  1. I have a 2021 CRF250F on reserve and one of my first mods will be to put a 1 1/8 Pro Taper bar on it. Seems like there are a lot more options from Pro Taper than there were when I ordered last. Has anyone put a big bar on their newer CRF250F and offer a recommendation? I ride in the woods, so I assume the woods curve is for me :-) but it looks like I can get it in the Evo or the Contour bar and now I'm confused. Wanting to make sure I also don't order a bar that won't fit because it curves before the clamps for example.
  2. I recently got into a little trouble on my 81 XR250R resulting in a bent pair of bars. I have never bought a pair of new bars and I am not sure what measurements I should go with. Does anybody have any aftermarket bar experience/recommendations for my bike? Thanks!
  3. In my search to setup my DRZ and XR as I wanted, I found endless topics on what gearing and handlebar setups are the best. Not only on the DRZ and XR forum, but all of them. There is really great advice but it always depends on what the other rider prefers, which is sometimes hard to gauge. While looking for my perfect setup, I found these websites, that helped me a lot. I am not affiliated with them or anything like that, they're tools I found that work really well. I haven't seen these linked on this forum yet, so I thought I would. The first is www.gearingcommander.com. It is a calculator for you gearing, obviously, but is has so many options and an enormous database of models. It lets you compare three setups, where you can change pretty much everything and gives info on top speed, rpm in gears at a certain speed, what -1 or +1 would mean for speed or rpm, but also the number of chain links needed, chain speed and number of chain contacts with the sprocket. For the DRZ you can even change the actual ratio for the gearbox, if you have an ACT box installed, to see what the effect is. The other is www.cycle-ergo.com. A calculator for riding position. After choosing a bike you can adjust handlebar, foot peg and seating position, seat height, and body posture. There's an option to view with a pillion, and to the enter your inseam and have the feet on the ground to see if you will reach. None of this info says anything about how it will feel to ride, but it lets you compare your current setup to what is suggested and get an idea of what to expect. The perfect setup is wholly subjective, so it can be hard to decide what advice to follow and this lets you see it with your own eyes. Saved me ordering a bunch of wrong parts. For the Japanese brands, if you're looking for high quality parts fiches, OEM parts numbers or OEM parts that are hard to find, www.cmsnl.com is a good spot to look. Again, not affiliated, just helped me out a lot. It is easy to find the part number for something you need, then look for that part number to what bikes have it. Sometimes the same part is much cheaper if ordered for a different model. They even stock the ball and spring that lock the passenger pegs on the DRZ-400S and SM to give you an idea of their selection. They consolidated all Japanese motorcycle parts dealers in the Netherlands, to make finding parts easy. They've been expanding into Europe ever since. The non-Japanese selection is growing, but isn't as big yet. Finally, a good reference is www.motorcyclespecs.co.za, which a database with all the basic factory specs for pretty much every bike ever made for every model year and variation, including a review on many models. I found it useful to see the differences between model years and variations, when ordering parts. Hope this helps someone with setup, riding comfort and parts!
  4. 14 drz400sm I recently changed my handle bars to the cr high bend and when I put the plate on over the handle bar I over tightened it and it broke. If I purchased the pro taper mount could I just keep my stock rubber mounts and just use the Top peace on the pro taper mount to hold the bars on would the holes match up?

  6. Just thought I'd write up this report from a trailride a couple weeks ago since it was a first for me. I was riding alone on a trail I know very well but haven't ridden in a year. It was California singletrack on a side of a canyon and the past winter was a wet one so the grass had grown pretty high. I was somewhere between second and third gearish and coming up to a left bend in the trail. I didn't have the best line and saw I was coming up on a rock about a foot tall hidden in the grass and braced for impact presumably to roll over top of it. Well, turned out the rock was 90 degree wall type and the a little too tall and so the back end of the bike pitched me off. When I came off it felt a little weird like it was too soft. The bike fell off the trail and down the slop about 4 feet with the front pointing downhill. After gathering myself up and trying to lift the bike, the right handlebar (throttle) had snapped off. My bars are twinwalls with the crossbar and just to the right of the right side bracket that holds the cross bar was where the bar cleanly snapped. Wow is it hard to maneuver a bike with half a handlebar, try it. At the time I wasn't sure but it turned out the be easier to roll the bike downhill another 10 feet to a flattish ledge, that looked like it had a more gentle angle back up to the trail by careful off camber sidehilling and some luck. What I learned meanwhile was the electric starter button wires were broken. I took the seat off to disconnect the battery because the wires kept touching and turning the starter while I was trying to fix and fumble with the bike. The only idea I had was to disassemble the crossbar and use the right side bracket to clamp the broken bar back together as a kind of bandaid. Fortunately I ride with tools and it was easy to use a 5 mm hex to get that done. The bar broke in such a was that there as no ragged edge or burrs and so the two broken ends fit back together snugly and the knuckle bracket slid over the top of them and then I tightened that down like all heck. This turned out to work like a charm. I had to use the kickstarter to get the bike started and then I was able to sidehill it up and back onto the trail as hoped. I rode back to the truck and those 14 miles were very gentle and easy but there were no more problems along the way. My bike is an '05 450X and the bars were probably what originally came on the bike so they were nearly 15 years old. And probably dropping the bike a thousand times the bars had gradually fatigued. If the bars were oversized protapers and they snapped, I think I would have had to walk out without the bike. I didn't take the time to photoshoot the incident but took one pic as a 'there is a god' and then a couple pics when I got back home of the breakage and the fix. I put another pair of twinwalls onto the bike just because I was able to do this with them!
  7. I've searched the forum but can't seem to find anything useful. I've been experimenting with fork heights and bar positions, etc. to get a better feel when cornering the bike, but something about the handlebars just doesn't feel right. I've been looking around at different styles but not sure which one to try. I'm 5' 10" and pretty much just a weekend warrior, riding trails and tracks. I think I read on one thread that people have like the RC bend on these bikes but it seems the bend is different from brand to brand and model to model. What have others had success with? Thanks.
  8. Hey guys, I bought a 2016 crf250r yesterday and I'm just trying to decide what I need to do to make the bike feel bigger. I'm 16, 6'2" 190 lbs and when I ride the bike within the proper riding stance (aka rider attack position) I feel VERY awkward. The stock handlebars feel way too low/set back, the foot pegs seem up too high, and the seat way too low. Almost everything on the bike is stock BTW. I'm thinking I need to start by stiffening the rear suspension (It mushes down a little much when I sit on it) and buying a high bend handlebar/risers? I'm sure others have been in this situation before, what would you all recommend? Just want to hear from someone else before I start buying parts. Thanks!
  9. Hey so I have a 2016 Husqvarna FC 250 with stock handlebars, which has the part number 2500200100030. They also say Pro Taper on them but that's all the info I have. I'm only 5' 3" tall, and no matter which way I angle the handlebars and controls, I don't feel comfortable. I was wondering if anyone knew EXACTLY which Pro Taper model these were so I can find the bend, and change it as needed. Thanks everyone

  11. So my Original handlebar got bent, Now i got one on the bike that i had laying around. But it bends a little bit with hand and squeeks when you do. so i dont trust this handlebar anymore. Now i read the twinwall was a great one, but it also comes with a big price tag. Now i have the money. But i read fat bars are also strong. So i dont know if anyone has experience with cheap fat bars? Are they good. Will they hold up after a fall?

  13. Hi all, Apologies in advance if this may seem like a ridiculous question but completely new to dirt biking so I don't want to jump to any conclusions without confirming first. Got into a pretty nasty fall last time I went riding and noticed the bike wasn't riding straight. My right arm would be straightened out but my left arm would be trailing behind not straightened out. Thought the front tire wasn't straight and it may be something to do with the forks. Loosened the triple clamps and axle pinch bolts and gave it a good couple pumps but problem was still there. Today I thought that it may be the bar (really didn't the bar could have bent that easily). Took a picture of it top-down view with the wheel pointing straight and right side of bar straight and this is what it looks like. Do my bars look bent? If so, can I straighten it out a little? If it's not the bar what should I do to try and working on correcting the feel of bike not going straight? Thanks, all.
  14. Hi everyone, So for my first mod, I would like to go with a new handlebar. But, I wonder if I don't make a mistake in the width. I purchase a Neken bar, 820 mm width, 110 mm height and 73° of sweep. Many website compare this bar to Renthal 999 MC GRATH or Pro Taper CARMICHAEL, cause Neken sizes from board to board, while Renthal or Pro Taper size from axle to axle (?! - information coming from french website). Well I'm thinking I was good, but when I go to my dealer to make a rendez-vous for the 1000 Km service, he told me it won't be possible to mount this bar, cause of the throttle, brake and ABS cable which were to small. So should I go with another handlebar, or rerouting the cable could do the job ? And yes, I have the Pro Taper universal clamp to fit the 1'' 1/8 Neken bar on the stock clamp. Thank you
