only clicks) - gas throttle sticks open - someone told me my handlebars might be damaged but I don't see any cracks. Maybe it just got misaligned. - clutch lever wonky angle - broke the shit out of the speedometer screen - damage to body - broken headlight, shaved off mirrors Here are my questions: 1. Is the gear problem due to my safety switch? How do I fix it? 2. How do I tell if my handlebars are bent 3. Why is the electric starter clicking (bike sat only 10 days since crash. Battery is new.) 4. How do I fix throttle sticking problem Bike is a 2015 beta alp 200 (basically exactly the same bike as a DR200). 5. How long before I can ride again with this collarbone situation ❤️
  11. Hey guys, I was riding this weekend on some slick trails here in the NW. I bounced off a rock and went side down into a muddy embankment, i went down shoulder first at maybe 10 MPH and bonked my head in some clay. I felt totally fine immediately after, no dizziness/pain and kept going. Ive taken similar falls mountain biking and a new helmet wasnt even a thought. I checked the outer shell and inner foam and both look fine. Everything on the internet tells me im going to die if i re-use this helmet. What do you guys do when you go down and bonk the ole noggin??
  12. Hey TT members, Recently I pulled the trigger on a new stock '17SM as a first bike after hearing some of the fantastic reviews it gets here and elsewhere and rode it home stoked as can be this last friday. Stopped off 5 mins away home in a quiet street and got a feel for the thing, some take-offs, shifting, braking etc. was taking it easy but having a blast just with that. During this process I noticed that often when rolling on or off the throttle (to/from idle/freeplay) there can be a bit of a lurch particularly at lower speeds/rpm (coming around a corner etc.). From a bit of trawling around the forums it seems like that this may be 'lugging' the throttle? I guess I was expecting the idle/engaged transition to be a little less jumpy, I guess feathering the clutch at those speeds is required. Anyway I figure way I'll come back to a quiet spot for the next few weeks and build confidence, and particularly master the clutch before I spend too much time on the commute or in heavy traffic. Fast forward to the next morning. Get up early to avoid traffic and head off to do some more practice. Still noticing the lurch on and off, but trying to be smooth with shifts and matching the downshifts in particular. Lo and behold, I come to a set of lights, and begin to shift down (second to first?) - note, it gets a little hazy here - and quick as you know it, the bike is flapping from side to side, I'm gripping the bars wondering what is happening, and then I'm on my arse sliding down the street at 30kph having looped it out from under me. After going over it in my mind, I'm assuming I must have dropped the clutch during the shift and the sudden acceleration sent me back in the seat due to bad body position not gripping tank hard enough with legs, I instinctively grab the bars harder = more throttle, rest is history. Safe to say it scared the shit out of me and my confidence (and hip/neck) are a little battered. Thankfully helmet and gear did the job except for the jacket riding up during the slide and I'm counting my lucky stars that there wasn't anyone behind me or coming the other way. Bike seems fine, a little scratched is all. So for the questions. Obviously the above was pretty much completely rider error, and when the body and mind are ready to get back on I want to put the time into improving my skills (the irony of this happening on the way to do so is not lost on me!) I feel very humbled by the experience, and have a good sense of how far I have to go. In that vein, can anybody recommend any videos/instructionals/etc. for the drz or motard style bikes regarding braking, handling, clutch and body positioning? I feel like there's not a huge amount of cross-over from regular street bikes due to the ergonomics and height etc or am I off the mark there? also at the pre-learner course we were warned off using anything less than 4 fingers to brake with, but between the lurch in rolling off the throttle (even just to set up the brakes) and the braking it feels unsteady. Think I will adjust the levers down a bit to make this easier though. All that being said I'm still wondering about the lurch rolling on and off the throttle. Is this just due to the bike being a single cylinder and liking to rev higher? Is there a way to improve the smoothness from free-play into throttle especially at low speeds? It feels like it comes on and off quite strongly into engine braking at the engagement point. Does this change as the bike breaks in? I noticed that the manual recommends using the clutch below 15kph, though even below around 20 (from the unfortunately VERY limited time i spent on it) the engine was feeling a little unhappy. Just wanted to confirm that this is to be expected Sorry for the essay and appreciating the time taken.. Think I just needed to get it out my head a bit. Cheers, Rotts.
