  1. Hi all, I have a question that i haven't found some clear cut info about. Id just like to hear it from the community.... my mate and i are honda CRF boys , and sadly when we were recently on an out ride in the South African landscape, his engine came to a halt & seizure! what a day it was getting the bloody thing back to the car! Anyway we are young adults at uni who dont really have a lot of mony spare! we managed to find a way to rapidly replace the bike and to save money. We found a running 2004 yama yz250 2t and the guy traded us a seized 2005 crf250 for this- he specialized in chop shopping Honda and obviously saw value in this trade. it obviously came with its quirks.... this yz250 has: -1998 yz 250 motor -CDI from an 80cc yz When we first took the bike to the track it would not start. I noticed the following: -small holes in the expansion chamber (a few, none bigger than the tip on an Aux jack)- what is the impact of these small holes on the bike? ( i will use fire-gum to fix) -muffler does not tightly fit to the end of expansion chamber. FYI, fuel mix was 50:1- recommended by the oil we used- i have been told that old Yamaha are better with more oil? 25:1? So leading up to my question: when we eventually got the bike started (Bump start) it really ran lumpy, and bogged when the accelerator was pulled and eventually died. when i get the chance to look at the bike, what is the impact of holes in an expansion chamber?- could this be a reason for starting and power issue and bogging under acceleration?? Could this be because of a CDI from an 80cc? Could this be Fuel Mix? Spark Plug? apart from those questions, i am going to change the spark plug anyway- i can assume that maybe this could be due to a faulty plug?- maybe?? anyway, this is what i know. perhaps you guys would be able to add to my theories or tell me something more that i could investigate? thanks, Luke
  2. Hey guys, about finished with my 89 cr restore. Well, mechanically. Its still looks like it fell out the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down, buuuut, I just went to slap my exhaust on and break in the fresh top end, ans realized I left the expansion chamber on the back burner and its caked in carbon, and covered in splooged all inside. My question to you fine people is this: best solvent/method of cleaning the inside of an expansion chamber. This thing has been hammered by years of an idiotic owner who couldn't mix gas correctly nor maintain his investment. Either way, its the Works pipe which they no longer make for the CR, so I would REALLY like to refurb it to brand new. I heard the heat method is no good for stainless expansion chambers, and although I am a welder, I'd rather not cut into the pipe itself. I also have too much pride to pay someone else to do it. So, any ideas? Thanks!
  3. Hey guys - I'm fixing up an old 1999 yz250, I'm wondering if expansion chambers from newer models (stock or aftermarket) will fit? and if so - which years are compatible. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you guys have some ideas for me to try and bring that mirror like shine back be sure to let me know. All answers are helpful!   5. Hi. I have a 1996 YZ125 I'm putting together. It does not have an expansion chamber. I have sourced one from a 1998YZ125. Will it fit on the 1996 model? The oem numbers are different but the pipes look the same in the Yamaha parts schematic Any help would be much appreciated Tony

    Pipe is currently on my 2014 YZ250 which means it will fit 2007 to 2021 YZ250s, maybe more not sure. I'm in Central Texas. I would trade for a similar condition Fatty in Texas. For now, Texas only, would like to avoid shipping. It is like new...will post a better pic this weekend when I return from travel. $180 or best offer

  7. I am restoring a 1989 CR80, and I have discovered that the expansion chamber has been bent backward towards the engine at the “U”, resulting in misalignment at the mating surfaces of the pipe end and the cylinder/exhaust manifold. The gap is about 6mm at the top of that mating surface. First pic is from side and second is from top. Third pic is just for fun. The expansion chamber and muffler are both original and otherwise in very good shape. I have been unable to locate a used expansion chamber for purchase, and I do not have the proper tools or a source of heat to be able to bend it back to its original shape. What type of shop might be able to fix this for me? An independent Harley shop that makes custom exhaust? An industrial pipe fitter? Other ideas?
  8. Hi all, I'm looking at a new pipe for my yz250. I'm currently running stock, but have found a fmf gytr for a good price. Is it worth the change? I've heard the stock works pretty well overall. Does anyone know what the pros/cons would be? Tia
  9. Any of you guys out there that know about the hpp engines on the af frames? I have an 03 cr125 with a 1995 engine im looking to buy a new expansion chamber. Should i buy a 95 pipe or an 03 pipe
  10. Has anyone tried to remove the chrome plating on their pipe? I wanted to get a works raw finish pipe for my 2000 CR250R , but FMF ,Pro Circuit, Bill's no longer make the non plated works pipes for the 2000-2001 anymore. I have a FMF SST and it is in pretty good shape still it only has a few small dings in the expansion chamber. I did see a guy on You Tube do some chrome plating removal using his "special" chemicals and using a variable low voltage power unit for what looks like a electrolysis process to remove the chrome, then a second "special" chemical with a different voltage to remove the nickle plating under the chrome. Sadly I don't have his "special" chemicals nor a variable low voltage power supply just sitting around. Any suggestions on how to DIY it at home? Thanks
  11. I have a 2014 KTM 300xc and recently put a P3 pipe guard on. Long story short, P3 sent me a defective pipe guard and it scratched up my expansion chamber. They were nice enough to send me a brand new one no charge (great company). Has anyone had any experience getting scratches like these out? I have tried scotch brite pads and mothers aluminum polish but no luck. Side question: would a shop be able to refinish it or nickle plate it? I know nothing about these things but just figured someone on here would have the answer. TIA!
