I am considering buying a crf 250l dual sport. I like the size and seems like the perfect lil bike to whip around town in. Its my alternative to a scooter. Not to mention the price tag is very attractive. I'd like to make it into a scrambler. My buddy told me this would be difficult because this particular bike has a perimeter frame, and a metal gas tank wouldn't properly fit. Also the radiator is up front under the plastics and would stick out funny. Any ideas and could someone school me on what a perimeter frame is and why a cool looking metal gas tank won't fit? Any ideas on how to make this possible? I know the xr 650 could work but I like how small and cheap the 250 is. Thanks

Hi guys, new to the forum. I am getting into the whole dirtbike scene and idea of dual purposes as well. I am a long time sport bike rider for the past several years, i have owned multiple sportbikes. Been getting pretty bored of the sportbikes so i am looking to try a dual purpose out for a new change of things. Plan on mainly doing some city driving and some mild offroad trails, nothing real hadcore but if i see a random trail while riding i'd like to hit it. Also if i need to go on the freeway bike has to be able to do highway speeds , dont care about passing but dont want the bike to suffer doing the speed limit. I've been doing some research and got it narrowed down to a few bikes, but i'd like to see your opinions. I'd like something with a bit of torque, i liked sportbikes because of the power. I know im comparing to different animals but i'd like to have a dual purpose that gives me a bit of thrill, doesn't have to be racey, but i'd like a lil torque. I've been looking at the DRZ's DRZ 400, DR650 and the honda 650L any opinions or some other bikes you'd recommend? Thanks all.

Hi everyone, I'm a 110pounds and 5'5 lady. I am an intermediate rider. I currently own a Yamaha TW200 and absolutely love it. I do 50% roads and highways and 50% trails. However, I felt like I was "growing out of it" and I felt like I needed a slightly more powerful bike. A friend was selling his CRF250L. I made the mistake of buying it. It is great on the road, but absolutely sucks on trails. It is too heavy for trails and it felt very unstable compared to my beloved TW200. The issue is also that I can only drive 70km before I run out of gas! The gas mileage is horrible. I need a dual purpose motorcycle that is low as I'm a little short. There are not a lot of gas stations where I live and distances can be very far apart so I need a decent gas mileage. So do you know of a dual-purpose that would be fast enough for highways, good gas mileage, low and fun on trails? I bought the CRF250L yesterday, tried riding it today and it's on my local buy and sell page tonight It's unfortunate, but it doesn't suit my needs. Thank you
