  1. Rebuilt top end on our 2014 KX250F. C4MX head with all new parts. New Weisco HC Piston and Cylinder. Vortex X10 ecm. Web intake cam. FMF Mega Bomb header stock muffler no mid pipe. Raced one night ran fast but stumbled and sputtered under at low speed when giving full throttle. Took to dyno and tuned the ECM fuel settings via Air/Fuel ratio and the response is great from slow thru wide open. (this engine is on our outlaw kart on 1/8 mile dirt banked oval. 50+mph 10 sec laps. wide open at green rarely lifting.) second race after dyno runs the header starts to glow under warm up in pit but not when racing. engine began to make some noise. third race night engine is knocking loud and i am concerned, we ran it and it was quiet after it was hot. intake side of piston skirt is galled and scratched up. the cyl wall is galled up. the rest of piston is looks great. now i need another new P&C. can anyone confirm if this sounds like a bad lean condition?
  2. Bought new in 1997, my Suzuki DR650 motorcycle in 2014, with 20500 Km on the clock experienced unpredictable catastrophic 3 rd gear disintegration. Eventually in December 2016 the Small Claims Court of South Africa, with Suzuki Auto South Africa defending, the court awarded me my damages claim for the repair of my Suzuki motorcycle. 3. Hello everyone, I'm working with a 06' YZ250F. I'm figuring I need a new cylinder but this is what I'm working with. I was in the process of replacing the crank bearings and when taking it apart i noticed that one of the piston curclips came off and ended up damaging the lower half of the cylinder. It's not terribly deep buts its definitely there. I found the clip in the bottom end once I split the case. I didn't find much of any metal shavings at all once apart. Just the mangled clip. What are your thoughts? Mandatory to replace the cylinder? It's an old bike and not to sure if its worth buying a new cylinder. Thanks for any advice.
  4. I noticed recently that the thin edge of my timbersled track ripped off. Does this even do anything? It seems to work fine. Is this ok to run?
  5. Hey, I just opened my yz250 for the first time of owning it. There are two scraches that I can feel with my finger but they are not deep. Can I hoon the cylinder at all or do I need to get the cylinder replated as well?
  6. Is there supposed to be a bit of resistance? Is it warped? Is the pin worn out? Can I run it without damaging the cylinder? https://streamable.com/mll5b
  7. I was about to replace my sprockets and chain, when I noticed that the countershaft seal screw is sheered off and the threading is broken. I am having a difficult time trying to find what exactly I would need to order to fix this, or if I want to just take it to a garage and have a professional do it. I am just confusing myself more than anything, so I figured I'd ask questions rather than continue to be frustrated. Please ignore the fact the sprocket looks like hell, I know this. The chain snapped while riding and sheered a bunch of things in a fantastic way. 😐
  8. Recently did a once over of my pitty and replaced my clutch plates as they were finally starting to slip a little under full throttle and reassembled clutch and test road the bike to confirm the clutch is working, no problems and so tried full throttle and i was in 3rd gear and suddenly the bike came out of 3rd gear and i heard a grinding noise... hit the brakes hard then stopped and killed the bike. checked my shift fork bolt to make sure the bike wasnt out of whack but now when i shift the bike on the stand into 3rd and 4th i have a clunking noise in the transmission. I am thinking bent shift fork or maybe a busted transmission gear but would love to hear what other people might think? drained the oil and there isnt any metal in the oil, shook the motor and cant hear anything loose inside of it like a gear tooth that broke. im sure im going to have to split the case but any opinion is welcome to what might have caused this.
  9. Is damage on the cylinder head as critical as damage on the actual cylinder walls? .. to me, I can't see this damage having an issue.. but i'm new to all this, that's why I'm posting. Wondering about your guys opinions!
  10. Hi all, I'm posting this about my 2008 WR250F... It's my baby and I've maintained it impeccably. I'm at about the 200 engine hours mark now. I've been riding single track trails for years now and we ride some pretty gnarly stuff. I recently replaced my Flatland aluminum skid plate with a Hyde one, and I think that's where my mistake started, but anyway.... While riding a nasty rock trail (first ride with the Hyde...), I got some air and landed on the skid plate on a fairly flat rock. To me it didn't feel like it hit that hard, but it appears that the impact was hard enough to cause my crankcase to crack (hairline), right above/behind the lower left motor mount, the welded one. I noticed it due to finding small oil drops in my skid plate. I performed a (temporary) JB Weld repair as I wanted to race the Corduroy Enduro and successfully did last weekend. To me the only thing the JB weld could potentially ever do is prevent oil from seeping out. Anyway although the repair still appears intact, oil is still leaking out. The crack is at a brutal spot with behind the engine mount so JB welding it correctly with the engine in place was near impossible. If you're still reading this, I am looking for input from people who have actually performed the task of splitting the cases and potentially replacing the crankcase. I don't really want to sell the bike as is (with full disclosure obviously), because I want to make this bike whole again and ride it 1-2 more years before I likely jump onto a new YZ250FX or WR250F. I think I can get the cases for about 700$ CAD, but what I am looking for is: 1) Just a rough guess, how many extra parts would a person need (seals, orings, bearings, etc), and approximate cost? 250$? 800$? I don't need a detailed list, I can pull that together, I'm just trying to get a rough feel. 2) Any suggestions on where to buy these parts? My local dealer can't give a super price on a case so I'm open to options.... I usually buy from the dealer but for an order this huge I'm willing to shop. Maybe from somewhere in the US that does fair shipping. 3) I know Bombardier offers this for their stuff, but does Yamaha perform these types of repairs/replacements directly? Like factory? 4) Any other opinions on the matter? I don't just trust very many (any?) mechanics and am very detail oriented, so if I do decide to have this work done I would likely do it myself, very slowly and carefully. Let me know, thanks! Luc
