  1. OK here goes... Picked up an 04 200 EXC few months back, needed some work to say the least, wont go into detail of all the things i've fixed on the bike just the current and most present issue I cant seem to fix... it is smoking IE blue smoke/lots of splooge to the point that at the end of a few hour's ride, it's out the tail pipe, running down the back and dripping onto the swing arm/rear break caliper and blue smoking quite a bit. When I first got it, it smoked more and smelled like shit. So first things first went to the carb, I live on the Oregon coast (elevation/temp reference) it's old dirty/stained but inside looks good, came with jetting pilot-45, main-178 needle: no idea what brand guessing stock in the 3rd clip, adjusted the float height due to it leaking gas when bike was upright no tilt with the gas on, Bought JD jet kit and running pilot-45, Main-185 and Needle is blue 3rd clip (JD's recommend specs for my bike @ my attitude). I have also replaced my Inner crankcase seal twice (First time I thought I messed up the O-ring so redid to make sure). I've rebuilt the top end/new piston (same thing) cleaned the PV, NOTE HERE that the PV has some issues, it seems to work fine but the screw that goes on top of the cylinder, down into the PV/flap would not come out preventing me from removing the flap to clean it, however it move's/ function's correctly, and has minimum clearance on both sides. One of the PV cover bolts that also works at the exhaust spring holder, was over torqued at some point (impact driver prob), or a result in a hard impact, the hole the bolt goes into is flailed/jared open a bit, not bad, not in the way of any function/ PV Gearing/hinge, it is not needed for that area to be air tight as their is also a breather that goes out of the PV so will not result in an "air leak" or loss in Top end PSI.... anyway... it's still smoking.... quite a bit.. now the bike itself rides fine I feel, the carb does puke gas when tilted over slightly/ hard to start (kick start) after flooded (like all bikes tho) I don't have any stalling/low idle issues outside of user error on clutch control. Honestly outside of it smoking as much as it does I would think nothing is wrong with it.. I have also tried raising the needle Clip to 2nd clip and it changed nothing at all, not even feel of the bike/response and have a new Spark plug I have yet to put on the bike. I have also "compromised" the crankcase Gasket (new one in the mail) while I was putting the Crankcase back on but that should do nothing with the exhaust just a little gear oil leak not relevant but throwing it out there. So I am at a loss... I've been toying with the idea of getting a Lectron carb... However... would hate to drop $400~$500 and the issue still persist, if it's a jetting/carb/float issue that would fix it and improve MPH/fuel consumption Or something with the PV? but I don't see the PV causing that much smoke/sploogee... I've ridden the bike normally/hard and nothing's happened but I don't want to keep pushing it and possibly clip the bike. Any ideas? "Oh help me 2 stroke community you're my only hope"
  2. Okay so I've recently rebuilt my 2006 drz400s I've got an E cylinder head and cams, a high flow air filter and a full stainless exaughst. I've also taken the solenoid off the bottom of the carb and removed the pair valve. I have a jd jet kit with the 160 main jet. And the blue needle with the clip in the 3rd spot from the top (I live in London, so cool and low altitude). And I have to fuel screw 2 1/2 turns out. My issue is that when I shut the throttle the revs stay high. Sometimes they drop after 10 seconds or so but sometimes stay high. I know it's not sticky cables as it still happens with them disconnected and I know I don't have a vacume leak as I've already checked the boots. I presume this is a lean mixture issue, I've tried turning the mixture screw out but it made no difference. What are my options?
  3. I am stumped on what to do and looking for guidance. i have a 2018 Drz400sm. put it through the first service then went through with the 3x3 mod with JD jet and full FMF pipes. followed everything the jet kit said and tuned for sea level with blue needle in 3rd position 160 main and 25 pilot and fuel screw 2 1/2 turns out. Took the bike for a spin and it ran like crap. Idle is fine . But the bike just has no power anywhere and feels like a 50cc machine. Top speed was 95kmph on the road. So following this a took the carb apart and tried more jetting combos thinking it was just running lean. No success. Still slow with no response. I put the bike back to complete stock jets and exhaust and taped over the 3x3 hole to replicate the snorkel back in. And even then it ran the exact same no power and weak response. So currently the bike is sitting back at full fmf exhaust , blue needle in 4th position, 160 main 25 pilot and 2 1/2 turns out with 3x3 airbox standard air filter. All to which it runs slow like the throttle doesn't work but every now and then it surges in power for a second and dies away. i looked into the TPS ( throttle control sensor) and it is running the correct resistance of 5 at closed throttle and 3.9 open. What could be the problem? help would be much appreciated.
  4. Hey guys, looking for some advice on on getting my tc250 going. Any input is appreciated as I’m beginning to run out of ideas. long story but I want to give as much detail as possible. 2014 tc 250 3rd owner was told bike had around 10-20 hrs. All original plastic and tires. Cases barely has any rubbing. I put another 60 hrs on the bike all woods riding and started encountering fouled spark plugs. Adjusted the needle position to lean it out and that solved my issues last summer. Bike sat over winter and was only started once a month but would start normal. I added an fmf shorty slip on and the bike continuted to run well if not better than stock. Then I added a steahly flywheel weight. Rode the bike about 2 hrs then could not get bike to start back up. Tried to bump start bike a few times with no luck. After kicking a few more times I got the bike to start but it was bogged and unresponsive when turning the throttle. Played with air mix and idle screws but had no luck so I shut off the bike for the day and couldn’t start it again. I have fresh gas and 60:1 ratio motorex. I checked the flywheel weight and it looks good and in position with no rubbing on the cover. I removed the stock washer as instructions stated and torqued to spec. It appears the flywheel is still passing the sensor at top dead center also. I thought I had carb issues again so I bought a jd jet kit and carb rebuild. Replaced jets float needle and gaskets. set air fuel mix to 1-1/4 turn out as jd instructed. Bike still doesn’t start. I keep trying to kick and adjust air mix for a few hours on every setting but no luck. Also checked the reeds and they looked ok too. I noticed my map selector switch wire ripped and became disconnected. From my research online the bike should still run but be in map 2. By looking at the map switch and wiring I would agree that’s how it appears. To work but correct me if I’m wrong on this. Kill switch looks to be operating normal. Air filter has 2-4 hrs on it. I checked spark plug and it’s making spark. Compression at 150psi. I took the header pipe off to look at the side of the piston. Some light scoring but overall looks ok still. Top of piston looks very black with a lot of carbon buildup. Can carbon buildup affect starting? Any input is appreciated and I’ll update as I try other ideas. thank you!! -LL
  5. Hello DRZ community. I need help with my JD jetting Setup here in Switzerland. The bike is a 2007 drz 400 SM. The exhaust is a slip on G.P.R. Satinox with a silencer/muffler in it. Right now I ran the following setup: Pilot:25 Needle: Blue 4th clip Main Jet: 160 Fuel mixture screw: 2.5 turns out I'm around 1600ft (500m) above sea level. Temperature is around 71f (22 Celsius) The bike won't start unless I use the throttle a little. The power isn't that great either. I have problems getting into wheelies using the second gear. Your help is really appreciated!
  6. Changing from a stock compression head running pump gas (93octaine) to a high compression (race gas) on a Yz144. I run 32 to 1 mix with Maxima Castor927. Riding single track in the woods. RPMs frequently hit 10k-12k (sometimes higher 😬) but never sustained for long periods of time - usually for 5 - 15 seconds before some backing off. To put it this way I love the sound of a small bore screaming over a 250cc with less scream. Adds to my experience! Stock compression/pump gas set up: Currently running a JD Jetting kit and a 430 main jet. I’m always a little rich but never have fouled a plug. I’ve run a 420 when first Jetting the change to a 144. The plug was a little to white for me. Last ride in cooler temp (50 degree) the plug had no carbon or real color and was wet looking which I assume was an indicator of being pretty rich. New head and 105-110 octain: Im assuming I will be too rich for new setup. Not sure I will need to change pilot but I plan to lean needle 1/2 groove and start from there. Questions: How mich Jetting change should I expect? Anyone running a 144 kit with a 420 main? Run 927 Castor because it was recommended and never changed. But should I be open to another premix for my type of riding? sorry to ramble but there’s a lot to consider and those questions can be considered loaded.
