  1. Hey guys, while taking apart my clutch I noticed that my clutch hub was severely grooved. So, I bought a new one. When I was putting it on the first time, instead of torquing down the nut properly I used an impact gun to tighten it (it still spun fine). I then took it back off to put on new friction plates. Now, when I put the hub on, and tighten it just a little bit (even by hand), the clutch hub spins very very stiffly (almost not at all). The bike is in neutral and all the friction plates and the pressure plate is removed. And when I put the old hub back on, the same thing happens. I know I probably messed up something. I've had it off and on a million times before this without issue. Do you think replacing the basket would remedy this problem, or is the problem somewhere else? I don't want to just tighten it until it can still spin then bend the tabs on the lock washer, because then the nut would barely be on. Like I said earlier, even finger tight it starts to lock up. Has anyone else had this problem?
  2. I recently tore my 2006 kx250f down to replace a broken case. Its all back together and everything works properly except the clutch. Its a full Hinson clutch basket, hub, plates etc. Plates are in great shape, basket has no notches nor does the hub. When I pull the clutch lever in the Pressure plate lifts but it takes the basket with it. Then when you let go it gets stuck like that and you have to push the whole assembly down by hand. Then pull the lever and it does it all over again. I noticed the plates were a little hard to pull apart but i think that's just from the oil. I have no clue whats going on. Everything seems to be put together right but i can't figure it out. Any help would be much appreciated.
  3. I've got a 2012 Beta 400RR Enduro and I'm curious if anyone has put a cush drive hub on one or can at least tell me what I need to know. I tend to ride the bike on street to the trail and I've been kicking around this idea to make it a bit more road capable. I've heard that hard-mounted sprockets wear worse when riding on hard surfaces and it can also send more vibration through the trans and wear the gears faster or worse. Does anyone know of a cush hub or whole wheel that would easily transfer to the Beta or any other solution similar to this idea?
  4. Here's a gnarly question for y'all: I drag race a 2001 Kawasaki KX500 2 stroke. Currently looking for some more top speed. With 16/38 gearing it tops out just under 100MPH, and currently need it geared well into the 120s as I am letting off and shutting the bike off around 1000 feet. Here's my issue: I talked to a few custom sprocket shops and the smallest sprocket they said I could fit on my bike was a 36t sprocket, and that wasn't even guaranteed. They claimed that they wouldn't recommend me paying for anything under 37 because they couldn't guarantee that it would work. Now, there is a solution, albiet an expensive one. Something called a "Quick Change Barnes Style Hub". Basically a hub with a tiny outer flange that would let me run sprockets into the low 20s. Issue with this is, the hub alone is over 600 dollars. Tie in a wheel, lace kit, and bearings and I am looking at over 1,000 bucks JUST in my rear wheel. Keeping in mind I am only about 750 bucks in this ENTIRE bike, does anybody know of a solution that would let me run somewhere around a 32t sprocket? Is there a Kawasaki hub with a smaller I.D that I could run and lace onto my existing rim? Or am I screwed with buying this expensive flat track hub that will let me finally get this bike into the 10s? ANY help is appreciated!
  5. Very disappointed!!! I just installed the major backordered Tusk rear (red) 2016 Honda CRF450R hub. Dropped the bike down off stand and went to push it up onto my trailer to go ripping and hear the dreaded click... click... snap... click.. bind... click.... pinch.... click! WTF??? Yep, as it turns out the Tusk hub I received (exact part# 1437260008 that is supposed to fit years 2013-2017) is 1/8" to 5/32" wider than the original stock hub! I uploaded a rather OCD video because I'm trying to prove without a doubt to the vendor that I'm not a moron (well, at least to prove I am right on this issue, the moron part is still debatable... but I digress). Hub is off on sprocket side misaligning the sprockets and causing the chain to bind then release. The brake side seemed ok it wasn't dragging that I could tell, but I didn't dare ride it. I was super focused on the chain/sprocket problem. So, boys, be careful, I ordered another while waiting for this to be resolved, hopefully it fits, but I have my doubts. I had NO ISSUES at all with the front hub, but the rear hub that has been backordered since April 14th that just became restocked slipped through QA by a gross 1/8" error. The video isn't perfect, has focus issues and audio cutout once, so it's not courtroom evidence worthy LOL, but I hope proves my point. I measured this thing six ways from Sunday. Next thing is to delace it and compare side by side, but heading out camping early in the morning so it'll have to wait. Anyone else experience this? I haven't seen any other mention of it, but like I said, this is brand new right off the press, paint still drying, so I may have one of the first ones. Fortunately the vendor is working with me, so I believe a resolution will come, but this ruins my July 4th riding excursions!
  6. '06 CRF450r here. I have a rear Talon hub with excel rim. Bought the bike about 18 months ago and since day 1 have noticed a very slight side to side play in the rear wheel. If i grab the highest point and lowest point of the wheel with bike on stand and shake the wheel back and forth I get about a millimeter of play. I've had wheel bearings replaced twice, by two different mechanics. Spokes are tight. Everything seems like it is the way it's supposed to be but no matter what, the play still exists. It has never gotten better, never gotten worse. I've owned several bikes in my life and have NEVER experienced wheel play before; then again I've always ran OEM hubs only. Ideas/thoughts?
  7. Just rebuilt a 400ex and found out, once I took the outer clutch basket off, that the springs on the backside of it are loose and can move freely inside the hub assembly itself. This, to the best of my knowledge, isn't normal but what might this cause in regard to clutch issues? Is it still useable or should I find a replacement? These are the little springs I am talking about.
  8. Bought this bike used a few months ago and it was dark out so i didnt notice this crack in the rear hub. Its on the sprocket side. Ive been riding on it for for months like this and the crack hasnt widened or spread at all. Not sure what to do. Wheels are VERY expensive for this bike.
