  1. I am looking at getting my first dirt bike, I have ridden quads and have always wanted to ride bikes. Before people start sharing there opinions about 2 stroke vs 4, this is what I'm looking to get out of the bike. Something that is fun and easy to learn on, Period. Don't worry about maintenance costs or the "thrill" of 2 strokes etc... I originally though 2 stroke but my buddy has a 2 stroke kx250 and i felt like i was out of control every time time i gave more then a touch of throttle. Is this because I'm new to riding dirt bikes or is this a 2 stroke thing. I want something that is easy to control and I like what people say about the smooth power bands on the 4 strokes. Cheers, Kyler
  2. Hi, I am looking to get my first dirt bike, female 5' 2" 125lbs.. I have experience riding quads, and a little experience just playing around on pit bikes and kids bikes.. Checking out the CRF 125, KLX 140, and TTR 125.. They all seem like a good place to start, especially being short and new to the sport. I think ill pick up riding pretty quick but want a bike thats gonna be a good starting point, not to big/tall/heavy, yet reliable and fun.. Ive looked at the CRF and KLX so far, I like the idea of a little extra power with the klx.. but like the kick start option of the CRF and in general kinda like Hondas.. Another friend recommended the TTR so just want opinions/comparisons and input from anyone willing, thanks so much!
  3. Hello! Im new here and about to get my first bike. Ive ridden for quite a few years but never my own bike. Ive rode a 86 xr 200, a 2003 ttr 230 and a 08 ktm 300xcw. Now im haveing a hard time deciding between a ktm 150sx or xcw, and a 250 sxf. I do not want a 250 2 stroke because its too much for me for what i do. Im 5' 10" 150lbs and i do 95% woods riding. Lots of roots, rocks, hills and tight corners. when i go camping i love to explore the mountains and get up high and find the best views. Ive read that the 150 is great to grow on, but i would like to have my next bike for at least 6 years. I love to play in the woods and have fun riding, i feel i could do that on a 250 4 stroke but i would like some opionions. I live in Merritt, British Columbia in canada and bikes are going fast and are limited. There may not be a 150 xcw to get soon but they have a couple 150sx's. Im wondering if the 150 2 stroke is a better choice over a 250 4 stroke for the riding i do. Thank you in advance!
  4. Hi, I'm 16 and looking to buy my first dirt bike. I'm pretty dead set on a 2 stroke, but dont know what to get. I'm 5' 11", 165 pounds, and only have experience on 4 stroke utility quads(500 Polaris etc.). I'll be riding old gravel roads, pastures, and the occasional trail. I like going fast, but don't know if a 250 would be too much power. I also don't know if the 125 will have enough to keep me entertained or not. Some people say they have them going 85, some say 55. So the question is: first bike, 125 or 250?
  5. Anyone got some cheap mods for 03 ttr 90. It's my daughters first bike and she already wants more power.
  6. Hello everyone! I was wondering what Dirt bike would be good for me,details below. 1. What is your skill Level (be honest)? Novice (2 stroke 50cc scooter) 2. What's your height & weight? Around 5'2.5 and 103 Pounds (14 years old soon 15) 3. What year, make, & model of motorcycle are you coming from? And, what do you want the new bike to do better? A 2008 2 stroke Keeway Hurricane 50cc 4. What's your ballpark budget? 1500 USD (i have a helmet and the gear so only the bike) 5. What types of terrain will you be riding? Enduro riding (woods, near fields etc.) 6. Will you be racing or just play riding? Just for fun with my friends riding for fun. Thank you everyone who replies!
  7. I'm 14 and I'm 5'2 tall, What dirt bike would be a good start for me?
  8. I just got my first bike it’s a 2008 Honda 230crf the guy who sold it to me already had a street legal kit on it (lights, mirrors, speedometer) but all the electrical isn’t working Who/where would you recommend to learn how to fix that and what is the best online parts store
  9. Hi all, So I was able to teach my wife how to ride easy double track this year and she liked it quite a bit. I purchased her a KLX 140 as a learner bike and it worked out well. Now she wants something larger... She is 5 foot 7 @ 145lbs. Thinking 2021 KTM 125xc with the E starter. Its full sized and exceptionally llight. Alternative would be a Honda 230... but it is easily 50lbs heavier. Partially worried about 2 stroke power for a newer ridder with the KTM tho. Thoughts ?
  10. I recently bought a 2012 husky cr 125 and after 2 rides the shift lever stripped. I got the lever off today and noticed theres a notch in the middle of the shift shaft and the lever teeth are pretty stripped. The teeth on the shaft look pretty okay. Would a new shift lever fix the problem?
  11. Hi, I’m 19, 6ft 2 and 190lbs. I’m looking to buy an enduro bike but am confused on what is best to learn on? 4 stroke ? 2 stroke? And what brand etc would be best suited for me. I have a budget of around £3000-£3500. I’m not looking to do any mx track racing or jumps etc just simple trail riding with mates. Any feedback pointing me in right direction would be appreciated.
  12. Hi, here goes my first thread as well as my first post on here! Name is Matt. Been a reader for quite a while and have learned a ton from these forums. Anyways, i'm 24, and have liked motocross bikes since I was 6, my uncle was an mx rider here in the northeastern ohio and shoot mainly all over ohio (greg urban, 803, rode hondas say something if you know him lol) but ever since I was a young gun i was in love with bikes but never had one of my own, just a 90cc dinli 2 stroke quad my gramps got me in mansfield on the farm when i was about 12, lol! That thing and that farm are long gone, they didnt pay taxes and ended up gettin screwed for it, lost everything, all the toys, boats, quads, golf carts, had to sell it and move to somewhere much more affordable. My family isnt the smartest but theyre pretty cool. ANYWAYS. I am 24 now and just recently had the chance to grab a bike to work on, ive spent my live doing other things like skateboarding, going to school, working full time, moving in with a girl etc. So I just found a 1990 yz125 on offerup for 200 bucks. I was dead broke at the time paying court costs n whatnot but I pulled together 100 bucks and made a deal with the guy to pay him 50 a week for the rest, since I had practically nothing and had literally just started a new job. So he was down and we met up and I got the bike. (QUESTION: Can i post any sort of htm image codes so I can post these pics throughought the thread? Cause if so im gonna edit the heck out of this thread and make it way more organized.) I brought her home. The reason it was so cheap is because the crankshaft was seized. The piston is in good condition, the cyclinder as well, no scratching or chipping, leading me to believe the issue could be in the main crank bearing. The guy I bought it off of has been in close contact, i see him once a week or so and we talk bikes and about the parts i'll need and whatnot. So my next step is to grab my next paycheck, finish paying him and bring the engine back over, split it open with him, and see if its just the bearing or whole crank assembly. Either way, pretty stoked about the deal, and the piston and cylinder being in such great shape. Im gonna attatch the pics of the bike and the engine! The cylinder head is taken off as well as the pipe and kickstart but here she is. Any input is appreciated! This is my FIRST bike and if anyone has any pointers about working on 2 strokes this old, I would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks yall Also if anyone notices anything that I am not saying, please do say something! Or if there is anything super critical to check. I plan om getting a manual when I find one and literally checking every single thing that can be loosened and tightened on it. Matt
  13. I am considering buying an 07 xr650l. The only iffy part I feel about purchasing the bike is that every time it starts after sitting for 4 plus hours a cloud of black smokes shoots out from the exhaust. What could cause this? Should that stop me from buying the bike?
  14. Hi everybody! I'd like to start off by saying I have been researching buying a bike for a few months now, but I still have almost no clue what I'm talking about ;p. So like I said I've been in the market for a few months and Ive finally decided that its time to pull the trigger. I'd like to spend less than $1000 and buy something in between 80-125cc so that the whole family can ride. I'm 5'11'' and around 160lbs and I've been looking at a couple KX85's and CRF80's but I'm still not certain about what I really need. Going to be used as more of a fun haver, pit bike sort of thing. Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks guys! JD
  15. Hi Everyone, I know some of us have badass wives and bike size doesn't matter that much. My wife is working on it. Long story short, KTM 250 xc-f vs Honda 250f (the trail bike not the mx). This would be her first bike. I put her on a quad for 1 day and she wanted to try a dirtbike. Used my buddies crf 110 pit bike for a day and she wanted something larger/ faster after an hour. She is 28 and 5'7" 150lbs. She is a pretty good mountain biker. She is able to ride blues and easier blacks at bike parks and walk the big drops. Both wheels on the ground at all times however. I am all out of bikes to barrow and its time for her own rig. KTM 250 xc-f vs CRF250F. I know the bikes are way different. I could be naive, but my 2019 350 excf does not hit that hard, so I thought MAYBE I could buy once cry once with a KTM xc-f. Dont want to get her a street legal bike. On both bikes Id run: 1-Seat Concepts low seat 2-Rekluse clutch 3-1inch lowering kit from KTM factory for KTM KTM is lighter and better suspended . CRF250F is cheaper and designed to be easy to handle I'm sure. We would mostly ride double track jeep roads. Unless she suprises me and wants to try some mellow single track. Thoughts ? P.S She has not tried my 350. I have the stock clutch and I don't want her to be overwhelmed by stalling and hate riding dirt bikes.
