  1. Please help! I recently bought a Yz250f and have not been able to start it, it Has spark, but there are many issues with the carby which I wanna rule out before I leap into a rebuild, ( I want to avoid a rebuild if possible as I’m low on cash). The carby at the moment is a complete mess so the usual steps to fixing it might not work. So here’s the deal with the carb: - It’s leaking fuel from overflow ( really fast! ) and when I mean really fast, I mean it emptied my fuel tank in 2 mins. - It has a slow leak coming from somewhere under the float bowl - the air fuel screw is not adjusted correctly - I don’t know if the electrics work on it either - I don’t even know if it’s shooting fuel into the cylinder or not, as after kicking it a couple times and it’s not starting I remove the spark plug and it’s still dry. ( I tried putting fuel directly into cylinder from the spark plug hole but the bike still wouldn’t start) okay so I know it’s a lot but I’m not expecting anyone to answer every single question themselves. If each person could tackle whatever problem they know it would help heaps. Also just want to know what Order to fix things in as I can’t do air fuel until the bike is running and it won’t run unless I stop the leaking and get it to spray fuel into the cylinder. And buying a new carby is not an option ( I’ve got $40 to my name atm). Please help guys thanks.
  2. I am trying to figure out two things regarding the air intake on my son's 2018 TTR110... 1. How can I protect the air box intake during washing? Looking at the schematic, it appears there is an air intake (part #11) that brings the air in from under the fuel tank. Any suggestions for how to get that intake covered during washing without any disassembly? 2. Regarding the two one-way outflow valves (#14 and #17), I presume I should be able to pinch those open without great effort? I've squeezed them and they seem pretty firmly closed, which leads me to wonder if anything can flow out of them. ...thanks for any suggestions!
  3. Trying to figure out where my carb issue lies. '05 250x, new to me. have cleaned tank and carb. fixed stuck hot start and has been running really well. good start, idle and solid through most of the throttle range. have a spot at sustained throttle, about 35 mph uphill on the road in 3rd or 4th. On trail as well. about 1/4 -1/3 throttle. Engine sputters. It picks up great if I get on the throttle or back off. My gut says I have a jetting issue. Bike has stock exhaust, top of air box is removed, screen removed from air filter. Jets aren't marked so I don't know if they are stock or the usual recommended upgrades I have been reading on all the carb posts. live/ride at about 6000'. Thanks in advance.
  4. Team TT: I’m refurbishing my 1984 XL350R. In the process of taking the carbs off, this insulator carb crumbled in my hands. I can’t find a replacement on eBay, bike bandit & the usual suspects. Two questions... Does anyone know of a work-around? Also, I see a lot of insulator carbs for XR/XL250’s. Anyone know if these will fit? I grabbed a photo from the internet to show the part. Any help would be appreciated.
  5. Hey all - hoping you can help me with this. I've got a 1974 f7 175 and I'm having issues getting it to run properly. Cleaned the carb out twice at this point, new choke plunger and carb cover gasket. I finally got the thing to idle without any choke after it warms up, but now the thing lags on the throttle. When I rev it up it stays up for awhile after I let the throttle return Is this an air intake leak? Any idea where I would look? I've heard about the crankcase seal and haven't checked it yet.   6. I have a 02Cr250. Looking to put new reeds valves in it over the winter. The bike is stock other than a FMF gnarly pipe. I ride more GNCC style. What’s the thoughts on Vforce 3 or Boyesen RAD intake. I was leaning towards VF3 but heard some negatives about air leaks. I have a Boyesen on a YZ144 and have no complaints. I do think the Gnarly signs off quick so I have given some thought to a PC pipe. Thoughts.
  7. I just finished rebuilding the top end on my 2001 wr250f. The bike has an Athena 290 big bore cylinder and piston. I never checked the valve clearance before the rebuild. After rebuilding, I checked the valve clearances. All three intake valves have zero clearance. I cannot get my .03mm gauge to slide in. The exhaust valves are only slightly on the tight side with .015mm each. I double checked and made sure I wasn't on the exhaust stroke. I have zero clearance on all valves on the exhaust stroke. I even tried turned the flywheel back and forth from TDC and measuring to see if my timing was off, causing the zero clearance. These test also had zero clearance on the intake valves. Have all three of my intake valves worn down to the point where there is no clearance? When I had the head off, the bottom of the valves looked decent. Slightly blackened, with a small amount of carbon, but I didnt notice any major wear, chips or cracks. Anyone got any idea what's going on here? Thanks in advance for your guys' wisdom.
  8. Hi all, I have a 2005 crf250r that has a pretty bad bog whenever you whack the throttle. If you roll on the gas you cant even tell. The motor has about 7 hours on the full rebuild. Jets are 48 pilot 162 main 70 leak and i dont remember the other one. Has full fmf exhaust with mega bomb header and 4.1 pipe motor is stock. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Luke
  9. Its a 03 crf450 . I can't get my intake boot back on my carb for the life of me after taking the carb out and cleaning it. Im getting so worked up over this damn thing. Anyone ever have this problem before.
  10. I have a 1995 yz125 2t and the thing runs pretty good, well at least it seems to have no issues but it does not need the choke to start the bike. I changed the main, idle, and needle jets all to factory specs for my temperature and altitude. The bike will start first kick when 100% cold and will start first kick when warm but it just does not need the choke. So I'm wondering if I'm hindering my bikes performance in a way because it does not need the choke. Suggestions?
  11. Im wondering if valve clearance will generally tighten or loosen over time? My bike has been hard to start lately, and running weird when warming up. Yesterday i couldnt even get the thing started and ive never not been able to start my bike. I figured maybe my valves need to be shimmed. I bought the bike 2 years ago and have never shimmed the valves so maybe its time i thought. So i got the bike into the garage took the valve cover off, set it to TDC and checked my clearances using the same feeler gauges i used when i put a top end in the bike last year. The exhaust valves seem to have stayed about the same, but my intake valves are too tight for me to fit my feeler gauge into now. Im just wondering if this is normal, i would assume over time valves would get looser as opposed to tighter, but you never know so i thought id ask you all.

  13. So i have a 2017 kx250f and i'm looking into a loudmouth intake kit. I hate the stock kawasaki airbox its such a pain in the ass to install and replace filters. Anyone have any different intake suggestions before i pull the trigger on a loudmouth?
  14. I just bought a 2004 ktm 125sx and it is a very clean bike. I have ridden it only a few times and i noticed a weird studder or kind of bog when in mid to high rpms and the bike cuts out for a second and then cuts back in a split second. I cant figure out what it is doing this. I keep air filter clean, new spark plug, good gas. I use an NGK BR9es, the manual says to use NGk Br9evx. i have read it could be powervalve, jetting, maybe silencer packing, im not sure. please ask any questions, i really want to figure this out. thanks

  16. Hopefully I will not have to make any more posts after this but I have questions about the 04 wr snorkel. Before it's suggested yes I did read the free mod guide on super Moto junkie and he shows the snorkel being removed but does not explain or show how. I tried removing the two bolts on top and the battery but it still doesn't even budge after that, is it molded in place? Also what is deemed as a clean or dirty air filter? I don't know what is supposed to be normal, upon looking at mine there was a good amount of thick black grease that I wiped out so I have no idea how long this one has been used or last cleaned. I bought a no toil filter to replace the current one since I just did a rebuild and why not have a clean one in there. But if someone can enlighten me on details it would be much appreciated.
  17. Hey guys, I'm wondering about these Carburetor Intake Boot Nets. Why manufactures put those? Did some googling I couldn't find any information about it. I would love to get a nice explanation of this mysterious item. BTW my motorcycle is Suzuki DR250R 1998. It also has carb intake boot net ?
  18. Hey guys so i have a pretty interesting scenario going on here. I got a used kx65 on craigslist that needed the bottom end rebuilt, couldn't really hear it run because the knock from the crank and bearings was so bad, so i replaced the crank, bearings, seals, and gaskets. (In my college apartment living room) Bike started in a few kicks! Here is where it gets interesting It starts up totally fine but anything past idle, it really spits and sputters, and past half throttle it wants to cut it out completely. I tried cleaning the carb once, checking the plug and it looks to be burning fine, adjusting the clip position on the needle jet up and down both ways, new gas. Could it be possible the top end would cause that? I did put the old piston in it but it didnt have much sign of wear, but I could be way off. Or is there some stuff I should try first again? Cleaning the carb again? Im open to any and all suggestions! Not willing to give up now, its so close to being done! I have rebuilt quite a few bikes now, 4 and 2 stroke so i have a decent amount of fix it know how, just really stumped on this.
  19. I just sealed up my exhaust today with silicon sealant. However, when I turn the engine over slowly and hit the compression stroke (mid part of the kickstart cycle) I hear a quick hiss noise. It sounds like air being released somewhere. Is this the carburetor pumping air into the motor or do I have an air leak somewhere? It's really confusing and worrying me. It only happens while the exhaust is plugged. P.S I can't hear it when the bike is running it only occurs at this point while turning the bike over.

  21. i have a 1978 dt175 I have been rebuilding it for the past few months now I have one last issue air is coming out of the air intake I just bought new reed valve assembly put in new crank seals and cleaned exhaust pipes I cant find the problem..... does anyone have any advice or know maybe what the problem is?
  22. We bought my 8-year-old son an '03 XR80R for Easter, and I've been working to get it dialed in. So far I've acquired an XR100 carb and air boot, and I ordered a Power Ring from Engines Only for the exhaust (I like the idea of this because I can tune the exhaust pressure by adding/removing plates to match the XR100 carb). I'm not sure how best to port the intake, I can port the XR80 intake pipe (the little flexible one) to match the XR100 carb, but that leaves very little material to mate with the seal. However, I don't really want to pull the head just to port the intake on the XR80 head, so I'm kind of in a dilemma here. For those that have upgraded an XR80 to an XR100 carb, how did you do the intake porting?
