  2. Hello all! New to TT and the dirtbiking world. Just recently purchased a 2014 klx250s at altitude (5000 feet). I almost immediately moved down to 2200 feet in the desert. I don't know what pilot and main jets are currently installed but I can assume it needs to change as the bike is probably running really lean. If anyone has recommendations for what jets to use and other settings to change before I start taking things apart would be gladly appreciated! I don't have a very permanent garage situation so every tune up/part replacement I do I try to make a one day job. I brought the bike with a FMF Q4 Muffler and Power Bomb Header Pipe. Thanks!
  3. After only riding street for about 4-5 years straight I went dirt riding the past 3 weekends in a row! Feels great to not have to worry about cops or cars killing you all the time. Plus it feels like I can still ride good and I know how to do stoppies from street riding😉 almost got all new gear too. Couldn’t be more stoked to ride a dirt bike! Just needs to rain.

  5. Hey there! Looking for new people to ride with in Johnson Valley/Barstow area. Trying to learn new technical skills, push myself, and stay dedicated. I'm a beginner/intermediate rider, pretty new to the sport looking for cool people to ride with. Just a heads up I'm a 19 y/o girl.
  6. Hi all! First time poster. Go easy on me. I'm a long time dirt bike rider from the Mt. Hood, OR area, though I've never competed except for a couple flat track races on vintage Yamaha XS650s. A long time goal of mine is to build a team and race in the Baja 1000. I'm hoping to find a motorcycle team heading to Baja in 2019 or 2020 that I can join (the SF250, Baja 500 or 1000) as a member of the support crew. I figure joining a crew would be a great way to get a lay of the land down there, understand the race and logistics and the process, and just learn from those that know. I'd prefer to join a motorcycle team, but any team would really do for the first time down there. Background on me: my dad has been a mechanic for over 40 years, he got me started wrenching on things when I was young, and I still rebuild motors regularly (2t and 4t singles, and multi cylinder vintage bikes). I think I can handle most things on a pit crew: tire/wheel swaps, fuel, minor wrench and repairs, etc. I've ridden Honda, Yamaha, KTM, Husky, and Husaberg and have pretty solid familiarity with their thumpers. Currently I'm on a 300 XC-W and a FE570. My real strength lies in logistics. I'm a producer in advertising currently at a big footwear/sports brand based in Portland. My whole job is organizing moving parts, personnel, schedules, and budgets for advertising productions around the world. I'd love to bring this skillset to a team if it's needed. Additionally, I used to live in Ecuador and Peru and speak Spanish fluently and have been to Mexico 8 or so times (but never Baja). Hoping this forum post will help point me in the right direction.   7. My 15 year old son has decided he wants to ride dirt bikes with me, which I am very happy about. We’ve been probably 6 times to SVRA’s here in Northern California. He started on a Trail 90 and by the end of that first day was riding my XR400 and trying to master the clutch. Now he’s got the clutch down but is still timid and a little shaky on uneven ground. He said he wants to go on a father/son adventure to the desert and ride. I’ve always wanted to ride in the desert but have never driven down to so cal to ride. I watched a YouTube video last night of a guy riding at El Mirage. It looks like the type of riding he’s capable of, he just needs seat time. I read about 10 pages of posts when I searched for El Mirage here but most were very old. Most were not very helpful either saying the place sucks. I'm thinking maybe end of Feb to go there and ride for a couple days? Does anyone have any recent info about El Mirage during Covid? My son is a beginner so I’m just looking for wide open spaces and fairly flat, wide dirt roads we can explore. We will be riding a street legal XR400 and a green sticker XR600. No camper, so plan to spend the night in Lancaster or somewhere fairly close. Is end of Feb a good time of year? Don’t mind heat, would rather have that than 30+ mph wind. Thanks for any recent info you can provide to a couple of desert newbies.
  8. Background: Girlfriend weighs 115 lb with no gear, mid-pack C rider, getting faster by the day. Arizona desert with lots of rocks, deep whoops, and sand. She says the bike feels pretty planted and is pretty good overall, but complains it doesn't soak up the small rocks and deflects off of larger rocks. (Especially going up hills when it matters the most) 2007 yz125 Bike has .38 kg/mm fork springs and a 4.0 shock spring (Recommended by race tech). Free Sag is 49mm and race sag is 104mm which is about as close as we could get it to the sweet spot. Forks: Compression 20 clicks out - Rebound 10 clicks out. Shock: Compression 20 clicks out - Rebound 11 clicks out. (Forgot to check HS) Valving is stock (Shown below). This will be my first revalve, but I have done plenty of reading/learning thanks to all the awesome people on here. My initial thought is to remove 4 face shims off the base valve and leave everything else the same as a starting point. Beyond that I don't really know where to go. Do you guys recommend changing anything else in the base while I have these apart? How bout the mid? Don't necessarily want to go too crazy right off the bat, but would definitely appreciate your feedback. Thank you in advance!
  9. I'm up for a new rear tire for my 250 XC-F. Stock is a 110/100-18 Dunlop AT81. Ive got 23 hours on it and it's not chunking just slight rounding of the center section. The front is a 90/90-21 and it's holding up extremely well. I don't know if I should throw another AT81 on or try something else. I've been riding a mix of hardpack motocross tracks and Red River sandy off-road trails. My closest tracks/trails are hardpack. Here in Texas when the black dirt dries it becomes concrete and sometimes loose dirt settles on the surface and becomes very slick. On the other hand my favorite trails are very sandy but I drive an hour or so to ride them. What would your suggestion be for a new rear tire? Soft-medium? Medium-hard? Intermediate? I ran a couple Michelin Starcross MH3's and Dunlop 756's and liked them but that was several years ago. I'm leaning towards the Bridgestone X30 but I hear it's not as good as the 404 was.

  12. I’m 5’4” about 125lbs female racing 2020 BITD series and I’m thinking of getting a crf250x. I raced the mint 400 on a crf450r but I would really like an electric start, and preferably a honda... thoughts on racing the 250x?

  15. Hello, For this summer, I was looking for a project. As a desert/trial, and occasionally single track rider from Southern California, any time of the year works for a build like this. I grew up riding two-stroke and after a couple years on four strokes, I want to return to the enduro king. However, KTM and Husky sell their bikes for quite a high price tag. So, I have decided I want to take an older two stroke motocross bike i.e. cr250, yz250, etc., and make it the ultimate desert bike for significantly less than a new KTM. I am not loyal to one brand, but I have always loved Honda and spent a grand a month ago on all new gear with Honda's name plastered all over it. I know all the mods I want to do the bikes to make them enduro/desert ready: heavy flywheel, 18 inch rear wheel, new exhaust, steering stabilizer, etc. What I need help in is I don't know what bikes I can install a wide ratio transmission in. I know yz250 can take a 400 or 426 transmission, but can any other brand? I would like to see a cr250 with the gears of a 450x rippin through the desert. I like the steel frame for off road use, and I just need some advice on the best bike for this conversion. Thanks
  16. Hello people, rebuilding my FCR carb on my 03 450r at the moment from a no idle issue. Im thinking it was the throttle valve slide gasket so I'm ordering a new one. Anyways, I'm wondering what SJ, MJ combinations you guys on crfs are using at 8-11,000 feet. The honda manual says to go down in MJ size and down is SJ size. The local guru at the shop around here says he uses a larger SJ and smaller MJ almost anytime he jets a 4 stroke up here. getting more confident working on this bike after this carb clean. That thing is a pain to get to.
  17. Looking at longer rides where 2.5 won't reach to the next gas station. I've got the stock tank on my 2004 and don't want to switch out with an Acerbis 3.2 because I want to be able to keep the bike light for shorter rides, so I'm looking at external options like the rotopax, maybe a 2 gallon-er? Are the 2 gallons too big, or are there other options I don't know about? Thanks in advance.

  20. I am in need of a new bike for next 2020 enduro/desert race season. I currently ride a 2006 Yamaha YZ-125 stock motor, I race both Motocross and Enduro/desert racing. I love my yz125 but its too much stress on the motor to be racing mx and desert and its also very hard in some parts to be using a 125 mx bike. i have rode 250 2 strokes in the past and owned them as well. I am stuck between a 250 2 stroke or a 300 2 stroke and which would benefit me the best, I am not a super fast or hardcore A class enduro rider, I want something that will be able to do rocky terrain, technical stuff, hill climbs, creek bed rocky sections, and sand sections as well as wide open desert. Which would benefit me the best ? I do not have the money to afford a brand new bike so I will be trying to find a very clean bike mid 2000's maybe a little newer. thank you for the help!

I currently own a 2013 crf250l in California and am ready to sell it to buy something that still is street legal but with a little more beef and less weight for desert riding, I have seen a plated xr400 for sale for 1800$ and was wondering if that will satisfy my needs. thank you. EDIT: Also just found a 1999 plated YZ400f for 2500$ And a 2000 WR400 for 1800$ too PS Almost got a 2012 TE310 for 3300$ but the owner decided to keep it and I am pretty sure that would have been perfect for me.
  22. ....for a couple days while I maintain the bike, and cry while washing my air filter... With about two miles left of the Casey Folks 100 I went through a few water sections and my bike died. I tried restarting it, nothing. I tried pushing it through sand, but I was too tired. I quit. So I walked a mile and called for a ride. Help arrives and tells me I am pussy. They make me check stuff, and everything checks ok. I kick it, it starts. I finished about 1.5 hours later than I should have. I am pretty sure I was doing better than most in my class. Anyone want to guess what happened? I will give you a hint; I tried gluing my gas cap vent hose the night before... Casey Folks always said my bikes were pieces of shit.
