Hi guys recently did an transmission oil change on my bike after i finished it i started it up on the stand then put it into 1st after spinning for 5 second there was a bang and continued on spinning like nothing happened. i turned of the bike and put it in neutral and was Rowling it backwards and all the sudden the same bang sound happened again. after this i tried changing gear with the bike not running and i could only put it in first if i went from neutral straight to second then it would click down to first. the bike also rolls fine in neutral but when put into gear the clutch would not fully engaged and i would have to push harder then normal to get it to roll wen in gear. if anyone has any ideas what it could be please let me know.
  2. Does any body have any tips on how to make sure that may shifting assembly works before I put my yz85 engine back together? I would like to make sure it works before so that I don’t get the engine back together and find out that a I put something together wrong. I want to make sure that it goes through all the gears and into neutral how do it do this?
  3. My Lifan125 cc engine is brand new. I rode it around for a bit and noticed something weird. When I Shift into 3rd gear, it doesn’t shift. But when I shift into fourth it shifts ok. Also, when I downshift, the shifter gets stuck in the down position. It is also very hard to get into neutral and I get a false neutral trying to shift into 3rd. What could be the problem here?
  4. Hello everyone, I've been away from the forum for a bit, after I ran the DRZ into the ground and couldn't fix it until now. I've read through many posts about big bores, but most of them are aimed at max HP and things like that. I'm not looking to make 55HP, but my engine is done so it needs everything. I ran the bike on the highway for too long, didn't check levels properly, vaporised all the oil and ruined the engine. The big end is gone, the cilinder wall is worn, the cams and chains are worn and even the valves are having issues. I ran it for a while with all these problems, since I had not other transport. Gotta love a bike on a budget.... For the last few weeks I've been looking for big bore kits and info on them. I want to build a DRZ that does a bit better on the highway, has more power overall but want it underpowered and overbuilt. Towards 50HP would be nice, but not a requirement. My budget is decent, but not endless, which gives me a problem: there are soooooo many brands and styles around, I can't see the forest through the trees. The prices differ immensely, as does quality. On top of that there are setups that just run on race gas, which I can't over here, so I'm looking for a streetable setup. Since I live in the Netherlands, Europe, I have to ship everything over, and to save money in the long run I would rather spend a bit more initially and get it right, instead of getting three different kits. Its a 2005 SM with a stock engine, I will get: Big Bore cilinder (not set on cc's, but looking around the 470 range) Piston Stroker crank/rod (crank is most likely done) Cams (don't need super hectic lift and duration) ACT gears Carb (39 or 41) All the consumables and bearings Its fitted with a Leovinci 3X, have the 3x3 mod, valve and other smog stuff is removed. Not a brand fanboy specifically, I've looked at and could find out about them: MaxRPM, both IceCube and the Stealth, looks great but pricey. CilinderWorks, not sure what their quality is but they're cheap. Athena, mixed reviews and medium pricing. HotRods cranks, famous name but no idea on durability. HotCams & Web Cams, I don't have a preference, whichever gets me the best cam. And a bunch of brandless cilinders, packaged with branded items. Impossible to find out what the level of quality is. Who can help me out on deciding on this setup? More top speed, more power over the whole range, but rather have less power and more reliability than maximum RPM. I know the best solution is OEM, but since I'm building it, I might as well add to it.
  5. Hi my pit bike 140cc goes into 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear with ease but with 4th I’ve kind of got to force it into 4th ? Does eventually get into gear but with a bit of force !! Has anyone had this odium and is it an easy fix please ? any help would be greatly appreciated
  6. Hey guys. So I have just replaced my cam chain on my DRZ400 and now, after reassembly, I can't get the bike to shift into neutral, and maybe it doesn't even shift at all. I started the bike and from using the clutch it feels like im probably in third gear. I didn't do much testing because im afraid to do more damage when running the engine any longer. I think the gears above work, the shifter click sounds familiar when shifting up, but I can shift endlessly, even after shifting up 5 times. When trying to shift down, the clicking is a bit quiet and it feels like the shifter doesn't move far enough. The shifter itself has quit a bit of left to right movement, which is weird. But even more weird to me is that I didn't think that anything I touched during the cam chain change could cause problems with the transmission if I made a mistake. Maybe I did some damage while removing or torquing down the nut on the clutch basket. I don't have a special tool to hold the basket so I just blocked the rear wheel and therefore All the force went trough the transmission to the wheel. This is my first time working on the bikes engine and I don't have any knowledge about the topic, except for what I found on the Internet in the past few days. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  7. Hi, this is my first post on TT! I recently traded my PS4 for a 1998 KX250 with a "broken shift lever" the bike was unable to start due to it being freezing cold and stuck in gear. The reason the shift lever was broke was because the splines were completely worn. So right away, I bought a new shift lever. The old one was a bitch to get off as he had snapped the end of the bolt off to tighten the lever to the shift shaft. I ended up using a pickle fork to pry it off. Bit anyway. After putting on a nice, new shift lever, I was ready to get it running, only to unable to get it into neutral. Which wasn't really an issue. I figured I'd just bump start it. After several attempts, it didn't start, but I got it into neutral. After getting it into neutral, I couldn't get it back into gear. It just clicks about 7 times up or down and nothing happens. Now, I am able to get it in and out of gear, but only by clicking it randomly up and down so many times. I have no idea what gear it's going into, and it has no pattern. I already have the bike mostly tore apart. I plan on splitting the cases, I am just curious if someone can help me diagnose the issue, before I split the cases. Possibly worn shift forks?
  8. I have a 2005 WR450 with need of tlc in the gear dept. Does anyone know if any other year WR has the same shifter forks and indeed if any YZ shifter forks will work. I have seen some 06 YZ shifter forks, which look just like the 05 WR ones, except they have a different part no. and different numbers cast on them, The WR has 5BE4, and the same looking YZ has 5BE5. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Cheers
  9. Gday Just replaced clutch pressure plate, frictions plate, springs and bearing and for the first minute the bike ran and went through all the gears. Next minute the shifter still goes up but there is no clicks and is stuck in either nuetral or first? Whats the go here?
  10. Hey there dudes and dudettes, Got me a pw80 to mess around with and I'm having a problem with it. It idles fine, runs in first pretty decent but as soon as it's shifted into 2nd the acceleration drops. It feels like I have a one speed bike. Any ideas what it could be? I have already done the clutch mod, i'm running 6 ball bearings instead of the standard 12. Thanks!
  11. I’ve always used my clutch when shifting up and shifting down. I currently ride a crf250r 2016. From the videos I’ve watched, I’ve come to a conclusion that when shifting up use the clutch and when shifting down it’s ok to not use the clutch. Will this still wear down my transmission quicker? I’ve also heard that shifting up or down in the air is fine without the clutch because the gears should be freed up enough when your in the air. Would somebody be able to back this or share there opinion. Thanks👍🏽
  12. Hi, I've been slowly rebuilding a 1972 Honda xl250 over the last few months and I finally got it started and idling today. But I quickly ran into two problems I hope you can help me figure out. 1. The bike won't shift out of neutral. It feels/sounds like it shifts into 1st and 2nd, but nothing engages and the neutral light stays on. I've taken apart and cleaned just about everything inside the right crankcase and installed new clutch and throttle cables before I ever even started it. I have noticed the bike was clearly layed down on its left side (broken clutch lever, bent shift pedal), so maybe the external shifter mechanism is bent? Where should I start figuring out the shifting issue? 2. not as important, but I'm noticing an oil leak out of the engine fins on the left side. It seems to be originating from about the 3rd fin down. Any ideas where this is coming from? Thanks for the help.

  14. I recently purchased a 2016 Honda XR650l with 900 miles on the odometer. It appears totally stock and has no obvious damage. On the day I drove 150 miles to look at this bike there was 3 inches of snow on the ground with ice underneath, okay so I should have tried to test ride it in the snow. Snow is gone so I got the bike out for the first ride. I didn't notice the shift peddle had been bent and repaired. The case has small scratches where the shifter goes up and down. Every now and then under hard acceleration on the street the bike won't up shift from 3rd to 4th. It seems to work if I power shift, "no clutch" while other times I have to slow down getting off the throttle and then shift. The seller is no help as he lied about the bike being "Mint." I talked to him post sell and he told me he dropped the bike a couple of times due to the 38" seat hight. Any ideas on what is causing this? What to do to repair? I ride 75-100 miles of single track trails way back into the Colorado mountains and don't want to be walking back. Any help will be appreciated.
  15. Is it normal to have a lot of play or gear slap in the transmission. Here is a photo. When I decelerate you can feel it. Any idea what is wrong. This is a 2019 TE300I with 30 hours. No racing.

  17. Are you suppose to be able to go through the gears with the cases split? Got my 03 yz450 split and its really hard to turn the shift cam with my hand. I can get neutral, 1st, and 2nd but not the other two gears. All of the components are in great shape. No sign of wear

  19. I have a 1984 Xr250r and I am currently re-assembling the engine after installing a new crank. I am having trouble installing the kickstart correctly as the manual doesn’t do a very good job of explaining the process. If someone could explain how to correctly install it that would be great, thanks!
