    2005 crf 250r noise

    I recently bought a 05 crf 250r and it's been making a slight ticking noise. I checked the timing and it's perfect. I also checked the cam chain and it was pretty snug. I haven't checked the valves however. If someone has any idea what it is I'd appreciate the advice. heres a link to the vid

    odd engine noise low tone whine/howl

    I picked up a 2014 KTM XCF-W 350 with 36 hours on it off craigslist. I was told it had no problems with it and it was check out by a mechanic. Silly me thought is was a steal of a deal and picked up overlooking major potential issues. First off noticed the oil was way over full and oil leaking thru the weep hole (no oil was leaking after 30 min test ride). Tells me the water pump bearings need to be replaced. Done. Fixed that issue, no more leak. With new motor oil and filter and new coolant. The bike makes great power, starts on first try no issue except this very odd sound. I originally heard this sound during the 30 min test ride and this being my first KTM, thought this was normal. I now feel it is an issue. This sound is like a deep whine/hum. The sound resonates around the front of the motor, the tone is not affected by rpm's, no power lose, no issues starting, the sound is loud enough to hear inside my helmet doing hwy speeds, the sounds is almost constant (meaning that at certain speeds it may go away but it may just be drownded out my the sound of the muffler). The sound is heard at idle but not when the motor is cold(at first start up). The bike is not over heating. First thought is a spun bearing but then its not affected my rpm. Second thought maybe water pump but its not overheating. Third thought maybe its a thermostat not operating correctly as this would have nothing to do with rpm's and works with hot and cold engine. The only thermostat i know of is at the cap where coolant is added. If i am overlooking something or you have experienced this before. Please let me know. I am going crazy trying to figure this out. Have not come across anyone experiencing this same issue on this forum or google. What are your thoughts. THank you.
  3. My bikes been hard to start and making a ticking noise in the top end after a new piston and crank. Just removed valves and nothing broken or bent a lot of carbon build up on the exhausts especially though (I guess this is normal?) Some cam journal wear = some scoring marks nothing's crazy and a minor bent c clamp is my only guess... piston didn't look like the valves were beating it but I dunno ...   4. I have freshly rebuild my top end on my 2009 yzf250, new intake valves piston and rings, cam chain. I put it all back together ran mint, but after starting it up for about the 3Rd time a loud knocking noise from the engine appears, the bike is still running fine although a very obvious loud knocking noise. valves are all inspect aswel. note, the knocking id only at one certain compression stroke its past TDC its a short stroke but quite a difficult one, never had even put it in gear so i dont think it is the trans. i also ripped out the cams a couple times thinking that was the problem and once i put it together it ran mint for about 4 seconds then knocking came back. I originally thought it was the exhaust cam decompression sticking but after inspection was not making the nosie. I took the flywheel off and checked if I had put it wrong, but no. have just tore apart the clutch side cover and all teeth are fine. I am at a point where I don't know what to do next. please any advice is much appreciated.
  5. I'm new to KTM but glad to be here. Just bought a used 2011 SXF 450. It sounds different than other bikes I've had int he past. I just want to make sure there isn't anything out of the ordinary... peace of mind, really. The sound I'm hearing is more significant on the right side of the bike. There is no knocking or ticking from what I can tell, just a noisier engine then I'm used to. I hear KTM's have a thinner engine case, so maybe that's why. I also hear the timing chain tensioner tends to be an issue with these bikes. Please take a listen to the video and let me know what you think. Thanks!

    High RPM Scraping Noise 2011 CRF250x

    I have a 2011 CRF250x, I've always been on top of maintenance, never really flogged the bike. From about this time last year the bike developed a sort of rubbing/scraping noise coming from the left side of the motor only when it was 3/4 throttle or more. I thought it might have been drivetrain so I pulled over, put it in neutral and did the same thing (3/4 throttle and more) while sitting still and it did the same thing. The bike sat in the shed for about 6 months and then I took it out to see if I could figure it out. I pulled the valve cover off and everything seemed normal, nothing loose, valves still in clearances. I also pulled the cam chain tensioner out, I wasn't game enough to go further so I put it back together and started it. No noise. It was fine, I rode it for about 1-2 months with no noise at all. I had to get a friend to ride it to get it inspected for road worthy and the noise is back. I've tried taking the cam chain tensioner out again and it hasn't worked this time. The noise has also become worse and at lower RPM (more like 2/3 throttle now). I'm wondering if this has been experienced by anyone else also and how they fixed it. I'm not game enough to continue riding it as I'm not sure whether the noise is something going bad. I'm keen to fix the problem as I've been without a bike for so long, I just don't have the money to pay someone to dig around the bike for me. Thanks in advance

    Alright I have searched and have done research on forums before but have never posted. New guys get eaten alive, I don't mind just help me out. I have an 05 yz250 that runs like a champ, well I came across a 2015 yz250 that I couldn't pass up but she don't sound right to me. Got it to the house, fires up, idles correctly, and revs smoothly. Little bit about the bike, it has a fmf fatty with the Q slip on that looks like a four stroke pipe, but no other real engine mods. At the top of the power band the bike sounds as if the power valve is loose or there's maybe a slight piston slap. I have had a bike with piston slap and it doesn't come to me as that. This is where I need your help. It does the loud cackle noise at the top of the band, then falls smoothly back into the power as it revs down some. Also when down shifting to bring on the power it makes a slight delay with a weird sounding small pop(kinda like a back fire, just quieter). Any help before I open this thing up would be helpful!!!!     kx450f Engine noise

    My 2006 KX450f Started making this noise when i shut it off. Bike runs fine otherwise and doesnt have any issues. Does anyone know what this noise is or ever ran into this issue Thanks,

    DRZ-400e Engine Vibration

    2007 DRZ-400e - I have lately had a weird engine noise coming from inside the engine at exactly 4800 - 5000 rpm. It is like a high vibration / grinding noise. I have done some digging on forums on TT but nothing seems to have quiet the same problem. The noise is going up and down gears, but only once the engine is hot. I have ordered a MCCT incase it is the Cam-Chain (though a cam-chain could make noise through all rpm) but has anyone else had this problem or a big enough gear head to give some advice on what to check? Bike has done around 20,000km's. Any help is greatly appreciated guys!!
