  1. Hey guy I’m going to the beach in ocean shores, Washington in a few weeks. Wanted to bring my bike to explore, primarily want to ride some dunes by the coast, wanted to ask if there’s any designated riding around that coast of ocean shores, or grayland area?

  3. I’m 16 I have a banshee quad but want a motorcycle . I am debating between a dual sport and a dirt bike. I have a truck so I could get the dirt bike to the dunes and trails .but a dual sport would be nice to ride to the trails that are 30 minutes away dunes are 45 min away .I like going fast but also want something reliable. my budget is around 5k . What are your thoughts on what would be best thanks.

  5. Can anyone provide some insight on an xr650l in the dunes , I got a trip coming up to go to sand mountain later this month, main question is what paddle number count to run, 8 or 10? I keep reading an 8 is good for a 450 and bigger bikes
  6. I'm finally getting the chance to go to the dunes in Oregon and cant decide weather I should run a 8 or 10 paddle tire on the back of my 81 YZ465 2stroke. Suggestions? Pros and cons for each? Thanks!
  7. I am looking at getting more serious with riding, I have been riding an older Suzuki DR200 on some dirt trails and dirt roads for fun the last 5 years or so, and had a ttr 125 for a few years. I would say I'm not a very experienced rider but feel I can handle some more power. Only issue is that I am 5'5" and 135 lbs. I am looking for a bike that can take trails, but also something that can handle dunes. I've never ridden dunes before but my buddies recently got a place near some and want to be able to ride with them. I have been looking at some yz 250s but I think its just way to tall. I am all for shaving a seat an looking into lowering the suspension but am curious if anyone has any suggestions that might fit me better.
  8. I have the opportunity to get a 2006 ktm 300 xcw. Im trading 2 1986 250rs one with a lot of work done to the motor but the case blew out. The other one is just a parts bike. Im just wondering if the ktm is a good bike? I know its a good woods bike but how is it on the dunes or hill climbing? I dont ride track but i do like to jump occasionally. Is it worth it?

  10. My Ride: 2009 KX450F Ok, took a trip to Silver Lake dunes in MI. Ran into some engine problems. Background: I had been trail riding this bike for a bunch of rides leading up to this day with no performance issues. New to me bike this April, sat for months, didn't actually start riding it until a few weeks ago really. I have never washed the air filter. It was oiled and washed by the previous owner though and he took care of it pretty meticulously and knew bikes. Leading up to my dune ride, even with a bunch of trail riding, still didn't wash the air filter (and still no engine problems). Dune ride Day 1: rolled in, in the afternoon, but didn't have time to put on filter skins I had. Rode for about 2 hours, no problems. Dune ride Day 2: late start, but did some prep in the lot before riding. Don't know if any of this matters, but the only notable thing I did with air filter was put a FRESHLY OILED AND WET skin over my air filter. I know, it should've been dry, but I didn't prep the night before, but didn't want to ride all day with no skin. I think it being wet/oiled actually attracted more sand. Perhaps a better alternative for sand riding is a DRY air filter and a DRY filter skin. Still protection, but sand won't stick to it. I don't really get why air filters are oiled anyways. I get that the idea is to make stuff harder to pass thru filter and make it stick, but it seems like a catch 22 cuz it will cause it to get dirtier cuz it's attracting dirt. Sort of like a lubed up chain will attract dirt and grime on it. Anyways, didn't really have any notable spills/wrecks (had some easy drops), so perhaps that's how sand entered airbox, but anyways. The bike worked great for the first few hours. Then, out of nowhere, it started to get boggy, or feel like it was bogging. It's FI, so it shouldn't be bogging, but that's the best way to describe it. The bike wasn't giving me any power. I figured (hoped) it was low on gas, so I parked it for a while, walked down grabbed my gas and fueled up. This was a windy day, so perhaps sand accumulated a bit while riding and then while sitting there waiting for gas. Gassed up, but the engine only got worse. Got so bad, I could barely go across flat ground in 1st gear (grades I coulda lugged EASILY in 4th gear and powered around). I mean, I was wide open in 4th/5th tearing around. I rode back down and cut it off. Haven't touched it since. I'm not sure where to start or how to troubleshoot on this one. I've never gotten into the airbox/FI system. I'm not sure what happened to the engine (sand in cylinder maybe, scratched walls, rings lost seal, maybe it's just a dirty air filter, but considering it's been ridden dirty without cleaning whatsoever, shouldn't be that). When I opened airbox last night to check for sand, there was some gunk around the edges, but to me it didn't seem like anything that woulda killed my engine like it did. The air filter was still relatively clean. Even the skin over the filter was relatively clean. Any idea what's wrong? What should I check? I'm afraid to start it and let it exacerbate problems.
  11. Hey TT, I went to the dunes a few months ago for the first time on two wheels. I threw a paddle tire on my Beta 500 and stiffened my suspension, and went out to see what it was all about. I had way way way more fun than I thought I would, and can't wait to do it again. BUT I felt the enduro style bike was just not suited for the Glamis Dunes. Suspension was still too soft, transmission had me shifting all over the place, and the added weight wasn't exactly helpful. So I may be in the market for an inexpensive SX style 450 that I can just make my dune bike, and leave my 500 for the trails. I'm hoping to stay in the 4k or less price range, but I also want to get the best bang for the buck. I'm guessing that puts me at roughly the 2008 to 2014 mark on a used bike, unless I find a good deal on something even newer than that. What bike do you recommend, and why? What would make a KX better than a YZ, or CRF better than a RM, or vice versa, etc. Also I know a lot of people will recommend a 2T 250. While I already have a couple two strokes and love the hell out of them, I don't think the power characteristics are as good in the sand (personal preference).
  12. I do dunes with the occasional trail ride, I have a budget of about $3000 and want something that’s reliable but will pull me through dunes without trouble. I had a cr250 that I traded for a banshee because my family started to do more dunes but I want a bike back. I see guys fly on the 450s so I’m wondering if I should get one of those. What should I get?
