  1. Hey guys/girls, I'm looking at buying a new KTM and don't want to spend the money without riding one first. I'm on the fence between the 250 and 300xc models. I race c class in local hare scrambles and will be racing my first GNCC (Camp Coker) in a few weeks (I'm pretty slow btw). I love casual trail riding as well. My current bike is an 09 200xc. My riding buddy has a 2020 300 husky and It is an absolute dream to ride, but at 170lbs wet I'm not sure I wouldn't be just as happy with a 250 and have less felt weight in the single tracks. I'm always looking for new people to ride with and would enjoy meeting up with someone at a local compound. We have a pretty awesome private 6mile loop in Sumter, SC also. Its tough to spend 10k on something without giving it a test ride... Hit me up if anyone's interested, KTM or not!!
  2. So I just bought on '03 crf230f and I am absolutely loving the bike, but I have have been having an issue with it recently. Sometimes when I go to shift into second gear if will shift into neutral instead and then I will have to shift a second time for it to go into second. It doesn't do it a lot, but when it does it's really annoying. The bike shifts okay through the other gears, but they could be better. Is there an issue with the shifting star or something?
  3. Today I want to shift gears, open the floor for discussion, and talk about the state of dirt biking as it relates to the bikes we buy, ride, and maintain. In my relatively short existence, a number of things have happened in the industry which has been interesting to see. A few examples, which are not by any means exhaustive of all that has gone on, include the emergence of the four-stroke power plant, electronic fuel injection, improved tire technology, electric bikes, and the development of air forks. On a more micro-level we’ve seen improvements to materials, new manufacturing processes, and coating processes which have allowed ever increasing performance. As a fellow rider and someone who has no bias or stake when it comes to manufacturers and product offerings, I’d like to hear your thoughts as they relate to today’s machines. My question to you is a simple one, are your needs as a consumer being met by today’s manufacturers and bikes? What aspects of today’s machines do you love and what are pain points for you? If you could do things your way, what would you change? Are there machine variants that aren’t being offered? Leave a comment below that addresses these questions or share your historical perspective! I look forward to your responses. Thanks and have a great week! - Paul https://www.diymotofix.com/
  4. Peter Weiss is a name in the Hard Enduro world that you have most likely heard of. This is the guy that gets contracted by race organizations to build hard enduro race tracks. Look him up sometime...He has a long list of great race courses under his belt. In addition he does enduro schools and exhibitions that usually accompany his travels to various parts of the world. While Peter was in Peru laying out the route for the El Inka Hard Enduro, he wanted to come out to Cusco and do some tourism stuff as well as pack a couple of good days of riding into his schedule. It was ON! This is what its like to ride the Andes with a pro! I don't always have the chance to ride with pro level riders like Peter. What I like about it most is that I get a chance to stretch my ability by trying new things. I can't take big risks when riding solo, which is what I do most of the time. So Peter shows up and my buddy Alex and I decide to show him some of what the Andes are all about. Big mountains that stretch up to the 16,000 ft mark just behind my house. He was stoked to give it a go. We rode for two days, covered a bunch of types of terrain, and returned home with huge smiles on our faces. I will let the video do the talking. This guy likes the routes tight and crazy...He got what he wanted! Keep your eyes out for Peter Weiss. He puts down some killer GPS tracks for a number of races in South America and other parts of the world. Check out The El Inka Hard Enduro(ZICK is the race organization) in Peru which takes place around the beginning of December. Peter's route this past race left only a small handful to reach the finish line... Mario Roman took home the prize. I always look forward to riding with Peter. If you get a chance to take part in an enduro school of his, you won't be disappointed. Enjoy the video and make sure to follow this blog so you can stay tuned to what's happening in the enduro world of Peru... Wheels down, Scottiedawg Scott Englund of MotoMission Peru is a social entrepreneur who puts together hard enduro tours in the Andes of Peru. Feel free to contact Scott via this blog, or catch up with him on Facebook at MotoMission Peru. Also, you can see all of his tour videos and more on the official MotoMission Peru Dirtbike Adventures channel on Youtube.

  7. Well I broke a head stud, so I’m putting in new ones, very confused on how to remove and install them, mostly the install, thanks
  8. Hey guys! I’ve been having an issue with my 2005 cr125 lately, mid rpms are very weak, but at high rpms the bike rips. Here’s the story. I bought the bike in October last year, and the bike had a stutter in 1st and 2nd gear and would breakup above half throttle, but it didn’t bother me so I rode it for the rest of the season. Earlier this year I decided to try to chase down the issue. First thing I did was replace the reeds, nothing happened. At the time I had been looking into a lectron carb, so I threw on my friends lectron carb that was on a kx125 to see how it would run. It fixed the odd sputtering, so I decided to buy one myself. Here’s where this new problem started, I put on the new carb, bike starts right up and runs great. Upon first ride, I encountered the problem where my mid range was weak. I richened the carb quite a bit on the metering rod and power jet, and nothing changed. When I threw on my friends carb, I wasn’t paying attention to the rest of the rpm range. So the problem could’ve occurred then as well, but I couldn’t remember. Previous owner used a lectron on it before he sold it with the stock mikuni. What else should I check? This week I’ll put my friends on again and really pay attention to the whole rpm range. -new reeds, clean air filter, and 30hrs on top end (I don’t ride hard) video will be attatched. it may sound like a slipping clutch but you can feel the power increase dramatically from mid to top. https://youtube.com/shorts/A_16P0LayCg?feature=share Thanks.
  9. I have a mint condition 2000 cr80rb and I was wondering how much it would be worth
  10. I'm quite new to the moto scene and I've got a '09 CRF250R in need of what I believe is a top end rebuild. I've never gotten a rebuild before so I'm unfamiliar with the process and the steps to take in getting this done in a safe and efficient manner. I was wondering if anyone knew of any reputable shops in or near Vancouver, Canada (where I live) that could look at my bike and help me out with my situation. About 6 months ago I got an inspection on the bike and the shop told me that my cam bearings had "spun in their journals", requiring the installation of a new cam along with the rebuild. I haven't had anything done to the bike since the inspection so the motor is still in this state. She's running but I'm afraid that the motor is a ticking time bomb and would like a shop to take a look at it, let me know what needs to be replaced and get the rebuild done without me worrying about getting taken advantage of. I'm currently out of the country in school but have plans to get this done once I'm back. Any tips, recommendations, or help would be greatly appreciated!
  11. Was wondering if anyone knows of a diagram that shows the thickness and inner diameter size for each washer. I think I have it right but I want to be sure. And does it matter what direction the washers face? I'd imagine it does being that each thrust washer has a smooth edge and a sharper edge. I face the smooth edge of the thrust washers outwards if you know what I mean because if they are the other way around it wouldn't seem right. If anyone that has experience with this stuff can chime in that would be awesome
  12. K so I am getting so frustrated with this bike? the problem is when I looked down at my piston with a camera there was absolutely no carbon buildup on the piston and it still looks new. What could cause this? The bike is a 2001 cr80r. (Thanks)
  13. Bought myself a 2005 cr125r in good condition to switch up to 125 class from 85. Anyway I've got the bike jetted nicely it idles runs perfect brand new top end but now I've decided i wanna make some more horses. I don't have complaints on the power but i feel like the powerband kicks in a little too smoothly. currently on the bike is Vforce 3 reeds and cage, stock pipe, stock carb, R304 shorty. I hear the long style DEP silencers and FMF SST pipe are a great combo for top end power but i want some feedback before i buy anything. i was also considering some carbontech reeds either the 106mt/106ht but im not sure if they will fit in the Vforce 3 cage. If anybody's used these let me know how they are. im trying not to send off the engine but i hear raising exhaust ports and milling off the base works wonders but im also not trying to spend more than 5$ a gallon on gas lol. im open to any ideas thoughts whatever just let me know what you guys think is best for some 2/3 and up power!
  14. I’ve broken my chain guide tabs 3 times now and are far beyond repairable. Bought a used on on eBay for $100 and decided to make it bulletproof. made with 6061 and welded with 5356 filler. Bamm.
  15. I just bought a 2008 WR250FX a while back and am getting it street legalized soon. I would really like to paint my rims either black (to go with my blue spoke covers) or blue. I would like to do this at home as I do not have enough money for aftermarket rims. I have looked into powdercoating, anodizing, and dual/single stage automotive paint so far. (Powdercoating looks like it might chip during tire change and there is not a local spot for anodizing and it looks expensive) Does anyone have any suggested methods or ideas for painting them at home? Do not tell me spray paint! Also please do not talk me out of it because I'm hard set on NOT buying new rims! Also we have a very capable, controlled, and large work space so any challenges shouldn't be an issue. Give me your thoughts please! Kind of stuck!
  16. Hi I’m new to dirt bikes so I’m probably about to say some cringy shit to more advanced mechanics, but I recently bought my first bike(04 cr125) and after one ride the clutch won’t disengage when I’m gear while holding in the clutch lever. The bike worked with no problems (except low compression) my first time riding it, but while it was sitting in the garage for a week I noticed the problem before I was going to take it out on another ride. I checked the basket and there were no deep groves but I filed it down a little anyway and I also replaced the plates+springs. I torqued everything back down to spec and the problem is still there. I’m pretty sure that just leaves the clutch cable but still I really don’t understand what’s happening. The cable seems to be in good condition with average resistance and no frays. Please help! ?
  17. Hey there! Looking for new people to ride with in Johnson Valley/Barstow area. Trying to learn new technical skills, push myself, and stay dedicated. I'm a beginner/intermediate rider, pretty new to the sport looking for cool people to ride with. Just a heads up I'm a 19 y/o girl.
  18. I recently picked up a 2004 cr85 with a fresh top end, v force reed petals, new crankshaft, and full gasket kit. I just installed a new air filter aswell. The bike seems to be in good running condition except for the fact that when it idles it will idle very high, but rarely it will idle normally by itself but usually i will have to let out the clutch slowly untill it almost dies then pull it back in quick then it will idle fine untill i hit the throttle again. Anybody know what the issue is??? Thanks
  19. Hey! so the throttle on my xr100 is sticking. like won't return. i was replacing back wheel bearings and had the bike up on a stand with the wheel off. i was trying to get the master link off the chain in accidentally hit the swingarm, pushing the bike off the stand and it fell on its left side on the garage floor. There was no visible damage suprisingly and nothing was damaged except the throttle. when the bars hit the ground it jammed the throttle tube into the entire mechanism. i know the issue is not with the carb because it will not spring back even in the free play. i took it apart and lubed the assembly and that helped a bit for only for a tiny bit. i was thinking just place the whole thing but thats like $30. any suggestions on where to get a new throttle tube for real cheap? or some other fix? Thanks!
  20. I have been riding dirt bikes for a little less than a year and I always ride trails and enduro. I have a crf250x right now and want to get a two stroke to go with it, should I get a Ktm 250 mxc? Or should i go with a yz 250 or cr 250? I've heard good and bad things about all of these bikes, and I need some help making a decision. I am going to look at this bike soon: https://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/mcy/d/2000-ktm-250-mxc/6552466361.html. I don't know if it is a good deal or not. Please help.
  21. Here is my XR100R build from a barely running and slightly crusty parts getter to a fully capable woods machine. I have a ATC200X carb with drilled out exhaust and intake, custom made lift links (I have posted about these before), Battery powered LED headlight for night riding. I am really happy with the way this bike turned out and I wanted to share it with you all. Let me know what you think. I have a picture of it sitting next to my YZ250F and my XR600R so you can see how it sits higher than a normal XR100. I will be taking it out riding the next couple weekends to torture test the lifting link and will take pictures and post more updates of how it goes. Thanks for all of you who have continued to show interest and support to this project, you guys made me fall in love with this little bike and its probably my favorite of my three now and has sparked more ideas for other modifications and even put some visions of creating a business making these components into my head. [I have also received requests for people wanting to purchase the lifting link, I am working on making a large batch of them and will keep everyone interested updated]
  22. Hey, I have a question. But first let me tell you that I am new to dirt biking, so I don't know anything. I purchased a 2001 YZ 125 in October and the seller said that he just changed the Piston and Clutch. I took it out in Gorman (OHV Riding Area) and like I said I am new, so I kept stalling the bike because I was learning and just let go of the clutch. But then when my dad got on, he said it is my fault for just letting go of the clutch lever, but also the clutch plates are a little bad. I can start the bike, let the clutch out 90%, and ride. Like shouldn't it start to move when I am half way of letting go of the clutch lever? I've seen videos of people holding their clutch lever half way and are moving 10-15mph. I can ride it perfectly fine now... But just wondering, what's wrong with it?
  23. TheVolta

    2018 CRF450X

New bike is confirmed, your welcome.
  24. Ok so I have a 1985 XR600R that I have been working on the last few weeks. I took it out riding last weekend (it was pretty cold but I adjusted fuel mixture accordingly beforehand). Full disclosure I have not had this bike long and I do not really know much of it yet. The issue it is having is once it has warmed up it does not want to stay running. I have not checked spark once warm yet but that does not seem to be the problem because it still backfires when kicking. Starting when cold is very easy and the auto compression system seems very well set up. I suspected the valves may be too tight and become tighter once it has warmed up. I plan to check valve clearances this week to cross that out. I do have a fully functioning but uglier parts bike that I can pull electrical components from to see if that is the issue as well. Any insight on this issue would be greatly appreciated. You guys have helped me a lot in the past and I hope you can help me again with this bike!
