  1. Hello, TT community. I picked up a 2018 YZ250FX and love it. I've always run FMF exhaust systems on my bikes due to the weight saves and performance gains. I bought the full 4.1 RCT Titanium system for the bike, but so far I've only installed the can/silencer. Installing the can provided a nice boost in performance across the board. My question: I'm debating whether or not to install the 4.1 RCT head pipe sections. I heard from a reliable industry insider/rider that the FMF 4.1 RCT head pipes on the YZ250FX actually lowered the HP on a dyno test that they performed. Upon further investigation on the FMF website it looks like this exhaust system is spec'd to be used on both the 250F and the 250FX. And according to FMF's website this same system is used on a variety of years too, like from 2014 to current! This seems rather odd. The FX motor and the F are similar, but actually much different and one would think that the head pipes would be designed differently depending on the characteristics/design of the motor. I read somewhere that Yamaha had spent a lot of time developing the head pipe for the FX. Of course, the stock cans/silencers are always plugged up to meet all of the import requirements, so changing the can out is a no brainer, but I'm questioning the head pipes. In looking at the stock head pipe compared to the FMF head pipes, the stock pipes appear to be larger in diameter. So, I'm wondering if anyone else has had any experience with the FMF 4.1 RCT exhaust systems on their YZ250FX, and more specifically, the head pipes and one's thoughts on the performance of the head pipes. Any first hand experience/knowledge would be appreciated. Thank you,
  2. I know this topic has been discussed in the past, but I have not found any options available for the new 2018 bikes. I live and work for a new Beta Dealer (Auburn Extreme Powersports) in California, and we are having a difficult time mapping the RR-S bikes for full FMF exhausts. We have tried contacting Beta Support several times for this issue to no avail, and we typically are given the runaround when transferring to techs and secretaries. From what we can gather, the FMF flash is designed for the RR bikes, but not the street-legal counterparts. Every time we try to install the FMF map onto an RR-S errors occur, and the programmer screen goes virtually blank. We have heard through the grapevine that some are using the RR maps on the RR-S with success, but we have yet to try it, even on our own bikes for fear that it will permanently erase or damage the CDI. Any and all help or suggestions regarding this topic would surely be appreciated! Thanks, Ben.
  3. Hi Guys I was on XR's Only website last night, and see that they have updated the looks of the muffler for their exhaust system. Looks much better than the old one. http://www.xrsonly.com/xrs-only-exhaust-pipe-honda-xr400r-stainless-steel-cone-tip http://www.xrsonly.com/xrs-only-exhaust-header-honda-xr400r So I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with their full system? It will be for a 440 setup. They say the header is larger, but also say the muffler can connect to stock headers?? Sooooo, Power?....Quality?...Noisy or not? Thanks 🙂
  4. I am a bit concerned about the gasket connecting the header to the muffler after just putting on a new FMF powerbomb. Is this gasket in far enough or does it need to be pushed back further into the muffler? If you have a YZ250F take a look at yours and let me know! Any help appreciated.
  5. FIRST POST! I have a bone stock 2015 CFR250L (Smallest bike I've ever owned, actually) No airbox mod or anything like that yet.....struggling to keep up with crazy traffic! I need more power out of it. Where is my money best spent? I'd love if the fuel mileage improved too, as I struggle to get over 55mpg. (I'm 6'1", 225lbs with my backpack) Assume I only get one thing, I'm on a budget for now. Should I just get just the EJK tuner? Just the powercore muffler? Just a header and keep stock muffler? Stop being cheap and get the whole exhaust? What gets me the most $$$-to-Horsepower conversion rate here?
  6. Bought a 2016 Suzuki DR-Z400SM back in September, put two hundred miles on it or so and then bought a full Yoshimura RS2 system for it. Worked well for about 1,000 miles and then I noticed i have an exhaust leak where the header meets the engine. The local shop says the gasket has gone bad. I looked at the gasket compared to the stock one the other night and noticed the Yoshi gasket is just flat while the stock one has a ridge around the pipe. Anyway, I need to replace the gasket, and I was hoping to just take the stock one off the old exhaust and then put it on the new one, but they dont just slide off. So, how does one change a gasket? Thanks.

  8. First off, just wanted to say that I've searched for my particular issue beforehand. Didn't see anything posted quite like it. So here I am. 2013 DRZ-400S/SM Conversion. Not sure whats going on. Recently moved to Michigan from Cali in November 2019. Bike ran perfect before the move. Its only got 3700 miles on it. Oil was changed after installing a Q4/Powerbomb, FCR39, and installing stage 2 cams. Although I did switch one of the cams back to stock. Can't remember which though (pretty sure it was the intake). I know I'm supposed to change the oil again after 500 miles with the new cam/s but I had only put on around 375 miles before it starting smoking in the front. I also had the headers wrapped for some ungodly reason (not gunna lie I actually really digged the look). Replaced coolant/oil when I put in the cams. Coolant is still topped up. Just drained oil, doesnt really look/smell like any coolant is in it. Tried smelling the coolant but since ive got oil all over me I cant really tell. Reservoir is clean, no oil. Anyways yea, IDK. White smoke coming from header u-bend area, possibly where it connects to engine not entirely sure. All the headgasket posts I've read, its coming out of the exhaust. No white smoke coming out of my pipe. Bike has no issues starting, not overheating. I bought a headgasket kit from cometic anyways (do they always come with a head/base gasket?), but I just want to hear you're guys thoughts before I tear my head off. Both of them haha. Thanks for reading this post and extending a bit of your expertise. Im a noob, but Im trying to learn.
  9. So I have bought a new FMF Gnarly for my 99 yz250 and it arrived today. Upon inspection I can see plenty of rust on the inside of it, and rubbing my finger on the inside removes small black (assuming metal) fragments. Bit worried to throw it on as sucking rust etc. into my cylinder does not excite me. Should i contact the supplier (don't want to wait/pay more though), clean it myself or put it on and hope it will blow out the crap before it sucks it in ?
  10. First post. Forgive me if it is in the wrong forum. I've just purchased Yoshimura's RS2 for my DRZ400S. In reading all the information posted for it, I've come across a few comments talking about rubbing stainless steel headers with alcohol to affect the discoloration. Specifically, I've read recommendations to soak the headers in vodka to have them turn an even "golden brown". Has anyone tried this?
  11. So I went to start up my bike, and after a bit there was black oil dripping from where the header meets the cylinder. The seals are brand new. I figure it’s because the header is mounted a bit strange since it’s an engine swap. But just to be sure, do you guys think somethings wrong? Maybe i’m running too rich? P.S if you guys need a video of the bike running to see the exhaust smoke let me know.

My customer purchased a 2013 WR250R with all the mods (header, muffler, airbox, FMF controller) and brought it to me complaining about lazy acceleration and misfires while blipping the throttle. I verified the complaints and experimented with many adjustments to the FMF controller. I wasn't able to produce meaningful results during my adjustments. In a stroke of dumb luck, I noted that the misfire while blipping the throttle only occured while in gear, i.e., with the neutral light OFF. I jumpered the neutral switch to ground and rode the bike - Wow! It was like a different bike. It pulled hard in the mid range and no misfire occurred while blipping the throttle downshifting. My experience is limited to Ducati race engines and I don't know how the neutral switch interacts with the fuel map. Does any of the experts know the answer?? I'd appreciate any feedback or confirmation of the issue from others. I have the same engine performance problem as YZach:

  15. Hey all, Just installed my yoshimura rs2 full system and have been having alot of backfire on deceleration and engine breaking. The bike has a 3*3 mod and jd jetting. The kit says to use the 165 vs the 155 if you have full exhaust. Could the issue be having the 155 installed and not the 165? Or could it be a header leak. It looks like the flange on one side is just barely not flush but it will not tighten anymore than it already is. If you think it is a header leak what is an easy way to test that? Im thinking its the jetting, but thats just my amateur opinion. Any thougts?
  16. I’m trying to sell an FMF Muffler and header but there’s no info or serial numbers. It did come off a 2006 CRF250R which means it should fit the 2006-2009 crf250r models. I need to know if Honda changed the outside header diameter where it goes into the engine block on newer models or not? I measured the OD at 44mm or 1 11/16 inches on the header. Any info at all would be much appreciated thanks.
  17. I'd like to step up to the Powerbomb header on my XR/L but have ruined/burned holes in a few pairs of riding pants on the Powerbomb on my last bike (KLX250S). I am pleased with the Q4 on the XR/L and believe there might be a little more to be had with the FMF header, so I'd love to hear and see pics if possible of what kind of shielding you all have used or created for the Powerbomb on this bike.   18. I bought this bike in January and have been going though some maintenance and upgrades. When I took the exhaust off to repack the muffler I noticed that the header only goes into the slip joint connection by the kick lever about 1/2". You can see in the picture that at some point this header was engaged at least another 1". The pipe does not appear to be bent and the silencer bolts line up perfect with the frame. The header was also hitting on the back corner of the cylinder and at the lower radiator hose clamp. But I was able to adjust to barely clear them now. It's definitely a Yamaha factory header with the heat shield tabs cut off. Thinking the previous owner swapped a header from a different year... any thoughts?
  19. I ordered the power bomb header for my 2020 drz... trying to figure out what muff to grab for it. Would I have to do some modifications if I grab a different brand than FMF?
  20. I have a 2005 CRF450R, It cuts out when you get on the throttle when taking off from a dead stop it cuts out near the bottom end. After some research one of the suggestions was to check for an exhaust leak. I replaced the gasket between the head pipe and the silencer and still no fix. Then I noticed there is about a 1" crack right at the 1st bend coming out of the barrel. I don't want to spend the $500 on aftermarket exhaust so am trying to find someone to weld it. Nobody around here welds titanium. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I have found some full aftermarket exhaust for 270 for a 450X would this work on a 450Rif i re-jet? I have seen that in the 2005 the exhaust is interchangeable between X and R, Could I use a factory 450X head pipe with the 450R silencer? Thanks folks.
  21. Hello all, been here a long time ago when I had my 2003 xr650r. I had to sell that one a few years back and I have aquired a 2002 xr650r. My 2003 had a powerbomb header and fmf pipe. I am going to purchase a header and pipe for this 2002 but want to know your opinions about if I should go with FMF for the header and pipe? Any other suggestions? Best combo for uncorking? I plan to uncork it ASAP. So I will need a jet kit or maybe I can get away with spending less on a kit if someone knows the exact size jets I would need for full uncork and 6000' elevation? Also need a rear rack. I had a Baja designs rack before and I really liked it. Any others worth mentioning to me? Need buddy pegs. I ordered some before but dont remember brand or where I got them. They did the job and tucked up pretty nice. Anything there? I've seen some 650r's with the side panel that covers the air cleaner having holes in them. Are these homemade or does someplace sell them? My 2003 was never uncorked so what should I be expecting when doing that? I appreciate any and ALL info you guys can provide. Links welcome. I am in the USA Southwest NM. Thanks all. and GO BRP!!!
