  1. hi does anyone know where to buy dirtbike exhausts that are made for highway use im thinking to legalize my kawasaki kx85cc dirtbike and any tips for doing it?
  2. I know this topic has been discussed in the past, but I have not found any options available for the new 2018 bikes. I live and work for a new Beta Dealer (Auburn Extreme Powersports) in California, and we are having a difficult time mapping the RR-S bikes for full FMF exhausts. We have tried contacting Beta Support several times for this issue to no avail, and we typically are given the runaround when transferring to techs and secretaries. From what we can gather, the FMF flash is designed for the RR bikes, but not the street-legal counterparts. Every time we try to install the FMF map onto an RR-S errors occur, and the programmer screen goes virtually blank. We have heard through the grapevine that some are using the RR maps on the RR-S with success, but we have yet to try it, even on our own bikes for fear that it will permanently erase or damage the CDI. Any and all help or suggestions regarding this topic would surely be appreciated! Thanks, Ben.
  3. Hey guys I have a 2017 Honda 250r and I’m looking for a silencer to quiet it down I was looking at a FMF 4.1 RCT slip on silencer anyone know what dB reading it is for my bike
  4. I just put an fmf powerbomb on my 2006 yz250f and started it up a few times and have began to hear a slight tick in the top end. I also turned the bike over maybe 20 times without starting it to test for air leaks in the exhaust. Could this have caused too much back pressure and thrown off my valves? (the muffler plug WAS in). I know the normal 4 stroke engine noise, but this doesn't sound too normal. Could you guys take a listen and let me know? Hoping it's a normal sound. Any help appreciated! Video of sound:
  5. Ok, I idolize, worship the new 2018 YZ450F (new for me because I bought it late in the year). Haven't had any starting issues or had to use the new starter plunger until the winter temperatures crept in. I keep it in an off and on heated garage, but in the morning it's cold, and would not start so easily anymore as it did in the summer, where I never before had to use the starter circuit. The F.S.M says to push the plunger all the way in, then hit the starter, and let the engine run/rev at 3000-5000rpm!!! for 1-2 minutes. Then, your supposed to operate the throttle, as the chop throttle direction is supposed to kick the plunger back out to its N.O.T. position. I did exactly this, but, when I operate the throttle, the throttle close direction DOESN'T kick the plunger back out. The engine was revving at about 3100rpm for only about 40 seconds, when, to my dismay, I looked down at the engine & exhaust pipe; the exhaust pipe exiting the cylinder port was glowing so hot I swear it was almost molten! Screaming inside my head, I quickly grabbed a pair of long slip joint pliers to pull the plunger back out (or else I'd no doubt brand myself on the glowing exhaust), and the motor rpm dropped to a more conventional warm/idle up speed. I then had to accelerate the water pump briefly, then cut the engine. I waited a few seconds, and started it up again, and varied the throttle slightly. I repeated this a few times in order to cycle the motor, and safely remove the heat conduction thru the cylinder head. My YZ450F runs great, post incident, and has more power than ever now. My only issue is now I have to always have a pair of pliers when cold starting the powerhouse, because the throttle and starter plunger still don't communicate. I DON'T let it run for more than like 15 seconds on fast idle anymore. My question is, WHY did the pipe heat up so much if that is how long it's recommended to fast idle, AND does anyone else have this issue with their starter plunger sticking, or had their pipe heat up orange hot? I went to the dealership to correspond with the mechanics there and no one was able to give me any information. Please, ONLY 2018+ YZ450F owners need reply on this thread, as it is a BRAND NEW starting device on a fuel injected engine for Yamaha, so other instances or experiences will not apply.
  6. I have been looking a bit into differences between XT and TT250, 2-valve, 1980 onwards. What I have found so far is 28 vs 30 mm carb, 9.2:1 vs 9.7:1 compression ratio (different piston), and a different exhaust system. The cylinder head and valves seem to be identical. As stated in a previous post, I just bought a project XT250, and am looking for a few small improvements. Including exhaust system. KEDO in Germany has a stainless exhaust pipe that may be an option for me, in combination with a Supertrapp or other aftermarket muffler. So I would really like to know the diameter of the TT250 exhaust pipe (headpipe/ header). External, internal, or even both of someone knows or has one they can measure for me.
  7. I have a 2003 yz125, it’s excessively dripping oil out of the silencer and where it meets the exhaust, there’s a lot of oil, it’s throwing out huge amounts of smoke and starting to foul out plugs. I’ve already replaced the clutch side seal (I’m almost positive it’s coming from the transmission oil) and repacked the exhaust. After that it seemed to stop or at least slowed down. After sitting for a couple months I changed the transmission oil once again and started it up, I let it warm up and didn’t feel like it had the normal amount of power and kinda bogged down, we revved the hell out of it and it cleared up and felt normal. We loaded up and drove out the the desert and I started it with the choke on and let it idle, after about a minute it died and wouldn’t turn over at all. We came back home and took out the spark plug and it was fouled replaced it and it ran again. The next day the same thing happened. Any thoughts on what I should do? The engine was recently rebuilt and I only use it for trail riding and run about a 40:1 ratio. Thanks
  8. Hi Guys I was on XR's Only website last night, and see that they have updated the looks of the muffler for their exhaust system. Looks much better than the old one. http://www.xrsonly.com/xrs-only-exhaust-pipe-honda-xr400r-stainless-steel-cone-tip http://www.xrsonly.com/xrs-only-exhaust-header-honda-xr400r So I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with their full system? It will be for a 440 setup. They say the header is larger, but also say the muffler can connect to stock headers?? Sooooo, Power?....Quality?...Noisy or not? Thanks 🙂
  9. Does anyone know a company that has decent prices for custom expansion chambers? My kdx 400 expansion chamber is cracking and I’d like to get a new stock one made same as the oem just fresh metal. Any suggestions would help alot!!
  10. KTM 250sx leaks a large amount of oil or splooge from the exhaust where the exhaust connects to the muffler or the head and some leaks from the large exhaust piece that 2 strokes have, idk what it's called exactly, sorry. I believe it's an exhaust leak making it leak from those places, but I'm only worried about if it is bad for the bike to leak like that. Is it supposed to leak that much? I don't have much experience with 2 strokes, and I want to know if it is okay for the bike to stay leaking that much and through the exhaust like that? I will eventually seal it, but it is significantly more than my kx100 did, which I would expect obviously. Ik 2 strokes are supposed to do this, and the guy I got it from knows a lot about bikes, especially 2 strokes, and he said that is okay, just want to make sure.
  11. Hi, I was wondering if it's possible to put a crf250x exhaust on a crf250r. The reason is I need a quite exhaust for riding on a small property. And Are their any other products that will do the same (something as quite as a crf100f stock exhaust). Thanks
  12. Hey DRZers. I have a question for those with the experience and knowledge. I have two DRZ400Es('01 and '02). Both have full aftermarket exhausts with spark arrestors. The 2001 is street legal and the '02 is not, as of yet(fingers crossed), I'm in CA. On the '01 it has a full Yoshimura Comp exhaust and I am wondering which set up better or the differences in performance characteristics. I can't just jump on each bike to do testing as the '02 is not registered yet because I am attempting to get it street legal. So I was wondering if anyone on here has first hand experience and knowledge of these two systems on these bikes. I want to take the best off both bikes and then sell off the other once the '02 is street legal. I will note that the Yoshimura system was probably put on the bike back in 2001-02 as the bike was fully set up for desert runs with ProCircuit Suspension tuning, Tokyo Mods Carb work(which was crap) and a Baja Kit light set up. I state this because the Yoshi system is old and must be straight from the designs they made for Mike Kiedrowski and Suzuki's eduro team. Also, the header on the Yoshi is about 3cm larger on the OD than the T4. Here are two photos of the Yoshi system. The T4 muffler is significantly smaller in diameter and rides higher up next to the fender. I'm planning to make sure one of the bikes if fully buttoned up tight for a first time entry into the Barstow to Vegas race in November. weight is of some concern. Thanks guys!!!
  13. I'm sure this topic has been abused but...I have read that the FMF FACTORY 4.1 RCT Slip On improves the low and mid performance. Does it rob the top end at all to do this? Has anyone that has installed experienced any loss in their top end? Does it still pull as long in 5th?
  14. My 2011 TE-250 has a sooty exhaust (black powder) both at the pipe sleeve prior to the silencer and at the discharge. Does this indicate to rich, timing off? Starts and runs great, some low end bog...
  15. I recently bought a 2011 Kx450 and am having some issues starting the bike. Ive ridden dirtbikes since i was little and ive never owned a four-stroke or anything with EFI. So tuning and tinkering is something I need some help on. Anyways, I can kick a thousand times on the bike and it seems like it wants to start it wont start unless I blip the throttle, and very carefully because too much and the thing will either kickback or backfire. Cant use the idle knob either because then it really pops and backfires. It takes about 5-10 kicks with the bliping method. Ive check plug, fuel filter, new fuel, everything is fine. Once the bike runs and is warmed up it dies without the choke after about 10 seconds. As far as I know it hasnt had the ECU reprogrammed with the full system, would it really make it that hard to start without a reprogram? Should I send it in or just buy a stock header for it?
  16. So I bought this bike about 2 months ago .. noticed a small leak where the exhaust manifold and expansion chamber meet the head mounting studs.. seems to progressively get worse as I ride as I notice more smoke. so I pulled off my pro circuit pipe and my exhaust manifold and I noticed the top stud is super stripped (the nut just keeps spinning on the stud). I am wondering how I can get this stud out because it seems to just be a stripped stud and it will not just turn out with vice grips.. and are there any recomended studs or sealers I can use ? Also how am I going to screw in the new stud without damaging the threads ? As you can see I don't have enough room to put 2 nuts on and screw it out as I tried that !
  17. I have a 1995 kx80 and have a Pro Circuit racing pipe and 304 silencer on it. The bike is too loud for where I ride. I want to know if I could put a Fmf slip on on my dirtbike. I dont need a exact fit but I need something. My Kx80 hit 120 Db when I was revving it up and 100 from 5 feet away idling. Can some on please help me.
  18. I have a 2016 YZ250F. I ride/race MX. I'm looking to wake up the motor a bit and am looking at different exhausts. I haven't been able to track down a good pipe comparison for my bike - The best I've found is an MXA shootout for 2014. That shootout rated the Yoshimura the best but gave the pros and cons of each pipe. Is there a pipe shootout for my bike that I just can't find, or am I stuck with digging up individual reviews? If so, could somebody please send me links to some of the reviews? Thanks in advance.
  19. I have my 2001 DRZ400S I have converted to a supermoto, and now I want to start doing performance mods. I want to do the 3X3 mod, along with a jet kit, and a pipe. As of now my personal choice is going to be the Yoshi RS2 Full system, a Dynojet jet kit, and a K&N filter for the 3X3. I am posting this to see if anyone would disagree with this setup, or have any recommendations on what might be better or worth doing along the way. (I do not want to wait 4 weeks for the MRD exhaust or I would go that route) Any comments or recommendations are greatly appreciated, Going to do this in about one week. Thank you, Brad
  20. I just picked up a ‘98 CR250 to turn into a woods bike and it has a chaparral racing plate welded on the pipe. I can’t find any information on the internet of them ever selling their own pipes. Is this an fmf or stock pipe rebranded?
  21. Just installed an FMF system (powerbomb header & Q4 slip on) on my ‘05 KLR 650. Used contact cleaner and Permatex copper high temp silicone on both ends of the header. Got it up to operating temp and noticed a thin steady stream of white smoke where header and slip on meet. I idled the bike at operating temp for about 5-10 min and it didn’t produce any more/ thicker smoke so My best guess is probably something in/on the pipe burning off, probably nothing serious but i am curious as to what this might be?
  22. I bought a 2006 WR250F a few years back that had no spark arrestor or tail pipe. Any advice where to find exhaust/silencer insert that fits directly on the 06 WR250 but with larger diameter outlet than stock. This would be with 4 mounting holes to fit up to the end plate. I want to keep my existing end cap. I see the GYTR, out there but it seems way over priced at $50+ , and they dont really show the entire component. From years past, it seems that there were alternatives from PMB, ect. but do not see them available now. Considered making my own with all of the years of discussion and advice here on TT, but I would have thought by now, this would be a typical part, easy to find. Also want to get spark arrestor. Ideally, a combo insert/ spark arrestor aftermarket. What am I missing?
  23. So i was pulling the springs on my bike to install the header, and the bracket on the left side snapped off. I understand I should probably take the cylinder to a welder, but could I get away with using one spring? The pipe is extremely tight on the cylinder and doesn’t move at all. The bike is a 99 yz125.
  24. https://www.hydra-force.co.uk/product/hydraforce-exhaust-blow-out-kit/ A friend just bought this. Anyone try this yet?? Screwed up and started another double thread again.. sorry
  25. I am having trouble getting the original inserts out of my Yoshimura RS-9's. Has anyone put the sparky's in these and had success? I bought the spark arrestors from Yoshimura, but for some reason cannot get the original inserts out to put in the spark arrested inserts. When I remove the bolt and nut, the insert doesn't budge at all. These pipes have fragile carbon end caps and I do not want to damage them by using force to try and pry them out. Here is the back of the pipes for reference. Thanks in advance Chase
